AT&T Is Offering $50K To Engineers To Make New York City Safer For Pedestrians

new york city traffic While smartphones make a whole lot of things in our lives easier, the instant access to information and constant notifications about what our friends are up to tends to be rather distracting as we go about our day. AT&T thinks that tendency might be contributing to an unfortunate statistic: in New York City, 14,845 crashes between cars and pedestrians were recorded in 2013, a 35% increase… Read More

Samsung's 7-inch Galaxy W blurs the line between phones and tablets

Frank Anthony Swimwear Don’t Get Wet

Don’t you think that this is pretty ironic, to have a pair of swim shorts that do not actually get wet? Well, this is what the Frank Anthony Swimwear is all about, where it will rely on Hydrophobic Nanotechnology in order to make such a dream possible. Coming in sizes that range from 28 all the way to 40, the Frank Anthony Swimwear has been specially designed to be resistant to all water based substances, where among them would include the likes of coffee, soda and fruit juice.

Hmmm, being able to repel soda, coffee and fruit juice certainly makes this sound rather space age, don’t you think so? Apart from that, it would also translate to being resistant to just about any forms of staining that one would naturally receive when it comes to the aforementioned liquids.

In fact, just in case you are wondering whether it is a kind of topical coating that performs all of such “magic”, it isn’t. The fabric that is used features a hydrophobic nanostructure within the actual fabric itself, which in turn makes it breathable as well as completely safe for use. Right now, Frank Anthony Swimwear claims to be the only swimwear company on the market that relies on such hydrophobic nanotechnology fabric, which has been proven in tests to reduce dry-times by up to 95% compared to vanilla 100% polyester swim shorts. Hopefully the Kickstarter project will be able to raise the relevant funds in due time to become reality.

Zazzi The Wearable Smart Luxury Jewelry

Zazzi The Wearable Smart Luxury JewelryDiamonds are a girl’s best friend, or so that is the popular mantra that I am quite sure that many of us are familiar with by now. Having said that, FashionTEQ has unveiled the Zazzi, which is a wearable smart luxury jewelry that ensures you remain connected at all times throughout the day, as it notifies you of incoming phone calls, text messages, and emails among others. Do bear in mind, however, that the Zazzi that we see above happens to be a prototype, so it is in no way an indication of what the final product would look like.

Basically, Zazzi will make use of low energy Bluetooth technology in order to synchronize with your smartphone while disguising your tech as a fashion accessory, enabling one to remain connected to the smartphone in a discreet manner. It provides a notification and/or vibration each time there is an making you aware of an incoming call or text while your smartphone remains in your pocket, purse or bag. All that you need to do is to give it a quick glance, and you will be able to know just which friend (or foe) has called.

The battery of the Zazzi is said to be able to last for up to a week, and you can opt to wear it as a pendant, a ring or cuff, now how about that for flexibility? It is also water resistant and will accept software updates from time to time.

Moog Theremini Helps You Make Music Creatively

Musicians are a creative lot, and if you give them an avenue to create music in a totally unique manner, then I am quite sure that they are more than willing to take up the opportunity with both hands without missing a beat. Having said that, the sonic possibilities that can be achieved by the Moog Theremini are virtually endless, being a re-imagination of one of the oldest electronic musical instruments around. Also known as Bob Moog’s first love, the Theremin, the Theremini will merge a powerful sound engine that has been derived from Moog’s award winning synthesizer, Animoog, alongside the traditional no-touch playing of a traditional Theremin.

With the help of assistive pitch quantization, each player can adjust the instrument’s level of playing difficulty depending on their skill level, and when one is at the maximum position, the Theremini is capable of playing every note in a selected scale perfectly, which would just about make it nigh impossible for a wrong note to be played. Set to minimum, the Theremini will then function as a traditional Theremin, where the analog heterodyning oscillator will keep the pitch in control without the need for any assistance at all. When was the last time you made sweet music creatively?

Hummingbird Duo Educational Electronics Kit

Hummingbird Duo Educational Electronics KitThey say that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, but there are times when Jack would need to set aside to study and learn, too. Educational tools have improved by leaps and bounds over the years thanks to the introduction of technology, and with the Hummingbird Duo, it might very well signal the advent of an electronics kit that is not only fun but educational as well even for a fourth grader. The Hummingbird Duo will let you learn progressively, where individual steps will increase your skill level and when you master each step, the Hummingbird Duo can then be used in newer and more interesting methods.

