If you’re enamored with Office for iPad but don’t want to fork over $70-plus per year for the necessary Office 365 subscription, you’ll want to make a beeline to your local Microsoft Store this weekend. Microsoft has launched a promo that will offer…
One of the great features of the Microsoft Touch and Type covers for their Surface tablets is that they’re pretty thin and don’t really add much weight or bulk to the entire tablet. In fact the Touch covers are just a little bit thicker compared to Apple’s own Smart Covers, so imagine if Apple were to introduce such a product to their lineup, wouldn’t that be a good idea?
Well perhaps Apple will or maybe they won’t, but at the very least thanks to an Apple patent, it seems that the Cupertino company has at one point or the other explored the possibility. As you can see in the diagram above, it shows off a keyboard-like attachment designed for the iPad in mind, or rather a tablet to be exact. (more…)

Back in 2013 during Apple’s WWDC event, the Cupertino company unveiled OS X Mavericks which is Apple’s latest computer operating system at the moment. The OS was released later that year as a free upgrade for all Mac users whose computers could support it. It was a surprising move by Apple as previously they had charged for OS upgrades.
Naturally this led to more users opting to upgrading to Mavericks compared to previous builds where users might not be able to justify paying the upgrade fee. In fact last we heard, Mavericks managed to nab 6-8% of the OS X market within 24 hours of its release, which we have to say is pretty impressive. (more…)

As reported the other day, Twitter has decided to give its #music service the boot. Basically what it did was provide users with a hashtag in which they could use to discover new music, sort of like Twitter’s way of helping with the music discovery process. It was a good idea but we guess Twitter decided that maybe it wasn’t very successful and canned it.
Now for those who might be a little disappointed by the move, you might be pleased to learn that according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, it looks like Twitter may simply be revamping the service as opposed to dropping it entirely. (more…)

As it had been announced a few hours ago, Office for iPad is now official. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook appears to be pretty pleased by the launch and went as far as congratulating Microsoft and its CEO, Satya Nadella, on the app’s launch on his Twitter account.
So why is Tim Cook happy about the launch? Well as it turns out it seems that this is because Apple will be taking a 30% cut from Office 365 subscriptions that have been purchased on the iPad, as per usual with regards to in-app purchases. (more…)

Despite years of development, E Ink’s displays haven’t yet replaced traditional paper everywhere. Sony’s trying to change that with this 13.3-inch Digital Paper device intended for legal, educational and business environments and after we got a brief…
Science, man. An international team of scientists have made a major breakthrough in synthetic biology. For the first time ever, they were able to insert a man-made, custom-built chromosome into brewer’s yeast to not only create a life form but one that also passes down its man-made genes to its offspring. We’re closer to creating artificial life.
We guess it’s safe to say that the wait is finally over regarding Office for iPad. After all it was as far back as 2011 that we started hearing rumors that a version of Office for the iPad was in the works, meaning that it took Microsoft about 3 years before it was trotted out to the public.
So why did it take Microsoft so long? According to Microsoft’s newly-minted CEO, Satya Nadella, “The thing we wanted to get most right was the combination of what I would call the combination of the app, the enterprise architecture, the developer APIs, and then marry it with the device and what you expect from the device. … It’s not just a trivial thing, let’s port Word for Windows to a particular device.” (more…)

Here’s some bad news for BlackBerry users: if you frequently rely on apps like BlackBerry Newssstand or BlackBerry News to access your magazines or news, you will be disappointed to learn that BlackBerry has announced that they will be putting an end to both services in April.
BlackBerry News will be the first to get the axe on the 3rd of April which means that those who own BlackBerry Playbook tablets or older BlackBerry 7 handsets will have to look somewhere else. BlackBerry Newsstand will be cut on the 30th of April, giving BlackBerry 10 users a little bit more time. (more…)
