Hulu Bags Exclusive Rights To All Seasons Of South Park

Competition between online video streaming services is now greater than ever before. These companies are dumping hundreds of millions of dollars in the production of original content, while sparing no expense in order to get exclusive streaming rights for some of the most watched content. For example Amazon recently inked a deal with HBO which gives it exclusive streaming rights for some of the cable giant’s popular shows. Hulu now has an exclusive deal to brag about as well, all 17 seasons of South Park will be available for streaming on Hulu Plus.

This was announced earlier in the week at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. Not only will Hulu Plus subscribers get access to all existing episodes of South Park on demand, they will also be able to stream new episodes just a day after they have been aired on Comedy Central.

While it wasn’t officially revealed how much this deal cost Hulu, The New York Times reports that it may have cost north of $80 million for all 240-plus episodes to be exclusive to Hulu.

South Park episodes have been available through different sources on the internet such as Hulu or Netflix and even SouthParkStudios.com. However as competition heats up exclusivity becomes more appealing. Craig Erwich who is the head of content at Hulu believes that this deal will help the service “cut through the clutter.”

Rival Militias Battle To Control International Airport In Libya's Capital

CAIRO (AP) — Rival militias battled Sunday for the control of the international airport in Libya’s capital, as gunfire and explosions echoed through the city and airlines canceled some international flights.

A member of a revolutionary battalion attached to Libya’s army chief of staff that took part in the battle said fierce fighting raged between Libyan forces and allied militias and a powerful militia from Zintan that controls the airport. Those living close by said troops surrounded the airfield and fired rockets at buildings inside. Thick columns of black smoke rose overhead and could be seen from downtown Tripoli. There were no immediate casualty figures from the fighting.

Authorities had said Saturday that the airport was to have been handed over into government control. The government largely relies on the same militias to police the streets as its security forces remain in disarray.

Libya has seen fierce fighting between rival militias since the 2011 civil war that toppled dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

Egypt’s national carrier EgyptAir said it canceled two flights Sunday to Tripoli as hundreds of travelers remained inside the airport waiting for it to re-open. Both British Airways and Turkish Airlines also canceled flights Sunday.

Fair Play for The Beautiful Game

As the 2014 World Cup draws to a close, now is the time to enter an era of good governance of the world’s most popular sport. That means FIFA, football’s governing body, must change to ensure this beloved sport is a force for good in the world.

The world has changed since the founding of FIFA in 1904. FIFA needs to reflect those changes and implement full reforms that ensure fair play both on and off the field.

We call on supporters, sponsors and national football associations to come together to ensure FIFA and football uplift all the communities where the game is played.

We ask for positive leadership at all levels, and we join the call for FIFA to:

Institute all of the reforms recommended by the Independent Governance Committee FIFA appointed in 2011, which has called FIFA’s reform process incomplete.

Appoint independent people from outside FIFA to the executive committee, and place a limit on how long top people can stay in power.

Publish, in full, the investigation into bribery allegations surrounding the voting for host countries for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

We call on host countries, sponsors and FIFA to implement accountability measures that incentivize and promote fairness and respect for all international norms and laws, including the rights of workers and local communities where World Cups are held.

By encouraging and supporting strong leadership from FIFA, for the good of the beautiful game, we can all help to build peaceful, healthy and equitable communities.

How Companies Scored Productivity Goals During The World Cup

World Cup television ratings scored huge points. Even as the U.S. went out of play, the World Cup achieved quarterfinal viewership records when Brazil defeated Colombia and Germany won over France. Considering that most matches were played during weekday afternoons in the U.S., this could have been bad news for business productivity. But for many, it wasn’t.

At Blue Jeans Network we like to think we know a thing or two about business communications and productivity. After all, our mission is to make face-to-face business collaboration easy, from any location. We analyzed meeting behavior during U.S. games to see how it measured up to a normal day. We found that meetings decreased by almost 20 percent when the U.S. played. While this data could signal a decrease in productivity, many savvy companies looked at the World Cup as an opportunity to actually boost employee engagement and build company culture. Here are a few simple guidelines that can help your company do the same for the rest of the World Cup and the occasional major event that takes place during the work day.

1. Give Employees Permission to Watch. As we know from the meeting data, many employees are watching events like the World Cup with or without your permission so go ahead and give it. Your employees will be grateful and happy that you appreciate the importance of these events. Make it clear that this permission comes with responsibility for the employee to schedule important projects around games and continue to meet important deadlines.

2. Have Fun and Build Company Culture. You’ve given permission to watch the events, now pair that fun with team building activities. Stream these events in a central place in the office to bring people together. Have different departments sponsor key games by providing treats or decor and have a team lead from each department kickoff the screening with an update on that department’s activities or recent accomplishments. Integrate employees that are working outside the company headquarters through video conferencing. Make friendly wagers with your overseas colleagues and send fun facts and memes around the office surrounding the events.

3. Provide Tools for Flexible Work and Collaboration. If you encourage a flexible work environment, give your team the tools they need to be successful at collaborating. Make sure employees have access to technologies like video, chat and other collaboration tools so they are able to maximize productivity and stay connected with their teams, no matter where they are.

4 See Your Team For Maximized Results. World-class teams practice together in order to achieve team chemistry and work as a seamless unit. In the business world, face-to-face communication is also critical, as a recent survey of business professionals found that 71 percent believe they lost a sales deal due to a lack of face time. Face-to-face drive better personal connections, help with memory recall and reveals important body language.

Rather than being a productivity drain, the World Cup has been a point of engagement and connection for many businesses and employees alike. Now it’s time to apply these these tips and lessons learned to the next major event to foster company excitement and relationship building that results in a happy and productive workplace.

