App Will Help Evaluate Your Child’s Risk Of Autism

App Will Help Evaluate Your Childs Risk Of AutismMany years ago if one wanted to test their child for autism, they’d have to spend a fair amount of money to get their kids tested, but fast forward to today, it seems that all you’d need is an app. The app is developed by a new startup company called Cognoa. The idea is to help evaluate children for autism, which according to the company’s CEO, Brent Vaughan who spoke to TechCrunch, has risen to 1 in 68 children in the US.

Due to the rising number, not to mention the time it takes to see warning signs of autism and the average waiting time to see a specialist could take as long as a year, which is time lost that the child could have benefited from an intervention program. What Cognoa’s app does is that it helps to evaluate the risk for developmental delay and autism for children below the age of 3.

The app will ask the parents a series of questions, as well as allow them to record a 5 minute video of their child performing a simple set of activities. After which based on the data, it will provide an assessment as to whether the child is at risk of autism. It should be noted that the app does not diagnose whether or not the child has autism, but rather evaluates as to whether there could be a risk, after which parents can then do something about it if they believe it to be the case.

The app has been tested over 20,000 times and has been used in numerous studies and has shown an accuracy above 90% for children under 4 years and as young as 13 months.

Man Compares $50 3D Printed Hand To $42,000 Prosthetic Limb

So we have been hearing a fair amount about 3D printers recently and how they might be used in the medical industry. Now as far as prosthetic limbs are concerned, they do get pretty expensive especially when it involves movable parts, like in the case of Jose Delgado Jr. Jose was born without a left hand and in the past year, he had been using a prosthetic hand that costs $42,000.

The device receives signals from the muscles in Jose’s forearm and will allow the mechanical fingers of the device to move like a real hand would. Perhaps interested in seeing how a 3D printed limb might hold out against a more expensive and hi-tech one, Jeremy Simon from 3DUniverse decided to pay Jose a visit and offered to print him the Cyborg Beast prosthetic hand made from ABS plastic which only costs about $50 to print.

So how does the device fare against the $42,000 prosthetic limb? Well it turns out that Jose is actually liking the Cyborg Beast a lot more than his $42,000 limb. Jose claims that the Cyborg Beast is more comfortable and performed better. However he did note that some pieces do break off due to its material, but printing it is easy and not to mention very affordable.

At the moment Simon is working with Jose on printing a new hand, this time from a material called Bridge nylon which is supposed to be even stronger than the previous one. If anything this just serves to show that prosthetic limbs can be 3D printed at a very low cost, which means that people living in war torn countries or army veterans will be able to get access to replacement limbs much easily. In the meantime you can check out the video above to see Jose comparing his $50 hand to his $42,000 hand.

The LG L65 Is Official

The LG L65 Is OfficialSo the other day we caught wind that LG could be working on another L-series handset known as the LG L65, and it turns out that the rumors were right because LG has since officially announced the handset on their Russian website which has us wondering if the device will make its way stateside, but then again there are carriers such as MetroPCS who stock the LG L70 so there is a chance that maybe it will.

It also seems that the rumors were right about the phone and some of its hardware specs. For starters the phone will come with a 4.3-inch IPS display but as far as resolution is concerned, the LG L65 will only come with a WVGA 800×480 display which is admittedly pretty low as far as modern smartphones are concerned.

The phone will also be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz (dual-core) and will be accompanied by 1GB of RAM. There will also be a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, 4GB of onboard storage expandable via microSD, a 2,100mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity.

The good news is that despite its low-end specs, the LG L65 will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat, so users don’t have to worry about waiting for any updates since it will be running the latest version of Android. The phone is priced around $210 in Russia so we can expect that it will be priced affordably when it arrives in the US as well, if and when it does.

It’s not the most powerful phone but like we said, it’s affordable so if you’re in the market for a device that does not break the bank, perhaps the LG L65 is a phone to keep an eye out for.

