There’s a new trend sweeping the credit card fraud business, and it takes the concept of money laundering quite literally: criminals are swiping card details from car washes.
There’s a mesmerizing new project from an organization called Blitzortung.org that lets you see real-time lightning strikes around the world. It works thanks to a network of volunteers willing to purchase and set up a $275 or so detection kit. Once…

I am quite sure that many of us are sick and tired of those “Your momma’s so big…” jokes, that perhaps it is time to focus on something that is whole lot more important and pressing at the moment – that is, the size of your TV in the living room. TVs at home have advanced to such a stage where it is possible to somewhat recreate a “mini cinema” environment, although you might still need to make certain additions to the audio hardware and home theater in order for it to come close. Well, here is one particular TV that would go down well with football (aka soccer) fans now that we are in the thick of World Cup fever – the Titan Zeus TV.
The Titan Zeus certainly lives up to its namesake, where you can more or less determine this to be a “deity” of sorts among the rest of the TVs out there. Gargantuan, behemoth, these adjectives would not be able to do it justice, considering it measures a whopping 370 inches across diagonally. That kind of size would make this the Godzilla of home TVs, so to speak, since it is over thrice the size of the largest advertised home TVs out there, clearly setting it apart from the rest of the crowd.
Right now, the UK-based Titan Screens has managed to sell only one of these monster TVs to a buyer who prefers to keep his or her identity anonymous. That is not surprising, since the Titan Zeus TV itself would have burned a $1.6 million hole in the owner’s pocket, and this 26’ x 16’ panel will certainly need a mansion if it were to fit in.
Packing its fair share of pixels and stuff, the Titan Zeus TV will deliver 4K resolution, while offering a 4:3 aspect ratio. There are plans to work on a similar albeit ultra-widescreen version later this summer.

Activision has announced that they are planning on spending as much as $500 million on Bungie’s upcoming shooter, Destiny. Safe to say that are hoping that the game will turn out to be the next big thing in shooters. Sony too, seems pretty confident that Destiny will become the PlayStation 4’s best-selling title for 2014, so it looks like a lot will be riding on its release.
That being said, during E3 2014, Bungie announced that they would be opening the game’s alpha to PlayStation gamers and if you’re wondering just how well-received that alpha was, Bungie has some numbers for you. According to the developers, they claimed that the alpha, which was open for a short period of time, managed to see over 6.4 million games played.
This resulted in over 149 million primary weapon kills, 21 million secondary weapon kills, 4 million heavy weapon kills, and so on. According to Bungie, “Putting alpha code out in the wild is always a risk; that build is ancient by our standards, riddled with content and bugs we’d never allow through to ship.”
However they add that despite it being classified as an alpha, the team felt that the release was still a relatively smooth one. “In many cases, the really rough and jagged edges had been hammered smooth long ago, making it all the more difficult to see them discovered, but in just as many others, there’s still work to do, and the only way to get it done is to let you touch down in our world to tear the place wide open.”
Bungie expects to begin public beta next month, but in the meantime for gamers who managed to get in on the alpha, what did you guys think of it?

As you might have heard, China wasn’t too happy about it when Microsoft officially ended support for Windows XP. They called Microsoft irresponsible but ironically enough despite alternatives such as Windows 8 being out there, they chose not to upgrade, claiming that Windows 8 would basically allow them to be spied on.
Now China is a pretty huge market and for the Chinese government to ban the installation of Windows 8 on government computers, that’s a lot of computers and business that Microsoft would be missing out on. According to a rumor from WZor, an individual known for his Microsoft-related leaks, it seems that the situation has caused quite a panic over at Microsoft.
Now the message is in Russian so it could be lost in translation, but we suppose the general idea is that Microsoft isn’t too pleased about the situation and are scrambling as to what they might do with Windows 8’s successor, Windows 9. The situation with China has apparently changed some of Microsoft’s plans.
For starters one of the changes includes Windows 9’s original release date. Microsoft is also said to be making changes to one of the SKUs, which might involve the removal of cloud-based integration in the OS, along with the ability to disable the Modern UI 2.0. No word on when Microsoft plans to release Windows 9, but last we heard it is possible that it could debut next year. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us at a later date for the details.

