Xiaomi Redmi Note Sells 100,000 Units In 34 Minutes

Xiaomi Redmi Note Sells 100,000 Units In 34 MinutesA little over a week ago, Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled their latest handset in the form of the Xiaomi Redmi Note. The handset will be targeting the Asian market first but according to Xiaomi, they have plans on expanding beyond China. The handset was also priced at around $129 which is why we guess it is not that surprising to hear that Xiaomi might have another hit on their hands again.

According to reports, Xiaomi has managed to sell 100,000 units of the Redmi Note in just 34 minutes. However when compared to Xiaomi’s previous efforts, like the Xiaomi Mi3 which sold 100,000 units in a little over a minute, it seems like Xiaomi could be losing their touch, but then again perhaps we’re just nitpicking as 100,000 units in half an hour is still pretty damn impressive. LG G2 Camera Mod Brings 4K Video Recording To The Phone

If there was one thing we were surprised to find out about the LG G2 was its camera. LG phones haven’t exactly been known for their cameras (not that they’re bad, it’s just not a feature LG is known for), the LG G2’s camera proved to be pretty good. In fact its low-light performance was surprisingly decent, outshining phones like the iPhone.

Now the good news is that if you thought that the LG G2 camera could do with some improvement, you’re in luck because thanks to a camera mod, you won’t have to hope and wait for the LG G3 to bring those improvements that you have been asking for. (more…)

Website Shames Drivers Who Text While Driving

Website Shames Drivers Who Text While DrivingTexting while driving is a big no-no and we’re sure that despite most of us agreeing with that statement, there are still plenty of us who are guilty of doing so. There have been many initiatives in the past attempting to stop texting while driving, but a new initiative hopes to put an end to that nasty habit by shaming drivers into stopping.

This is according to a website called TWITspotting which basically posts photos taken by others of people who are texting behind the wheel. Based on the angles that most of the photos are taken, it would appear that the people taking the photos appear on the bus, so we guess for the most part the photographer isn’t being a hypocrite. Changing Fonts Could Save The Government A Lot Of Money

By now most of us have realized that different fonts come in different sizes and thickness. For example Arial Bold is naturally a lot thicker compared to Arial, and what this means is that the amount of ink required to print an entire page written in Arial Bold would naturally be more, compared to using fonts that are “thinner”.

This is the realization that a 14-year, Suvir Mirchandani, stumbled upon when tasked with trying to save money for his school district. He compared a group of fonts, printed them, weighed them, and came to the startling discovery that if the Garamond font were to be used, it could potentially save his school district $21,000 a year in ink. Tesla Vehicles Can Be Hacked To Unlock The Car Remotely

Tesla Vehicles Can Be Hacked To Unlock The Car RemotelyWhile connected cars with more digital components is inevitable, what this means is that it could open up more cars to hackers who could find a way to take control of your car or access it remotely. Apparently Tesla’s electric vehicles exhibit such vulnerabilities, according to Nitesh Dhanjani, a corporate security consultant and an owner of a Tesla vehicle himself.

He revealed the flaw during a conference in Singapore after claiming to have conducted a study himself. According to his findings, hackers could remotely unlock the car via a command transmitted over the internet. This is done by hacking the password that Tesla owners use to setup their account which can also be used to unlock the car. (more…)

Windows-Based Tablets Reportedly Rising In Demand In Japan And Korea

Windows Based Tablets Reportedly Rising In Demand In Japan And KoreaWhen most people think of tablets, there is a good chance that their minds run to iOS or Android. This is understandable as both Apple and Android OEMs have put out pretty good tablets in the past, thus overshadowing Microsoft’s efforts at attempting to break into the tablet market with their own offerings as well.

However it seems that at least over in Japan and Korea, the demand for Windows-based tablets is on the rise, at least according to a recent report from DigiTimes that claims that vendors based in Korea and Japan have recently upped their order for Windows-based tablets. (more…)
