Polanter Vertical Pole Planter helps those who weren’t born with a green thumb

    Polanter Vertical Pole Planter
Growing any sort of edible plant feels very rewarding. You care for it, watch it grow, and even after taking some of the fruits of your labor, you can continue to see it thrive until the weather changes. Of course, caring for any greenery, such as herbs, you want to provide them with the proper soil, amount of water, and sunlight. Without these things, you’re likely going to be staring at a brown dried-up wisp more than anything.

If you’re a little short on space, but still want to grow things that can be made into food, you might enjoy the Polanter Vertical Pole Planter. This carries a cylindrical shape, and has 12 perforated half inch holes which all sorts of plant life can grow out of. It’s made of polypropylene, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically depending on what your space allows.  This is 21 inches tall and 5” in diameter.

In the bottom of this planter, there is a reservoir which you can attach a hose to that can hold a nondescript amount of water. This means you won’t have to water every day or other day. This will cost you $35 should you be interested in livening up your home with a little greenery. Of course, we’re still on the tail end of the cold months, so this is more wishful thinking than anything at the moment, but it’s always good to think ahead!

The Man Who Tried to Invent the Like Button in the 1930s

Think Facebook invented the Like button? Think again. Back in the 1930s one man hoped to create a device that could send feedback to radio stations with the push of a button. He called it the "radiovota." Get it? The radio… voter.

They Moved Mountains (And People) To Build L.A.’s Freeways

They Moved Mountains (And People) To Build L.A.’s Freeways

Carmageddon—it was the nightmare scenario L.A.’s transportation authorities warned of when a construction project shut down a critical stretch of freeway for an entire weekend in July 2011. Gridlock. The glow of brake lights. The overwhelming angst of a city denied its full and unimpeded access to its freeways. In the end, the public outreach built around that ominous term worked. Motorists stayed home, and life went on as normal. A few wags even staged a "dinner party" on the deserted freeway.

OpenGL ES 3.1 Ups The Mobile Graphics Ante

This is the Game Developers Conference week here in San Francisco, and Khronos, the group that governs the OpenGL ES specifications is revealing the latest version of the graphics API (application programming interface) which brings new features and capabilities to mobile developers. This update brings mobiles one step closer to “feature-parity” with the latest game consoles and PC hardware, but there is a little more work that needs to be done. Here’s what’s new: (more…)

These 10,000-Year-Old Instruments Are Playing Their First Modern Gig

Roughly ten millennia ago, musicians didn’t lug amps or guitars around to their shows—they lugged lithophones, or instruments made of resonant rocks. The oldest lithophones ever found will be played in their first public concert next week in Paris. Sadly, it’ll also be their last.

Evidence of the Big Bang found in a cosmic ‘double rainbow’

It might not look like much, but this is the evidence of where we came from.

    (Credit: Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics)

While you were thinking about where you’ll be spending St. Patrick’s Day on Monday night, the hard-working folks at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics were sharing the first direct evidence of a concept first put forward by Albert Einstein almost a century ago that helps explain where we — and everything else in the universe — come from.

If your list of to-dos and projects doesn’t suddenly seem a little less impressive by comparsion, then congratulations! You’re a narcissist.

If you want to cut right to it, scientists have spotted the remnants of the until-now-theorized massive, mind-melting exponential expansion of the universe that occurred in the one trillionth of a trillionth of a second after the Big Bang. This evidence comes in the form of gravitational waves that Einstein predicted back in 1916 as part of his theory of general relativity.

These waves, also often described as “ripples in space-time,” were detected using a specialized instrument located at the South Pole called BICEP 2 that basically stares into the vast nothingness of space and measures the polarization of the faint background radiation believed to be left over from the Big Bang.

“Our team hunted for a special type of polarization calle… [Read more]

Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 4.4 Update Expected By End Of March

Galaxy S3 GT I9300 Android 4.4 Update Expected By End Of March

A few weeks back it was rumored that the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 4.4 update is not going to be released. The reason behind this is believed to be the fact that this smartphone has 1GB RAM, which may not be enough to support the update as well as the accompanying hefty TouchWiz user interface. Since then there have been conflicting reports over the matter, and just last week it was rumored that perhaps Samsung has changed its mind and that its going to release the update for GT-I9300 after all.