The Hummingbird Duo is the brainchild of a spin-off company from the Carnegie Mellon University, where it started off with the Arts and Bots project in the CREATE Lab. The very first Hummingbird kit version has already made its way across a few hundred schools, where it has been used to expand the students’ creative minds and tickle their imagination.

It is touted to be an excellent vehicle or platform to introduce the likes of electronics, robotics, engineering and programming regardless of the environment, be it at home, in the classroom, in summer camp, or in a club. Hopefully more educational minded folk will see the Hummingbird Duo to be relevant in the development of a child than as an afterthought.

OnePlus One Accessories Spotted

OnePlus One Accessories SpottedThe OnePlus One is a truly unique smartphone as it does come with its fair share of hardware specifications that are able to duke it out with the very best of them out there without breaking the bank, although the availability of this particular smartphone is still rather questionable at this point in time. Of course, assuming you happen to be one of those who have managed to get hold of the OnePlus One, it would make plenty of sense to introduce some accessories to go along with the handset, don’t you think so? In fact, the manufacturer has already made available a clear case which will snap directly on to the back of the handset, while another case will arrive in a streak of bright yellow.

That is not all, however, as there will also be other kinds of accessories that will make life with your OnePlus One a whole lot easier, where they range from a bunch of screen protectors to a leather flip cover. The flip cover itself is said to arrive in a range of colors, where among them include a bright orange variant to keep the yellow one company.

Well, did you manage to receive an invitation to purchase the OnePlus One, and would you prefer to gun for the 64GB model instead of the 16GB one? You can check out the rest of the accessories for the OnePlus One here.

iPhone 6 Presentation Video A Fake

Hidden banners that have been spotted at WWDC 2014 alongside a slew of rumors that claim to deliver the latest upcoming news that will happen in due time have certainly led some folks down different paths from time to time, but it seems that there is at least one rumor that can be debunked. Some of us might have come across on the Internet a video of an empty conference room at the Moscone Center which will be the venue where WWDC 2014 is held, with some speculating that the iPhone 6 will allegedly be projected onto a screen in front of the room. This would certainly lend some weight to the claim that the next generation iPhone will be presented in the week ahead. However, it seems that such a video is nothing but a fake, where it is made up of two different bits

An image of the conference room which was discovered happened to be the handiwork of Reddit member “likesthings” that was found on Google, where said photo matched 100% correctly to one of the frames of the video. Apparently, the forger actually went through the trouble of shooting a video of a WWDC conference room, before throwing in images of iPhone 6 mockups that have already flooded the Internet, despite Apple having looked to an elite Chinese task force to weed out such practices. If there’s no iPhone 6 announcement, what other kinds of hardware announcements can we look forward to?

Bouncy Slide Blows Away, Injures 2 Children In Colorado (VIDEO)

Two children suffered minor injuries when the inflatable slide they had been playing on was tossed around by the wind in Littleton, Colo., on Saturday.

One girl was thrown off the slide as it blew away. She was treated at the scene.

“All of a sudden, it picks up and there’s a girl going down the slide,” Vannessa Atencio, a witness, told KUSA. “She flies about eight feet in the air. The slide tumbles across the field.”

The other child, a boy, was on the slide as it tumbled and slid some 200 to 300 feet before coming to rest by a pond. He was taken to a hospital as a precaution but is expected to be OK, according to KCNC.

Parents were screaming. Moms were crying,” Dave Colee told the Denver Post. “It was slow-motion. It took probably 60 seconds to roll across the field.”

Both children are believed to be about 10 years old and had been attending the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree. KUSA said the organization told Airbound, the company running the slide, to stop operating immediately. They added that Airbound may not be invited to future Jamborees.

Airbound told KUSA that its slide had been properly staked the ground.

Weather.com noted that wind gusts of up to 40mph were recorded in the area.

It’s the second high-profile incident involving a large inflatable in less than a month. On May 12, three children were injured when a bouncy house was tossed some 50 feet in the air in South Glens Falls, N.Y.

Two of the children suffered serious injuries and one was in a medically induced coma for several days. All three are now recovering, The Saratogian reports.
