LG G Stylus To Replace LG Vu Lineup [Rumor]

lg vu3 1 540x354When Samsung announced the Galaxy Note series a few years ago, LG decided to respond in kind later by announcing the LG Vu series of Android phablets. However the device did not exactly take off in the same way the Galaxy Note did, which we’re guessing might have to do with the odd shape which felt more square-ish than a smartphone should be like.

That being said, it seems that LG could soon be replacing the Vu lineup with the LG G Stylus lineup. This is according to the ever-reliable @evleaks who claims that will be the case. Unfortunately not much is known about the LG G Stylus lineup as it stands, but based on its name, presumably it will come bundled with a stylus which is pretty much standard fare with Samsung’s Galaxy Note series.

There’s also no word on when LG will announce the LG G Stylus lineup, but given that the LG Vu 3 was last announced in September 2013, we’re guessing that if and when LG were to announce the LG G Stylus, it could be roughly around that time as well. That and the fact that IFA 2014 will also taking place around that time will give LG a good opportunity to announce something new.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? What will the LG G Stylus have that will differentiate it from the competition, and possibly the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4?

LG G Watch Could Be Headed To Verizon As Well

lg g watch google io 2014 019 640x359As you might have heard by now, the LG G Watch is currently up for pre-order via Google Play. The watch is expected to ship in July but if you were looking for an alternate place to purchase the device, word on the street has it that the LG G Watch could soon be sold by Verizon as well. This is according to a recent post by @evleaks who claims that the LG G Watch will be offered by both Verizon and AT&T.

Previously AT&T had announced that they would be selling the LG G Watch, so we guess it’s not really that much of a stretch to think that other carriers could be interested in getting in on the action as well. Unfortunately it was not mentioned if the LG G Watch sold could be the rumored SIM-enabled version, but chances are it might just be the regular one.

Previous rumors have suggested that the LG G Watch could be gaining SIM functionality which would be pretty convenient for users who don’t want to pair it with their smartphone for connectivity, but a later rumor suggested that the SIM version of the LG G Watch could be exclusive to South Korea, at least for the time-being.

In any case Verizon has yet to make an official announcement regarding their plans to sell the LG G Watch, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and will update you guys on any announcements, prices, and release dates in the future!

LA School District To Trial Laptops And Hybrids In The Classroom

Remember when the LA School District announced an iPad buying program in which they would be handing out iPads to students who are part of their district? Well it looks like they are planning on expanding that program to include laptops and hybrid devices as well. This new program will be kicking off in the fall which will see teachers and students trial out a laptop program to see if it will be a good fit.

So why the change of heart? Why not tablets all the way? Well the answer is one size certainly does not fit all, at least as far as education is concerned. According to a LA school board member, Monica Ratliff who spoke to the LA Times, “Why would we treat all our students – whether they are a first-grader or a high school freshman – as if they all had the same technology needs? They don’t.”

It was also problems with the iPads that caused the school district to rethink its program. The tablets were meant for educational purposes, but students managed to figure out how to hack the iPads to allow it to be used for other things, like web surfing and gaining access to social media. There was also issue with educational materials being incomplete, which is why under the new program, materials from three different publishers will be trialed.

Steam Summer Sale Encore Day See 8 Million Concurrent Users

steam sale 640x278A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Valve’s Steam Summer sale had kicked off. The sale is expected to run until the 30th of June and if you’re wondering just how popular the sale was, or how many Steam users are actually active, the Steam Summer Sale Encore Day’s numbers might be able to clue you in.

According to the platform’s stat page (via NeoGAF), it was revealed that on the 29th of June, which is the Steam Summer Sale Encore Day, the platform had reached peak usage of a little over 8 million concurrent members, meaning that there were over 8 million Steam users who were on the service at the same time!

This broke the company’s previous record of concurrent users from back in December during the Christmas period. At that time, it was reported that there were over 7.5 million users during that period. A year earlier back in 2012, it was reported that Valve had broken the 6 million mark, so we can only imagine that number will most likely be increasing again during this year’s Christmas period.

The Steam Summer Sale will officially end of the 30th of June at 10AM PDT/7AM ET, so if you still have last minute purchases to make, you can do so now before the timer ends!

Nokia Job Listing Hints At Camera Development For Android Lineup

nokia x2 2 640x320When it comes to smartphone cameras, Nokia has been known for putting really good cameras out there, like with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Lumia 1520, for example. However with its Android offerings, like the recently announced Nokia X2, it seems that Microsoft/Nokia decided to go with something low-end instead.

However could things soon be changing? Could Microsoft be getting ready for a Nokia Android smartphone with a killer camera? Well that’s what a job listing by Nokia seems to suggest. According to the job listing, it calls for an individual who is familiar with designing camera drivers. Interestingly enough, one of the skills that Microsoft is looking forward in that individual is experience with developing for Android.

At the same time it seems that Microsoft could be looking for someone who can develop across platforms. Based on the job description, it reads, “The person we are looking for will take responsibility of designing and implementation of camera drivers for different camera solutions on variety of platforms.”

Based on that, we can only assume that Microsoft is looking for someone to develop camera solutions, and that it is possible that these camera solutions could be used in their Android devices. Of course all of this is merely speculation for now, but what do you guys think? Could Microsoft be looking to step up their Android efforts?
