See the Towering Future of San Francisco’s Skyline In a 3D-Printed Model

San Francisco’s skyline is a-changing a lot, with massive new developments going up all over Market Street’s main drag and squeezing in downtown. The pace is fast enough that it’s tough to imagine what it will look like next week, much less next year, but a close look at this oversized 3D-printed model is like an urban crystal ball—it was made to predict SF’s basic infrastructure in the not-so-distant future of 2017.

A Prototype Catamaran Lets You Cruise the Sea on Cushy Suspension Stilts

As the Top Gear team once famously demonstrated, the motion of the ocean makes for a bone-jarringly rough ride the faster you move across its surface. However aboard this prototype catamaran from Nauti-Craft, you’ll barely feel the rolling of the waves at any knot.

The Beach Vault – Keeps Your Treasure Buried

Unknown

The days are getting longer and warmer, and thoughts have turned towards the summer. Time to start unpacking your bathing suits and flip-flops, and start planning for some long and lazy beach days. I love everything about the sea, well, almost. Sometimes, my day of relaxation gets a little annoying, while I swim, (or doze off on my beach towel) I worry about my wallet, phone and car keys… I worry they’ll be lost, or damaged by moisture, sand, or worse.. swiped by a criminal who could care less about ruining my perfect day.

So how do you take everything you need with you, and still keep it safe? Check out the Beach Vault. A nifty little plastic bucket, with a twist… a real twist! The bucket has been designed to screw into the sand, through the included beach towel, and the lid incorporates a rubber O ring to help prevent water and sand from getting to your stuff. Once “installed” the Beach Vault also hides your valuables from view, and even keeps your towel from blowing away.

The Beach Vault was a Kickstarter project that did NOT make its goal, however the inventors of the Beach Vault are still intent on bringing it to market. They already have in place a manufacturing company to make the capsules, and if their funding goals are met, you could still have one in your hands by summer, if you want to watch the video, or buy/invest in the around 30 dollar Beach vault, visit thebeachvault.com, and don’t forget your sunscreen.

The Cue Health Tracker wants to keep you in top form

Cue Health Tracker

We all want to know how we’re progressing when it comes to fitness. How many pounds we’ve lost, the distance we’ve gone, reps we’ve done, and the list goes on and on. While smart watches have helped us keep better track of those numbers, it’s not telling us exact information on how our bodies are doing. If you wish you knew what you were deficient in, there is a way to do it, but it comes at a price.

The Cue Health Tracker is a great way to check in on your body at the molecular level. It can tell you if you have the flu, as well as what your fertility, testosterone, inflammation, and vitamin D levels are. The corresponding app will show you how you’re doing, and if you’re running low in any of these when you shouldn’t be, it will show you how to auto-correct by eating specific foods, doing workout routines, and more.

It is a bit pricey at $199, but that’s not necessarily going to hurt your wallet. To check these levels, you will need to take a sample. That can be a swipe in your nostril or the inside of your cheek, but several of them require a blood sample. If you have no problem with being pricked by a tiny needle once a day or more, then this would be a great way to keep track of your overall health. Even if you are needle-phobic, being able to test these things at home are far better than going in for a doctor visit or buying specific kits to test this sort of thing.

Whistle/GPS for Pets

Whistle with GPSThe guys over at Whistle are upgrading their “fitbit for pets”. You can now know where your dog is at all times.

Whistle was originally designed as an activity monitor for pets. Basically you can see any spikes in activity during the day, or know if that walk you took Fido on was really beneficial for him. Now they are adding GPS to their device. Considering that over 10 million pets are lost each year this is a great idea.

The Whistle device attaches to your pets collar and can record location, rest and activity. So you will still know if your pet is getting the right amount of activity everyday. They claim that the Whistle/GPS is the smallest device of its kind on the market and also has the longest battery life. You will be able to use it for about a week before having to recharge.

As of right now, it looks like you can pre-order one of these for $49, but that price will be going up in the next few days to $130.00. The downside, it won’t be ready for shipping until summer 2015.
