It is no secret that BlackBerry isn’t doing that well for themselves at the moment. It also seems that even in their home country of Canada, the company is starting to lose their grip on the market and according to a recent comScore report which focuses on the Canadian market, it seems that BlackBerry’s market share has slipped even further.
Back in December 2012, it was estimated that BlackBerry’s market share in Canada was sitting at 20% of the market, which we guess was somewhat decent. However fast forward to December 2013, BlackBerry’s market share has dropped to 15%.
It also seems that the competition has managed to catch up because comScore notes that Android has managed to grow by 10% in that one year, while iOS has grown by 5%, and now command 47% and 37% of the market respectively. We guess BlackBerry can take solace in knowing that they’re in third place compared to Windows Phone which sits at a measly 2%.
With the Canandian company sporting a new CEO in tow, we have to wonder if they will be able to turn things around, or maybe comScore’s next report will equally, if not more depressing. What do you guys think? Will John Chen be able to turn things around for BlackBerry?

Play Store Updated With “People” Section, Shows Apps Recommended By Friends
Posted in: Today's ChiliSometimes the best way to find out about a new app is by your friends recommending it to you. Unlike you having to download it and try it for yourself, seeing how it is being used by your friends or have them describe it to you will probably clue you in better on how you might be able to use it on your own device.
In a recent Play Store update, it seems that Google will be doing just that by including a “People” section in the app. Basically what the section does is that it shows you the list of apps that your friends are sharing, thus giving you an idea of what sort of apps they are using and which apps they are recommending.
Much like how iOS’ Game Center can be used to discover new games by seeing what types of games your friends or contacts are playing, we guess the same can be achieved through the Play Store’s “People” section. The section does not cover only apps but pretty much anything that can be bought in the Play Store, which includes books, movies, music, and so on.
The “People” section will also show how your friends have rated their purchases so that you know whether or not the app/book/movie/album is worth your time and your money. So if you have not updated your Play Store app yet, be sure to do so and you can start browsing right away! So, who else is pleased by this update?

Word on the street has it that Samsung could be working on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, which is essentially a variant of the Galaxy S5 handset that was unveiled at MWC 2014. Now according to a sighting on Samsung’s User Agent Profile, it seems that the device has been “confirmed”.
According to the earlier rumor, it was suggested that the Galaxy S5 Active could come with the model number SM-G870 and in the User Agent Profile, a certain SM-G870A was spotted, with the “A” apparently indicating that the handset will be bound for AT&T’s network.
Considering that its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active was an exclusive to AT&T, we guess it does not really come as a surprise that the Galaxy S5 Active could be an AT&T exclusive as well. However we have to say that we’re curious as to what the Galaxy S5 Active could bring to the table.
Given that the Samsung Galaxy S5 already has water-resistant and dustproof features, it kind of defeats the point of an “Active” version, right? Unless Samsung is planning on introducing more features, perhaps a more rugged design, or maybe it might come bundled with activity apps and whatnot.
Either way we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for more information, so do check back with us at a later date to see if there will be any additional information regarding the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.

If you were thinking about getting your hands on a brand new Windows Phone handset, perhaps the recently announced Nokia Lumia 930 might be of interest to you. Given that the handset is essentially the international variant of the Nokia Lumia Icon, which is a smaller version of the Lumia 1520, safe to say that the Lumia 930 will be a pretty good buy.
Perhaps to tempt you even further, Nokia has revealed that the Lumia 930 will be bundled with a free wireless charging accessory. Previously, the wireless charging accessory was sold separately which meant that customers who weren’t particular taken by the feature could opt not to buy it.
However Nokia plans on helping push the use of wireless charging which is why they have decided to bundle the accessory together with the sale of the handset. The good news is that the Lumia 930 will have wireless charging built into the phone itself, meaning that you won’t have to purchase an additional charging plate and will just require a charging base.
The Nokia Lumia 930 is expected to go on sale later this June where it will be released in regions like Europe, Asia, and the Middle East where it is expected to retail for around $599 off-contract. So if you had your eye on a new phone, perhaps the Lumia 930 with its free wireless charger might be of interest to you.

Wireless covers are still something of a novel feature for smartphones or tablets. This is because that despite the fact that the devices can be charged wirelessly, they still require a charging plate which is tethered via a power cord, meaning that at the end of the day, you will still have to place your phone at a location in order to charge it.
Perhaps one day we will be able to live in a world where magnetic resonance is used for wireless charging but until then, we guess we’re “stuck” with regular wireless charging instead. Now if you were thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung has recently taken the wraps off their new wireless charging accessories.
These accessories include an S-View flip cover accessory or a regular backplate. Both models are the same except with the former, you will get an S-View cover, but both will feature a standard Qi charging module in the back that should be compatible with Qi chargers, including Samsung’s own model if you wanted an official charger to go with it.
The design of the covers are similar to the design of the Galaxy S5, meaning that it will sport the same dimpled and textured design on the back. All the models will also feature the gasket which is part of the Galaxy S5’s water-resistance feature. The wireless charging covers are now up for pre-order so if you’d like to learn more or place a pre-order of your own, head on over to Samsung’s website for the details.

One of the more iconic features of the iPhone and the iOS software would be its ability to “slide to unlock”. Apparently this was a feature that was thought up in order to prevent the phone from accidentally unlocking itself while in bag or a pocket which can happen when you use physical buttons.
However it seems that the feature was only created as an after-thought because according to Apple’s head of human-interface, Greg Christie, the company had opted for an always-on screen which could be ready to go at the touch of the screen, but apparently due to the amount of power that would require, they weren’t able to include that feature.
Christie was testifying at the Apple-Samsung trial where he was quoted as saying. “We couldn’t meet our power requirements if we had that active a state. We had to resort to a power button.” This eventually led to Apple going with the “slide to unlock” feature, which at the same would also solve the problem of issues like pocket dialing.
His recount of the history and the feature was to stress the importance of some of Apple’s patents and that they are valuable and are worth the damages that Apple is asking from Samsung. Christie states that the “slide to unlock” feature is important because it would be the first thing that a customer would see, whether it be at the store or at home after purchasing an iPhone.
Like we said, the feature has become somewhat iconic and is usually linked to Apple’s iOS devices, much like how the pattern unlock feature is usually thought of to be an Android feature.
