Refreshed ASIMO is speedier and more intellectual

asimo_slashgearI always have a soft spot for Honda’s ASIMO – it is probably one of the most advanced “consumer” targeted robot. Honda keeps making improvements on ASIMO since it was introduce in the year 2000. The initial version, I recall; it was boxy, not flexible, slow, and was underpowered. Fast forward today, Honda has reached a new milestone with the … Continue reading

FirstUnion reveals range of disposable e-cigarettes

firstunionThose of us who are trying to quit the habit of smoking might have tried a fair number of ways in the past without any sign of success, but perhaps it might be worth exploring the e-cigarette method. After all, they not only look but feel and taste like conventional cigarettes, and FirstUnion have come up with a new range of disposable e-cigarettes that is capable of yielding immense vapour, a fresher taste and has a far more safer battery within at a more economical price. Not only that, there is a market for a disposable e-cigarette which does not expire, which is why FirstUnion has released a historic landmark innovative product that does not break the bank – while delivering thick vapour and a shelf-life that lasts more than two years.

This is made possible thanks to the use of new battery materials as well as an internal structure that is different from traditional electronic cigarettes, allowing it to release ultra-thick vapour even under the conditions of low voltage and self-discharge. This would make it the world’s first long-lasting disposable e-cigarette without looking any different from that of a conventional cigarette. Still, this is different from the Supersmoker Bluetooth e-cigarette since it does not answer your incoming calls.

Blackphone Fires Back At BlackBerry, Claims They Compromised On Security

blackphone 640x394Earlier this year, a smartphone called the Blackphone was announced. Just in case you are hearing about it for the first time, it is basically a smartphone that comes with a host of security features that will supposedly prevent the likes of the NSA from getting into your emails and messages, which is great for those who are particularly concerned about your privacy, or who might have sensitive work documents on their devices.

Unfortunately BlackBerry did not take the launch of the Blackphone too well, especially since security is one of the things that BlackBerry is known for, especially in the government and enterprise space. The Canadian company claimed that unlike their products, the Blackphone in inadequate for business, claiming that its security features were “inferior”.

Well based on a statement released by the company behind the device, SGP Technologies, it seems that they aren’t taking it lying down. According to them, they acknowledged BlackBerry’s contributions over the past few years, but at the same time claimed that the company had compromised on its integrity after governments had pressured them into revealing what was supposed to be secure and confidential messages.

“Unfortunately, the world discovered in 2010 that RIM was willing to compromise its integrity if sufficient pressure was applied by governments intent on spying on the messages sent via the ubiquitous devices. Various statements from the Saudi, UAE, Indian, and other telecom regulatory bodies all confirmed the same thing: RIM made it technically possible for the formerly-secret encrypted messages to be decrypted and viewed.”

They went as far as saying that it was “a betrayal of the objectives of privacy,” but what do you guys think? Does the Blackphone has what it takes to take on the likes of an established player such as BlackBerry? Or does BlackBerry make a good point themselves?

Sony Xperia Z3 (D6603) Spotted At The FCC

Sony Xperia Z2 01 640x426Based on Sony’s release schedule, there is a good chance that later this year we might be able to hear from Sony regarding a new flagship handset in the form of the Xperia Z3. Now we have seen alleged leaked photos but if you were looking for more proof, it seems that a certain Sony D6603 has been spotted at the FCC.

If you’re wondering what the Sony D6603 is, well according to previous rumors and speculation, the D6603 is apparently the Sony Xperia Z3, although we guess we don’t really have any way of proving that save for Sony themselves actually announcing it officially. That being said, at the very least we know that there is a Sony device at the FCC.

Unfortunately the FCC listing does not tell us much about the device, so apart from a sighting we guess we don’t really have much to go on. However based on the rumors, the Sony Xperia Z3 is expected to be a slightly more powerful version of the Xperia Z2 that was launched earlier this year.

It is said to feature a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and will apparently pack the same 20.7MP camera as its predecessor. Interestingly enough the rumors also claim that the Xperia Z3 will not be upgraded to a QHD display, so it looks like customers can expect the same Full HD display instead. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us later for more updates.

T-Mobile, Sprint Reportedly Pooling Resources To Bid On Spectrum

sprint tmobileWhile Sprint and T-Mobile are considered two of the major carriers in the US, other carriers such as AT&T and Verizon are much bigger, which is why it isn’t surprising that both companies have revealed their intentions to merge with one another, thus creating a more powerful entity in the process.

That being said, a recent report from Fortune has revealed that in the meantime and until the merger has been announced, both carriers are expected to work together to bid on spectrum that the FCC will be auctioning off in 2015. The report claims that T-Mobile and Sprint will be pooling their money together and raise as much as $10 billion to bid on the 600MHz spectrum that the FCC will be auctioning.

The $10 billion war chest is said to be part of the financing deal that Softbank is attempting to acquire in their bid to buy as much as 50% of T-Mobile’s shares, and for business reasons, both carriers are apparently allowed to act as a single entity, which we guess in some ways could be looked at as a preview of things to come if and when the merger is successful.

AT&T themselves have reportedly set aside $9 billion for the spectrum auction as well, so if the report is to be believed, T-Mobile and Sprint’s collective war chest would put them on even footing as the larger carrier. Verizon’s own budget has yet to be revealed.

Here's Another Way You Never Considered Peeling A Mango

Mangoes are tricky. They have really thin skin that is difficult to peel off and a huge, flat pit running right down the middle that gets in the way of everything. But a new food hack might have just convinced us that mangoes might not be as inaccessible as we once thought.

This video from “CrazyRussianHacker” shows you how to deal with a mango’s peel by using a glass. First you cut the fruit along its pit. Then you use the edge of a glass to separate the fruit from the peel. You simply place the rim where the skin meets the fruit, and push the mango down the side of the glass. The skin peels off in one piece. It’s as simple as that.

We’ve come across a few good tricks for cutting a mango, and we recently found an entirely new trick for peeling one, but this hack combines speed and efficiency in one easy move.

Watch the video above and let us know if you’ve discovered any other methods for battling the mighty mango.
