Man Buys PS4 Off Craigslist And Ends Up With A Box Of Towels

Man Buys PS4 Off Craigslist And Ends Up With A Box Of Towels

Microsoft and Sony both launched their new game consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, in November. Most retailers immediately sold out of stock which meant that those customers who weren’t able to get their pre-orders in had to wait until the consoles were back in stock. Both companies are working hard to ensure that there’s enough stock to go around particularly during the time when Christmas shopping picks up. A man in Colorado Springs wanted to buy a PS4 for his son as a Christmas present so he found a seller on Craigslist, met him and paid him an undisclosed amount. There was no console in the box, it was stuffed full of towels.

People are usually cautious about deals that originate on Craigslist, it is very easy to get scammed or worse, even robbed or physically hurt when you go to meet the other party. The father met with the ad’s poster in the lobby of a motel and handed over the money, the police hasn’t disclosed how much he was going to pay for the console. After handing over the money, he checked the box only to find towels inside. By then the other person ran to a getaway car already waiting in the parking lot and fled. The victim essentially spent several hundred dollars on towels that cost much less. There’s a lesson to be learnt here, always check the goods before you hand over the money and try your best to stick with official retailers when possible.

Lenovo Gearing Up To Sell Smartphones In Germany Next Year

Lenovo Gearing Up To Sell Smartphones In Germany Next Year

Chinese manufacturer Lenovo is quite popular in its home country and even the entire region, despite the fact that  the company’s smartphones aren’t that popular in the West. Lenovo seeks to further expand its smartphone presence in Europe by bringing its smartphones to Europe’s largest economy, Germany, next year. Without giving a concrete timeframe, head of Lenovo’s operations in Germany confirmed to the Handelsblatt newspaper that smartphones sales are scheduled “during the next business year.” However, to do so, the company has to first set up a distribution network in the country.

Lenovo already sells its notebooks and computers in Germany, but it has to build up a distribution network and bring operators on board before it can start selling its smartphones in the country. The expansion into Germany might put some green on the company’s balance sheets, which have been strong in recent quarters. Lenovo’s Q2 results saw profits rise 36 percent to $220 milllion and sales of mobile devices doubling from the same time last year. With an year-on-year shipment growth of 78 percent, Lenovo becomes the third largest smartphone vendor in the world. The company hasn’t revealed as yet in which other major European markets it is likely to expand into, particularly in 2014.

Nexus 10 2013 Release Expected On Cyber Monday

Nexus 10 2013 Release Expected On Cyber Monday

So far there has been no official confirmation of when Nexus 10 2013 release is going to take place. The current Nexus 10 went out of stock on the Google Play Store back in October and it has not been restocked since then. This led to increased speculation that a successor is going to be announced soon, but so far nothing has been said about the next generation Nexus 10. As per the latest rumors circulating the internet, it is likely that Google might announce the tablet on Cyber Monday, which is tomorrow. Since there is no official confirmation, its best to take this rumor with a grain of salt.

Apparently Google is going to make the announcement on Cyber Monday because its hardware partner might be facing difficulties in production and to avoid the Black Friday and Thanksgiving shopping frenzy, the company has decided to make the announcement after the holiday weekend has passed. Previous rumors have suggested that perhaps ASUS has manufactured the Nexus 10, while it has also been rumored that Samsung might be manufacturing the Nexus 10 2013. Nothing is known for sure at this point in time. Though it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Google just announced the tablet through an official blog post, it did so for the Nexus 5 even when it was being speculated that Google will host a formal launch event for its next generation Nexus smartphone.

Indianapolis GameStop Robbers Take PS4s After Demanding All Xbox One Units

Indianapolis GameStop Robbers Take PS4s After Demanding All Xbox One Units

You have diehard fans on either side of the PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One debate. They can keep throwing arguments back and forth and the debate would never end. Both consoles have performed well in the market ever since they have been released, and both companies are working hard to replenish stock at retailers so that there is enough to go around when the holiday season arrives. A local GameStop was robbed in Indianapolis recently, and the robbers specifically asked for all Xbox One units that the store had. Since that particular store was sold out of Microsoft’s latest console, the two suspects settled for the second best option, in their opinion, the Sony PlayStation 4.

Two store workers present at that GameStop location were forced into a back room, according to the police report, and made to lay down as the suspects tried to zip tie the workers. The robbers were able to steal nine PS4 units valued at $3,600 and they also ripped a surveillance camera off the wall in the process. Police is investigating the robbery and it is entirely unclear why the robbers were specifically interested in Xbox One only. Perhaps they really were diehard fans of Microsoft’s latest gaming machine.

Chrome Might Let Users Try Apps Without Having To Install Them

Chrome Might Let Users Try Apps Without Having To Install Them

Google obviously wants Chrome web apps to do better, and it has made a number of changes recently which are geared towards increasing usage of such apps. The Chrome browser received in-app payments support, an app launcher as well as rich notifications and soon the browser might get another feature which would allow users to try Chrome web apps without needing to install them. The Chromium team has been working on “ephemeral” apps, basically apps that can be launched by just clicking on a hyperlink.

The way this feature would work is that the Chrome Web Store results will include a “Launch” button, clicking on which would launch said app without having to install it in the Chrome web browser. A launch prompt will be displayed if the app has any permission warnings, and if it does not, then the app would launch immediately. The links for ephemeral apps will only be shown on Google search results page, and users will be able to launch apps by just clicking on the hyperlinks. New features are initially tested out in the Chromium open source web browser project before they are rolled out in a stable Chrome build, and while its possible that the feature might never make the cut, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if it ultimately does.

    LEGO Lawnmower Mows My Mind

Despite the fact that I live in the city and have a really tiny lawn, I’m still really bad about mowing my lawn regularly. I think I’d rather stay inside and build things out of LEGO. But maybe if I had a LEGO lawnmower, I could kill two birds with one stone.

    lego lawnmower 1 620x516magnify

LEGO artist Sean Kenney has already beat me to the punch, having built this amazing lawnmower out of bricks. The full-scale mower was built using 13,704 individual LEGO bricks, and took Kenney and his assistants over 200 hours to design and build.

The mower was built for Kenney’s traveling LEGO exhibition Nature Connects, which is touring the U.S. through 2016. It’s currently on exhibit at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC through January 5, 2014, among many other amazing LEGO creations.

Unfortunately, the LEGO lawnmower isn’t functional, but that’s okay with me. I’d be happy to just sit and stare at it instead of cutting the grass anyhow.