The Yo app might seem silly and novel on the surface, but for some strange reason it has managed to catch on in a very fast and viral way. Perhaps it’s the simplistic nature of the app which stands out from the sea of feature-rich apps like WhatsApp, LINE, WeChat, and etc. In any case you might recall that the app was hacked last week and now according to a post by Yo’s founder, Or Arbel, he thinks that it was lucky that they were hacked.
Posting on Medium, Arbel wrote that being hacked was something he considered lucky, especially since the hack took place at the app’s early stages, as opposed to later where the breach could have had more disastrous results.
For example he states that as it stands, Yo only requires you to choose a username, as opposed to having you login with your Facebook account or enter your email, full name, or passwords, so as far as data breaches are concerned, it’s not as bad as when PSN or Target was hacked and credit card information was released.
Arbel also wrote that the issue has since been resolved, hopefully. The app reportedly took 8 hours to build and managed to rack up 1 million users so far. Perhaps the creators did not anticipate such high demand, otherwise more time would have been spent looking for bugs and closing off any potential exploits, but hopefully Yo has managed to take something away from all of this and avoid similar situations in the future.

A few months ago there was a video where they filmed childrens’ reactions to using a rotary phone. Now some of us have used rotary phones growing up, so we know how they work. Children, on the other hand, have grown up with regular phones, or even smartphones so the concept of a dial just seems so foreign.
That being said, it seems that TheFineBros are back with a new video, and instead of seeing how children react to technology, they filmed how the elderly react to more modern technology, like Google Glass. It’s quite polarizing since the previous video was kids reacting to technology that the elders were familiar with, and now the video shows how the elderly react to technology that these children would probably be more familiar with.
Given that Google Glass does not appear to be your typical pair of glasses, some of the participants had some difficulty putting them on. However some were pretty game and played along, treating it like some kind of sci-fi gadget they might have seem in a sci-fi flick like Star Trek or Star Wars. Either way the results are pretty hilarious.
While the video was probably made with humor in mind, we guess companies like Google can probably learn from this, especially if they’re hoping to capture audiences across all ages. In the meantime if you have some time to spare, check out the video above to see how the elderly react to Google Glass.

Earlier this year, Google announced Project Tango. For those unfamiliar with Project Tango and are hearing about it for the first time, well it’s basically a smartphone built by Google that has the ability to measure its surroundings, thus allowing the user to essentially create a 3D map of sorts. This is thanks to the cameras built into Tango that allows it to sense things like depth, so basically one would be able to create a 3D map of the interior of their home.
This might come in handy for interior designers or architects who might require such details and information, but it looks like Google isn’t alone in this. A Spanish startup company called E-Capture R&D has started building their own tablet which will apparently come with 3D sensing capabilities as well. The tablet will be targeted at professionals such as surveyors, civil engineers, architects, and so on.
Dubbed EyesMap, the tablet will function similarly to Project Tango. The tablet will come equipped with a pair of 13MP sensors, a depth sensor, and GPS, all of which will allow the user to measure coordinates, surface, and volume of objects from as far as 70-80m. This means that users can use it to measure entire buildings, rooms, or even close up objects if that’s what they’re after.
The company believes that their tablet will be successful as it basically combines a variety of standalone tools into a single device. Speaking to TechCrunch, E-Captures’s Pedro Ortiz-Coder said, “To [survey small objects], a short range laser scanner is required but, a short-range LS cannot capture big or far away objects. That’s why we thought to create a definitive instrument, which permits the user to scan small objects, indoors, buildings, big objects and do professional works with a portable device.” The EyesMap tablet is expected to be made available at the start of 2015.
