This week, Amazon added (absurdly expensive) commemorative coins to the long list of things you can buy at from its sprawling online bazaar. And while none of us is going to go drop a couple mil on a coin—even with free shipping—it got us to thinking: what’s the most expensive item on Amazon?
As conference rooms go, you could do way, way worse than the one situated in Newfoundland’s Fogo Island Inn, what with windows that look straight out onto the rocky shores and far off foggy horizon line. Pull the printed curtains down and suddenly you’ve got a cool stormy night effect, but the real magic happens when the lamps go off and the textiles begin to radiate like the Northern Lights.
Perhaps you watched the Billboard Music Awards and were aghast (or impressed) by Michael Jackson’s performance from beyond the grave. Or maybe you were at Coachella and caught a resurrected Tupac onstage with real-life Snoop Dogg. Hell, let’s say you…

Americans are still not getting the message about protecting their personal info, despite recent epic data breaches. Consumer Reports said that one in seven US residents, or about 45 million people, received some kind of notice that their personal…

We’re pretty sure companies can’t be happy when photos or details about their products are leaked ahead of their official announcement. Apple is a company known for their secrecy and tight-lippedness, or at least they once were. It seems that ever since the iPhone 5, Apple has had a tough time clamping down on leaks.
In fact photos of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were making their way across the internet well before Apple had announced them, and if those trends are to continue, it seems that the iPhone 6 is probably one of the worst-kept secrets of all time, thanks to the flood of leaked images we’ve seen lately. However it looks like Apple will finally be doing something about, according to a recent tweet by Sonny Dickson.
For those unfamiliar with Dickson, he’s an Australian-based leaker who gained notoriety by leaking photos of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. According to Dickson, he claims that Apple has been working with the Chinese authorities to try and catch those who have been leaking iPhone 6-related information. Given that most of Apple’s suppliers and manufacturers are based in China, this hardly comes as a surprise that they are working with Chinese authorities.
He goes on to state that Apple has hired 200 security officers who job is to go around the country and trying to catch those who are selling iPhone 6-related accessories. As you might recall, a lot of these leaks are from case manufacturers who are trying to create accessories for the iPhone 6 ahead of schedule. Will Apple’s efforts help with the leaks? well we guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

According to the rumors, Apple could be interested in entering the mobile payment market. Given that Apple has millions of credit card information on file, thanks to the number of users purchasing and downloading apps, movies, music, TV shows from the iTunes App Store, we guess the creation of a mobile payment service did make sense.
That and the fact that the iPhone 5s comes with a fingerprint scanner that will help with authentication, well all of this just smells like a setup for a mobile payment service in the future. Now according to the folks at 9to5Mac, they claim that one of their sources has revealed to them that Apple is currently in talks with retail store chains about implementing some form of mobile payments service.
These talks have reportedly taken place over the past few months and have involved high-end retail store brands which sells luxury clothing and premium goods, suggesting that maybe Apple could be targeting the high-end market first before moving into more mainstream markets. The talks have also revealed the difficulties of building a unified payment service, especially since different retailers have different payment and transaction practices.
9to5Mac’s sources have also told them that Apple has asked retailers to survey their customers regarding the idea of being able to pay for goods using their smartphones and other mobile devices. Apple’s interest in mobile payments has been briefly touched upon by Tim Cook before, when he mentioned that one of the uses of Touch ID could be towards mobile payments, stating that it was a big opportunity and that Apple was “intrigued”.
Whether this will lead to anything remains to be seen, but with Apple promising to deliver their best products in 25 years, perhaps we can look forward to Apple revealing their mobile payment system later this year. Until then do take it with a grain of salt.

Apple’s Japan Store To Feature A “Green Curtain” To Reduce Energy Consumption
Posted in: Today's ChiliOne of the reasons why Apple is able to ensure that their data centers are green is because these data centers are usually built from ground up by Apple, and in a location far away and usually isolated. This is compared to Apple Stores which are usually part of a mall or in the middle of a city where it might not be as convenient to go green.
About a week ago, Apple’s VP of Environmental Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, mentioned that Apple could be interested in their retail stores being powered by renewable energy in the future, but admitted that it would be tricky. However in Japan it looks like Apple is working towards that, or at least trying to be as green as they can for now.
As you can see in the photo above (courtesy of Mac Otakara), it shows a green curtain of thick vines that covers an entire side of the Apple Store. It is unclear if other parts of the store will be given the same treatment since the construction tarps are covering up the rest of the construction, with the store expected to be ready by the end of June.
Given that Apple will be relying on a lot of glass for their store, it could mean that during the day, it would cause the store to heat up, which in turn would mean that more energy is required to keep the place cool. By introducing a thick curtain of vines, it will help block out the sunlight, thus keeping the store relatively cool, and being environmentally friendly all at once.
It’s an interesting idea, although we guess we’ll just have to wait and see whether this “green curtain” will really help Apple to cut down on the amount of power that they have to consume in order to keep the store up and running.
