Otteroo is a water floatie that fits around your baby’s neck and is meant to give her free range of motion while familiarizing her with water. By allowing your baby to move and float without restrictions, the designers of Otteroo believe their product will promote muscle strength, coordination, and give your baby confidence through independence. This product scares the bejesus out of me.
Oculus has found a way to make a headset that does more than just hang a big screen in front of your face. By combining stereoscopic 3-D, 360-degree visuals, and a wide field of view—along with a supersize dose of engineering and software magic—it hacks your visual cortex. As far as your brain is concerned, there’s no difference between experiencing something on the Rift and experiencing it in the real world.
Those who want to practice meditation are often initially challenged to
pick ‘the best way’ to meditate. Some experts argue for mindfulness
meditation, like focusing on your breathing or on body parts, or about a
specific object or even a real problem one is experiencing. Others
prefer a non-directed, open-minded meditation in which one allows
thoughts to come and go without dwelling on them or judging them or even
reacting to them. A team of researchers from the Norwegian University
of Science and Technology, the University of Oslo, and the University of
Sydney recently published their findings on the respective methods and
their effects on the brain as seen on magnetic resonance imagery (MRI).
Rubik’s Cube turns 40
Posted in: Today's ChiliHappy Birthday to one of the most frustrating puzzles ever invented. Most people can’t even solve the thing without cheating via the solution book or, now a days, YouTube.
The Rubiks Cube was designed by Erno Rubik and was originally meant to be a learning tool to help explain 3 dimensional geometry. When he turned all the pieces, it ended up taking him a month solve it. It was in 1979 that he took the cube to a toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany when it was bought and licensed.
In celebration of the big event, the Google Doodle is a Rubik’s cube. If you thought the original hand held one was hard to solve, try their version.
Google in Talks for Buying Twitch
Posted in: Today's ChiliAccording to Variety, YouTube has already acquired the video game streaming service Twitch in a $1 billion dollar deal. Twitch has been called the ESPN of video games, bringing live streaming video content of video games while they are being played.
YouTube has been the foremost giant in providing streaming video of saved content but has not had as much success in the live streaming market, especially with gamers. Twitch on the other hand has done very well with live streaming content and is well-known among the gaming population. Both have been making moves into the others territory in the recent past and some good competition was expected between two in the way of content and service offerings. The talk of this deal has brought concern to many who had hoped for better offerings as a result of competition that will no longer exist after this deal.
If you have not heard of Twitch before, 1) maybe you should check it out and 2) to put the use in perspective Twitch has 45 million users and was responsible for 1.35% of all downloaded bandwidth on broadband networks in North America in March of 2014.
R2-D2 Virtual Keyboard
Posted in: Today's ChiliYet another must have for the Star Wars collector. Virtual keyboards have been around in some form for years, but This R2-D2 virtual keyboard projector makes all others look pretty boring.
He will make you feel like you have your very own R2-D2 droid at home. He beeps when you power on/off, as you type and sounds just like the real thing. This little guy can control either your mobile device or your personal computer through a Bluetooth 3.0 connection.
The downside to this; the price. He will run you about $330 over at Run A Town. We think that is a bit of a stretch considering non-Star Wars projectors are about 1/2 of that.
