Apple Raises iTunes App Store Prices For Some Regions

Apple Raises iTunes App Store Prices For Some RegionsFor our friends and readers from other parts of the world, here’s some bad news for you guys. According to an iTunes Connect letter that Apple has been sending out to developers, it seems that Apple will be raising the prices in its iTunes App Store in order to account for the changes in foreign exchange rates.

As it stands only five regions are affected by these changes which includes Australia, India, Indonesia, Turkey, and South Africa. Apple will also be raising the retail prices for Israel while decreasing some price tiers for New Zealand. For the most part it seems that purchasing from these countries’ App Stores will now be more expensive although we’re not sure by exactly how much. (more…)

A Smartphone Kill Switch Could Potentially Save Americans Over $2bn A Year

A Smartphone Kill Switch Could Potentially Save Americans Over $2bn A YearThere are certain security features that has the potential to turn away your average smartphone thief. Biometric security and features like Activation Lock are some of them, but the potential to remotely kill a smartphone would probably help deter smartphone theft even further, which is why it is not surprising that law enforcement officials are pushing for such a feature to be included in smartphones shipped and sold in the US.

Carriers have naturally resisted implementing such features because when a phone is stolen, customers will have no choice but to fork out a new one, or at least pay for a higher insurance coverage plan that will cover scenarios like phones being stolen. This is all revenue for carriers and by reducing smartphone theft, it would reduce the need for replacement phones and insurance as well. (more…)

Nokia Lumia 1520 Beats Out The Competition In Blind Camera Comparison

Nokia Lumia 1520 Beats Out The Competition In Blind Camera ComparisonPerhaps back in the day when cameras on smartphones took pretty low quality images, people didn’t really care about the megapixels or the camera technology as much as they do today. Nowadays people are slightly more fussy when it comes to image quality on their phones and features like the ability to capture photos in low-lighting conditions, image stabilization, and so on are important.

Of course sometimes there is some bias going on. Some people genuinely believe their phone is the best for taking photos because they love the brand, so in order to find out which phone truly takes the best photos from an unbiased point of view, the folks at PhoneArena have conducted a blind test with a variety of photos, asking people to vote on which looks best. iPhone 6 Concept Based On Alleged Leaked Schematics

iPhone 6 Concept Based On Alleged Leaked SchematicsRemember the other day we saw alleged schematics of the iPhone 6? Well we’re sure many are wondering how an iPhone might look like if those schematics are the real deal, so French website Nowhereelse.fr and designer Martin Hajek have thrown together a couple of concept renderings to give us a taste of what’s to come.

Based on the alleged schematics, it shows off a very thin iPhone. This is somewhat believable as Apple has in the past attempted to slim down every new version of the iPhone that they are putting out in the market. (more…)
