Paramount To Start Distributing Their Movies In Digital Format In The US

Paramount To Start Distributing Their Movies In Digital Format In The USFor decades, the film industry has relied on the 35mm film to capture and distribute their movies to cinemas around the world. However it looks like that will soon change as reports have surfaced, claiming that Paramount could be the first major studio to send their major movies to American theaters in digital format, and that future releases by the studio will all be in digital. While the digital format has been around for a while now, many studios have been hesitant to make the switch to the format completely as the film format is still a popular choice amongst film purists, and also the fact that not all theaters have digital equipment, so by disregarding some theaters, studios could stand to lose a fair amount of money.

The semi-good news is that Paramount will continue producing film but they will be sent to other parts of the world, such as Latin America and other markets where most theaters rely on film to screen their movies. It is expected that eventually studios will make the switch to digital as it is clearly a cheaper alternative compared to film, where a disc could cost less than $100 compared to $2,000 for film prints. As it stands, about 8% of US theaters do not have the necessary equipment to show digital films, meaning that these theaters will be forced to upgrade or risk closure.

Microsoft Denies Rumors Of A Halo Movie

Microsoft Denies Rumors Of A Halo MovieBack in 2011, we heard reports that Microsoft could be planning a Halo movie. Given the popularity of the franchise and how sci-fi flicks have been well-established and received, it seemed like a good idea. Unfortunately the movie never surfaced. Recently there have been rumors that the project could have been revived where a live-action movie was planned with director Ridley Scott at the helm. If you were excited at the idea, we’re sorry to have to burst your bubble because it turns out that those rumors just aren’t true. According to a statement released to Eurogamer, Microsoft claims that there are no plans for a Halo motion pictured at this time.

On one hand it is disappointing news for gamers and fans of the franchise, but at the same time with a Halo-based television series in the works, we doubt Microsoft will want to spend additional time and resources on a movie at the same time. That and the fact that we have Halo 5 to look forward to this year means that Microsoft would have bitten off more than they can chew. In any case hopefully we will be blessed with a Halo movie in the future, but for now we guess fans and gamers will have to “make do” with a television series and new game.

Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb Wants The Online Hate Between Both Consoles To End

Larry Major Nelson Hyrb Wants The Online Hate Between Both Consoles To EndSony PlayStation 4 or Microsoft Xbox One? We’re sure both platforms have their pros and cons that hardcore fans can spend days arguing over, but does it really matter? To a certain extent it does matter because gamers have to choose between platforms due to each platform offering different games and different exclusives, such as God of War for Sony, Halo for Microsoft, and the Mario franchise for Nintendo, so yes, to a certain point it matters which platform gamers choose. However despite these differences, Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb stated that the online hate from all camps needs to go away. (more…)

Nintendo Admits They Misread The Market

Nintendo Admits They Misread The MarketNintendo is definitely not in a good place right now. Despite the company’s best intentions, they have recently been forced to slash their sales estimate of the Wii U by a whopping 70%. This is not only a bad sign for Nintendo, but their investors as well who might be alarmed by this drastic move. In light of this, Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata was expected to resign, but revealed that he would not be doing so. Instead he elaborated on the issue and admitted that when it came to the Wii U, Nintendo had misread the market and because of that, failed to issue appropriate instructions on how to handle the “new” market. Iwata has since proposed to to do something that will surprise Nintendo’s customers, although what exactly that entails remains to be seen.

Iwata did state that the company was looking at a new business structure and that the company will most likely be discussing their options and a new strategy at their strategy briefing on the 30th of January. Earlier we reported that Iwata said that Nintendo would be studying mobile devices, although we’re not sure if this will result in Nintendo actually releasing games for mobile devices, something which the company has refused to do for the longest time ever. What do you guys think? What do you think Nintendo needs to do to remain relevant in today’s gaming scene? No doubt Nintendo’s first-party titles are immensely fun, but will they be enough to make customers purchase an entire system for it?

Fan Details Alternative Mass Effect 3 Ending In 500 Page Document

Fan Details Alternative Mass Effect 3 Ending In 500 Page DocumentThe Mass Effect franchise is a pretty popular one, although the original ending of Mass Effect 3 left much to be desired, in a way almost sullying the Mass Effect franchise especially given that Mass Effect 3 was the end of the game’s trilogy. However it seems that despite BioWare’s attempt at offering a “better” ending for gamers, there are still some who think that the ending could have been much better. There are probably fans out there who have created fan fiction that offered alternative endings, although we have yet to come across anything as detailed as Gerry Pugliese’s own alternative ending. The Walking Dead Game Used To Teach Ethics In A High School In Norway

If you have ever watched The Walking Dead or played Telltale’s version of the game, you know that there are times when tough decisions have to be made for the greater good. Given that we aren’t in those situations ourselves, it’s easy to judge and say that a character should have done this, should not have done that, and so on. Well apparently the ethical conundrum is prevalent enough in the game where it is actually being used to teach a class on ethics in a high school in Norway.

Like we said since we aren’t in a zombie apocalypse situation (yet), it’s hard to imagine how difficult it will be to make an ethical decision, even though it might seem wrong on the surface, but the students who participated in the game and played it in class for two weeks admittedly that they came across ethical dilemmas they would not have thought about otherwise. Polls are then taken when decisions are made (anonymously) to see which choices are the most popular, and then discuss the results. Ultimately students claimed that this method allowed them to better engage and remember the different ethical models.

Norwegian news outlet, NRK.no, recorded a segment of students participating in the class, a video which has since gone online with subtitles that you can check out in the video above. What do you guys think of this teaching model? Pretty cool, huh?
