Fitbit Force Fitness Bands Being Recalled

Fitbit Force Fitness Bands Being RecalledEarlier this year we reported that there were a handful of Fitbit users who were reporting skin irritations after a period of using their Fitbit fitness tracking wristbands. These skin irritations included blisters and peeling skin, and while there could be a number of factors that contributed to these irritations, it was found that despite wiping down the device, those irritations kept reappearing. Most noticeably it was under the portion of the device where the sensors, battery, display, and charging ports are found. At that time Fitbit offered customers either a refund or an exchange of the product, but now it looks like Fitbit has decided to recall the fitness band entirely.

In a recent post by the company’s CEO, James Park, “Recently, some Force users have reported skin irritation. While only 1.7% of Force users have reported any type of skin irritation, we care about every one of our customers. On behalf of the entire Fitbit team, I want to apologize to anyone affected.” He also adds that the company had done additional testing of their own and found that while there was nothing wrong, they have decided to perform a voluntary recall anyway. “We have stopped selling Force and have decided to conduct a voluntary recall. We are offering a refund directly to consumers for full retail price.” For those who have been affected or who would prefer to avoid risking it, you can head on over to Fitbit’s website for the details.

If I have to look at one more half-melted slushy snowdrift, I’m going to junkpunch the nearest passerby. Luckily, there are things like amazing honeycomb sculptures and insane light installations to bring everyone off the ledge that winter has put them on. Enjoy a little reprieve in the form of the most beautiful items we posted this week.

Celebrities looked like they time traveled in these 1860's photographs

Whenever you look at vintage photographs taken using old methods, there’s always a certain haunting quality about them. The life captured is so still, the eyes always seem so dark. It’s almost joyless. Photographer Victoria Will wanted to see how old photographs would translate with modern people so she used an 1860’s era method of photography called tintype to capture celebrities today. It’s fantastic.

Buy an abandoned amusement park on eBay

Discarded dinosaur statues littering Spreepark make the place feel more like "Land of the Lost" than Euro Disney.

Ride a rickety roller coaster without standing in line. Stay on the Ferris wheel as long as you darn want. Woo someone special with a romantic row around a swamp.

It will only cost you 1.62 million euros ($2.2 million) to make an abandoned Berlin amusement park all yours. Yep, Spreepark is now for sale on eBay.

Granted, it’s been closed for more than a decade ever since its former manager used “The Flying Carpet” ride equipment to smuggle cocaine in and out of Germany. And the place needs a bit of vacuuming and dusting. But now new owners can breathe life back into it.

The only things that stand in line at Spreepark these days are the dead trees.

Lie Detector Tool Will Weed Out Rumors On Social Media

Lie Detector Tool Will Weed Out Rumors On Social MediaSocial media is a great place to get news and updates from around the world. It can be used to spread information about a missing child, a missing person, a missing dog, warning about accidents or traffic jams, but at the same time with great power comes great responsibility. Cheesy, I know, but there are times when one must decide if a particular piece of news is the truth or a rumor as irresponsible sharing can sometimes lead to the false dissemination of information. Well the good news is that soon you might not have to figure it out for yourself, thanks to a new tool that is being built that will reportedly be able to verify online rumors from social media sources.

This tool is being built by researchers at the University of Sheffield and according to Dr Kalina Bontcheva, the leader researcher, “Social networks also provide useful information. The problem is that it all happens so fast and we can’t quickly sort truth from lies. This makes it difficult to respond to rumours, for example, for the emergency services to quash a lie in order to keep a situation calm,” which is why this lie detector tool is being built. The tool will be able to analyze text and also examine social media accounts have been created simply with the purpose of spreading lies and rumors. Unfortunately this lie detector will not be made available anytime soon as the project will run for three years before a customized tool will be made available for more commercial use.

LG G2 With KitKat Compared Against G2 With Jelly Bean

We’re sure there are many LG G2 users out there who can’t wait to get their hands on the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Of course for those living in the US, carrier approval might cause it to be delayed a little bit longer when everyone else around the world might have already received their updates, but good things come to those who wait, right? Well in a recent video posted by LG, it certainly seems to mean that as the South Korean tech company has posted a video in which they compare two LG G2 handsets side-by-side. One of them is running Android Jelly Bean, while the other is running on Android KitKat.

The video puts both devices through a speed test, such as web browsing and gallery performance, showing that the device running on KitKat is faster, thus making the wait all that more excruciating!  The LG G2 is fast as it is but we guess make it smoother and faster in a software update is always welcome, right? That being said, the video’s description has also suggested that the update will be making its way in the middle of March for G2 owners in the UK. We’re not sure what this means for everyone else around the world, but presumably we can expect our updates around the same time as well, or at least that’s what we hope. If you have a few minutes to spare, check out the comparison in the video above.