Xiaomi’s Tablet Could Launch On The 23rd Of April

When it comes to creating tablets, Xiaomi might not necessarily be a company that comes to mind. Smartphones maybe, tablets not really. In any case thanks to a recent teaser by the company (via GizChina), it seems that they could be unveiling a new tablet on the 23rd of April is only a few days away.

The teaser image shows off a side-profile of the device which upon first glance, reminds us of either Apple’s Magic Trackpad, Apple Keyboard, or Lenovo’s Yoga tablet. Unfortunately at this point in time, there’s not much known about Xiaomi’s tablet efforts, meaning that as far as hardware specs and features are concerned, it is still a mystery.Xiaomis Tablet Could Launch On The 23rd Of April

The design of the device, however, has been somewhat revealed in the teaser image, but then again it’s only a side profile so it’s hard to tell what the actual device will look like. However if it does end up resembling the Lenovo Yoga tablet, we can only imagine that Lenovo will not be too pleased about it.

There’s also no telling if Xiaomi will bring the device to international markets. In the past Xiaomi has typically released devices for China or for the Asian region, but the company has expressed interest in expanding beyond its borders so who knows. Either way if this sounds like something you might be interested in, check back with us on the 23rd of April for the details.

The Rufus Cuff Will Put A 3-inch Screen On Your Wrist

The Rufus Cuff Will Put A 3 inch Screen On Your WristOne of the things that smartwatch makers are doing is that they’re trying to replicate the same size and comfort that normal watches offer, with the difference being that these watches are a lot more interactive and will do more than just tell the time. That’s one way of going about it, but what about those who’d rather a much bigger display?

Well that’s where the Rufus Cuff comes in and it is really is a “monster” on your wrist, at least compared to smartwatches. The Rufus Cuff will pack a 3-inch display and will come with a host of features that users might appreciate. This includes GPS, voice control via a built-in microphone, speakers, a camera, and even has access to the Google Play Store!

The device (we’re not sure if it can be considered a smartwatch anymore) will also play nicely with both Android and iOS devices. Interestingly enough it goes beyond what smartwatches can do and can even connect to the WiFi on its own, meaning that you won’t have to rely on it pairing with your phone for connectivity.

Now we have to admit that a 3-inch display is a little big as far as wrist wear is concerned, but if you don’t mind the size and actually appreciate the size since it would make surfing a lot better, you might want to head on over to its Indiegogo page where they are currently seeking funding. As it stands the project has managed to raise close to $180,000 which is shy of $20,000 from its goal and with 7 days to go, there is a chance that they might make it.

Moto G LTE And Ferrari Rumored To Be In The Works

Moto G LTE And Ferrari Rumored To Be In The WorksDespite the Moto G hardly being the most powerful Android device out there, it has proven to be quite a success which only goes to show that people truly appreciate an affordable device that is well-built. That being said, we have recently heard rumors about a possible successor/variant to the Moto G called the Moto E, and now according to new rumors, it seems that Motorola could also be expanding the Moto G lineup with some variants.

These variants allegedly come in the form of the Moto G LTE and the Moto G Ferrari. The former is pretty obvious since it will basically be the Moto G with LTE connectivity, a feature which is currently not available in the current-gen device and we can only imagine how much more popular the handset will be with LTE. Other than that its hardware is expected to remain the same, so the only difference would be its LTE connection.

Next up is the Moto G Ferrari. Once again the name itself is pretty obvious and while Motorola has not confirmed anything yet, we can only assume this is yet another Motorola collaboration with Ferrari. This isn’t the first time Motorola has created a Ferrari-themed handset so we can’t say we’re too surprised. Once again apart from that, we expect the hardware to remain the same.

Assuming the rumors are true, we can’t say we’re too surprised. After all Motorola recently announced the Moto G Forte, which was essentially the Moto G with a grip shell that comes attached to the phone by default (as opposed to customers have to buy it separately. No word on when Motorola will announce these rumored devices, but if the May rumors are true, we guess we will learn more then.
