Brooks Wheelan Says He's 'Fired' From 'SNL'

Brooks Wheelan, one of six featured players hired by “Saturday Night Live” before the start of the show’s 39th season, will not return for Season 40. Wheelan tweeted the news on Monday:

When contacted by HuffPost Entertainment to confirm Wheelan’s ouster, an NBC representative said that neither the network nor show comment on casting changes. That “SNL” would see some turnover before its 40th season is no surprise: Back in June, executive producer Lorne Michaels told Deadline.com that cast adjustments were forthcoming.

“We’re still in the middle of rebuilding,” Michaels said. “So there will be changes this year.”

Wheelan was a stand-up comic before being hired by “SNL.” The 27-year-old was initially brought onto the show as a writer, but he became the sixth and final addition to the cast before the 39th season began. (Colin Jost and Sasheer Zamata were added as featured players during this past season.)

“Each step of the way I thought it was pretty neat that I had gotten this far, so I didn’t put too much pressure on myself in that way,” Wheelan told the Bellevue Reporter about auditioning for “SNL” in an interview published earlier this year. “As far as the audition itself, they saw me perform in Montreal, then in L.A., and then I auditioned on the stage where they shoot the show in New York. It was all scary, but I tried to [minimize that].”

During his stint as a “Saturday Night Live” featured player, Wheelan made a couple of appearances on Weekend Update. He recalled those moment and some of his other favorite memories in a video published by NBC at the close of the season.

As ScreenCrush.com senior editor Mike Ryan pointed out, however, Wheelan’s last appearance on “SNL” might have foreshadowed his exit.

Trust Me, Don't Trust The B In Apartment 23 Is Actually Worth A Watch

On July 19, Logo TV will air a marathon of ABC’s short-lived sitcom Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23, including eight episodes never aired during the original run. Why should you care? Because Don’t Trust The B was a funny, underrated show, despite its stupid title. It is not fair that it is gone and the wretched 2 Broke Girls persists, and we must collectively rectify that by watching it now.

Road trips get more fun with Felix RoadShow

felixI am not quite sure about you, but when I think of Felix, the first thing that comes to my mind would be the cartoon character Felix the Cat. However, this is not the case with Felix here, being the creator of clever and stylish accessories that will help you in your mobile life. In fact, Felix has just announced the availability of RoadShow, which so happens to be a sleek universal car stand which takes mere seconds to install, and even better news for wives who are married to husbands who have proved themselves to be absolutely useless when it comes to tools – the RoadShow can be installed without any kind of tools required, just a little bit of logic and the ability to follow instructions are just fine.

The RoadShow happens to be a smartly designed stand which can be used with any tablet, and it also delivers both portrait and landscape viewing thanks to its fully customizable features. Felix did perform a fair amount of research when it comes to car stands, and realized that existing ones are nothing but big, bulky, and definitely far from being aesthetically pleasing. This birthed the idea of RoadShow, which was specially built to create a stand that is quick and easy to set up, where it also complements the aesthetics of the vehicle itself.

RoadShow enables all users to access their favorite media on the road as long as their favorite tablet (like the new iPad) is attached and secured to it. You will be able to attach Roadshow to headrest posts that happen to be 8cm to 16.5cm apart, where the width can be adjusted as necessary prior to loading your tablet of choice, as it securely stretches the caps over your device and enjoy the ride. If you are interested in picking the RoadShow up, it retails for $39.95 a pop.

Israeli Doctors Treat Palestinian Children Born With Heart Defects

Despite the continued rocket fire persisting between Israel and Gaza, there is a glimmer of hope for unity among the warring sides.

Israeli doctors in Holon have been working to save the lives of Palestinian children born with heart defects. The Walla news website reported that when Operation Protective Edge began, seven children went to Holon to seek treatment at the Wolfson Medical Center, according to Haaretz.

“It does not matter what side of the political map you are on,” Dr. Akiva Tamir, the head of pediatric cardiology at Wolfson said. “The parents of these children want them to live – just like parents [in Israel].”

This is not the only circumstance in which the opposing sides have provided support for one another. This piece tells the story of how one Israeli man, Yuval Roth, has made it his life’s mission to provide transportation for Palestinian children seeking medical treatment in Israel.

Roth said his reasoning is simple for wanting to help: “If we won’t help them, they won’t get to the hospital.”