Jeane Harrington Allegedly Killed Husband With Restaurant-Grade Plastic Wrap

AVON LAKE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman who called 911 to report that her husband committed suicide by suffocating himself has been charged with his 2011 murder.

A three-year investigation into the death of 55-year-old Michael Gabel concluded that he didn’t commit suicide and that his wife, Jeane Harrington, had killed him, police said. She had reported Gabel’s death to police, saying she found him dead with plastic wrap around his head. “We know that suicide in this manner is very unusual,” Duane Streator, police chief of Avon Lake, told reporters Friday.

Streator said there was no immediate evidence of a struggle, but the Lorain County coroner ultimately determined Gabel died of asphyxiation, blows to his head and body, and electrical burns.

Harrington, 56, was arrested Thursday, and her son — 11 when Gabel died — was turned over to a relative.

In the 911 call, Harrington had reported that Gabel, a local car salesman, left a suicide note, and she described heavy debts coming due, suggesting he’d taken his own life.

Harrington told police she owned a stun gun and had used it several times on Gabel in a fight earlier that evening that she described as “mutual.” She said the disagreement centered on the couple’s financial woes.

“He got a letter from the Internal Revenue Service the other day wanting $17,000,” Harrington said during the call. “And then the following day he got a letter from some collection company wanting $16,000. And tomorrow they’re supposed to sell our home at sheriff’s auction.”

Harrington said she last saw her husband alive at 2 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2011, when he walked from the den to the bathroom. She found his cold body on a sofa later that morning after she returned from errands, she said.

Authorities now believe she stunned Gabel multiple times before suffocating him with industrial-strength, restaurant-grade plastic wrap.

It wasn’t immediately clear who is currently representing Harrington. A message was left for a lawyer who represented her in 2005 during divorce proceedings, which ended in reconciliation, and with another lawyer who represented her in a 2007 foreclosure case.

Divorce filings indicated Harrington’s pay at the Avon Public Library gift shop had been halved and that Gabel had used money from a 401(k) account and from mortgaging the couple’s rental property to pay gambling debts.

Streator said police had been called to the couple’s address before on domestic issues.

This Island's Prime Minister Is Going On A Hunger Strike

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — Aruba’s prime minister and several legislators have launched a hunger strike to protest what they say is meddling by the Dutch government in local financial affairs.

The group gathered Friday outside the governor’s offices in the capital of Oranjestad, where they spent the night with an ambulance and medical team on standby. “We stand together with the people to defend our autonomy,” parliamentarian Desiree Croes said.

The hunger strike comes after the Dutch government asked Aruba’s governor to hold off on signing the 2014 budget into law pending an evaluation of it. The Dutch Caribbean island, which approved the budget two weeks ago, is facing a major deficit and its national debt represents 75 percent of its GDP.

Aruba Prime Minister Mike Eman said he considered the Dutch request a direct attack on Aruba’s autonomy and said he will continue the hunger strike until the governor signs the budget.

Others participating in the strike echoed the sentiment.

“There is no time limit to support the fight for our autonomy,” said Tourism and Transportation Minister Otmar Oduber.

Aruba is part of the Netherlands’ kingdom, but it obtained autonomy in internal affairs in 1986. It manages its own finances, although the Dutch government is responsible for upkeep of sound management.

Colbie Caillat Rallies Against Photoshop In 'Try' Music Video

In her music video for “Try,” Colbie Caillat takes a stance against Photoshop. She starts off the video looking like (as MTV put it) “a cartoonized version of Mariah Carey in a Dove ad” and proceeds to un-Photoshop herself, ending the song as her natural, unedited self, alongside a wonderfully diverse set of women, who undergo the same transition.

“When I shot the first scene with no hair and makeup on in front of an HD camera in my face, flashed with bright lights, everyone was watching,” she told Elle. “I thought, ‘Oh my god, I bet they’re all looking at my blemishes, thinking that I should cover them up, or that I should put some volume in my hair.’ But it also felt really cool to be on camera with zero on, like literally nothing on. And then when it got to the full hair and makeup, I actually felt gross. I was just so caked on.”

Watch the video above and remember to take off your fake eyelashes before you start tearing up over how beautiful it is.

Eric Holder Bashes Sarah Palin, Dismisses Call For Obama Impeachment

Attorney General Eric Holder hit back hard on Sunday at former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who recently called for the impeachment of President Barack Obama.

Speaking with Pierre Thomas on ABC News’ “This Week,” Holder took a swing at Palin, dismissing her credentials for making such a statement.

“She wasn’t a particularly good vice presidential candidate,” Holder said. “She’s an even worse judge of who ought to be impeached and why.”

Palin issued her call for Obama to be impeached Tuesday in a column on Breitbart.com, comparing Obama to an abusive spouse and writing, “The many impeachable offenses of Barack Obama can no longer be ignored.”

Dead Body Falls Out Of Coroner Van, Lands On Road

FEASTERVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A dead body on a gurney fell out of a coroner’s van when a door malfunctioned, sending the corpse into the middle of a busy roadway in Pennsylvania.

The Bucks County Courier Times (http://bit.ly/1rhI80E ) reports the accident happened around noon on Friday near a shopping center in Feasterville, Pennsylvania. A photo on the newspaper’s website shows the corpse, wrapped in what appears to be a white sheet, lying in the street as cars buzz by. The Bucks County Coroner’s Office says the driver realized immediately that the door had opened and retrieved the body within minutes. The office says it “deeply regrets” the incident.

A passer-by who helped get the body into the van says he thought it was a prank, calling it “the most bizarre thing” he’d ever seen.
