Nokia Lumia 1520 Mini/1520 V Rumored To Be In The Works

Nokia Lumia 1520 Mini/1520 V Rumored To Be In The WorksNokia is not necessarily a company that deals with “mini” versions of their phones. Those mini variants are usually best left to Samsung and Sony who have released such devices in the past, but it seems that Nokia could be working on a mini version of one of its phones, at least that’s according to the rumors. According to reports out of China, it seems that Nokia is rumored to be working on a Lumia 1520 mini, or Lumia 1520 V which is its alleged moniker. It will be based on the Lumia 1520 but will sport different specs, which in all honesty sounds a bit like the rumored Nokia Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon for Verizon.

So what sort of specs are we looking at? Well for starters it is rumored to sport a 4.3” display but interestingly enough, Nokia will be maintaining the Full HD 1920×1080 display, meaning that in terms of sharpness, the Lumia 1520 V will be a force to be reckoned with. It is also rumored to feature 2GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, and come with a 14MP PureView camera, and a 3,000mAh battery to top it off. Based on these specs it does sound a bit like the Lumia Icon for Verizon, just with a much smaller display. The Lumia 1520 V is rumored for a launch after Windows Phone 8.1 is released in April. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think?

6tindr Pulled From Windows Phone Store As Per Tinder’s Request

6tindr Pulled From Windows Phone Store As Per Tinders RequestThe other day we reported that 6tindr, the unofficial Tinder app for Windows Phone, had been released. The app was developed by Rudy Huyn, a developer well-known in the Windows Phone circles for creating and releasing unofficial apps for the Windows Phone platform, apps that the original developers might have forgotten or not bothered to release for Windows Phone. In any case it looks like Tinder is not too happy about Huyn’s activities and have since requested the app to be removed from the Windows Phone store after complaining to Microsoft about it. Granted that 6tindr is based on Tinder, we guess the developers aren’t too thrilled about unofficial versions which could have the potential to tarnish their reputation.

However according to Huyn who wrote a short letter to Tinder, “If you want me to remove 6tindr from the Windows Phone Store I will respect your wishes, however I appeal to you that we work together so we can provide your new Windows Phone users – who are clearly passionate about using your service – with an awesome Tinder experience. I request that you please allow me the pleasure of helping you grow the popularity of Tinder within the Windows Phone community. I feel that together we can do great things for Windows Phone users, and I’d love to assist in any way possible to help bring an official Tinder app to Windows Phone.” Fair enough, don’t you guys think?

Verizon’s Lumia Icon Goes On Sale In China

Verizons Lumia Icon Goes On Sale In ChinaThe Nokia Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon is very real. We’ve seen the device pop up on Verizon’s website and last we heard, it was rumored for a 16th of January release, but safe to say that did not happen. We’re not sure why Verizon is waiting around to announce the handset, let alone release it. Could it be that they are waiting to make an announcement at MWC 2014? Well whatever the case is, it seems that the Lumia Icon has managed to traverse the seas/skies and make its way into China where it is being sold, and interestingly and bizarrely enough, it looks like the model sold in China is actually Verizon’s model and boots up with Verizon’s logo (pictured above).

This seems to suggest that Verizon might have stock of the Lumia Icon but might be simply sitting on it for whatever reasons. The listing in China has given it a price tag of $630, which we’re not sure if it could be reflective of Verizon’s own pricing. For those hearing about the Lumia Icon for the first time, it is basically a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. Instead of sporting a large 6” display, the Lumia Icon is said to sport a smaller and more manageable 5” display, and for the most part will retain the same hardware specs as the Lumia 1520. In any case we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information regarding the Lumia Icon’s availability, so check back with us at a later date for the details.

Huawei tweaks Ascend P6 chipset, tacks on an ‘S’ for good measure

HeatTrak Snow and Ice Heated Stair Mat makes winter seem a little warmer

HeatTrak Snow and Ice Heated Stair Mat
We’ve all had the pleasure of slipping and falling on our bums at least once or twice during the cold months. You can’t stop the snow and ice from coming, but you can find ways to make it less of a crap shoot to live through. We salt our driveways, bundle up in extra layers, and shovel snow, but when you get to the front steps, they’re laden with ice.

If you want to avoid this deathtrap that seems like the final stretch home, you’ll need something more than a bit of salt. The HeatTrak Snow and Ice Heated Stair Mat is so ingenious that I wish I’d thought of it. They run off of electricity, and are made of reinforced SBR rubber, which is about as hearty as the rubber on your tires. That means they can withstand whatever the weather may be.

You don’t have to worry about installation, as you only need to set them down and plug them in. They come with a six foot power cord, and each mat is connected by a cable. They’re 10×30”, and can be daisy-chained together. One will cost you around $90, but it will be more than that with the constant addition to your electricity bill. You’ll also need to be wary of someone fancying them and carrying them off as they’re not exactly hard to move around. While they are an excellent idea, it’s one that might not be useful enough to justify the cost.

Man pulls real, cute kitten out of computer

The kitten is about to come alive.

    (Credit: Digg/LiveLeak)

When you wake up on a Sunday morning to messages from readers that say: “You have to see this,” there are a few potential reactions.

One: “Oh, someone’s trying to get to write about their new, very slightly useless gizmo.”

    Two: “Spam.”

Three: “This video could actually be worth seeing.”

Grumpily clicking on “play” on this video posted to Digg, but originally to LiveLeak (and who knows where before that), I still feared the worst. It was entitled: “How to Pull a Live Cat Out of a Laptop.”

What ensued were 7 minutes of really quite captivating video editing, even if the live cat appeared to emerge from a desktop screen, rather than a laptop.

Amazon to ship things before you’ve even thought of buying them?

    He cares. He really cares.

    (Credit: Dan Farber/CNET)

Whenever I think of the predominant sound emerging from Amazon, I decide it has to be a snigger.

First, the company intimated that it will soon be delivering your intellectual and household items by drone.

Now it’s decided it’s become so familiar with your predilections that it’s going to ship the things you want to buy before you’ve even thought of buying them.

Somewhere in the Bay Area, executives at Google ululated with envy.

As TechCrunch reports, Amazon has filed a patent called “Method and System For Anticipatory Package Shipping.

The essence is this: Amazon believes it has a good idea which item of clothing, electronics or beauty product you will covet nex… [Read more]

    Sen.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D) and Rep. Mike Rogers (R) were on Meet the Press this morning with explosive allegations: Edward Snowden may have been working with Russian spy agencies before leaving the US with about 1.7 million documents that revealed NSA surveillance tactics. The only catch? They presented no real evidence to back up their claims.
