The e-cigarette lobby won a little victory today, when the American Heart Association issued a policy statement that does not condemn vaping. That’s not exactly an endorsement, though.
You can only experience so much of a place by poking around it in Google Maps, and that’s why Amplifon, a hearing aid company from the UK (seriously), put together a little getaway-in-a-browser called Sounds of Street View. The name really says it…
Finally, there’s a device with a spec sheet that’ll let you feel good about leaving your other phone elsewhere. Enter the noPhone: a solid brick of plastic that stands in at the size and weight comparable to any of those popular handsets. What’s…
HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 Review
Posted in: Today's ChiliDoes business-friendly have to mean boring? HP is hoping the answer to that is no, with the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 promising the dependability of an enterprise notebook with some of the style borrowed from the company’s consumer ultrabook range. It’s a tough balance to strike, though, so has HP got the mixture right? Hardware and Design “Business” used to … Continue reading
Woopsie – looks like you just launched a satellite into the wrong flight path. When you work for the ESA (European Space Agency) and you accidentally launch a satellite into the wrong orbit around the Earth, you report it, and you make a big deal about it. In this case, the team is “examining the implications.” There are thousands of … Continue reading
One of the neat things about wearables are their ability to give you data about your life and habits. Making personal data available and pertinent is why we enjoy wearable tech, but what if it can be used on a broader scale? Jawbone recently shared data about Bay Area users’ sleep patterns to show the effect an earthquake can have … Continue reading
More iPhone 6 Renders Leaked
Posted in: Today's ChiliSay what you want about the iPhone 6, it is still going to generate a whole lot of attention, that is for sure. It might not achieve the level of success that previous iPhones might have, but there will still be a whole lot of people who would want to own one of these bad boys. While leaks and rumors of the iPhone 6 are numerous in nature, there must come a time when something official would make it past all security failsafes, to keep the masses wanting more. The iPhone 6 is no different, being an extremely high profile handset so here we are with a new set of rendered leaks. Do enjoy a photo gallery of the iPhone 6 renders in the extended post.
These images happen to be the handiwork of a couple of Argentinian design students, namely Tomas Moyano and Nicolàs Aichino. It appears that the renders were re-used by China Telecom that we talked about just yesterday. These renders were created based on known quantities of leaks and rumors to date, and hence, they are far from being official, although it would not be too far off the mark to figure out that when the iPhone 6 finally arrives, it ought to bear a close resemblance.

Acer intends to further enlarge their market and territory with the launch of the Acer Liquid X1, which is a relatively large sized smartphone that will clearly place it in the realm of phablets. This particular phablet was announced in June earlier this year, where the Acer Liquid X1 is right now available exclusively in Taiwan, although work is being done to roll it out in other markets all over Europe and Asia.
The Acer Liquid X1 will be powered by Android 4.4 KitKat, where it will also feature a 5.7” IPS display at 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution, and an 8.5mm thin chassis that tips the scales at 164 grams. The asking price for the Acer Liquid X1 would be approximately $265 after conversion, and it will surely not harm Acer’s case to make its way to being the top five smartphone vendors – in Taiwan of course, within the coming two years.
The Acer Liquid X1 will arrive in black and red colors, sporting LTE Cat. 4 connectivity, an octa-core 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and a 2,700 mAh removable battery. At the back lies a 13MP camera which sports an f/1.8 aperture, an LED flash, and a Free Focus mode.

HTC Desire 820 “Confirmed”
Posted in: Today's ChiliAll smartphones would need on a really catchy name in order for it to make advancements in the market, despite having the best hardware specifications that are in the market at the moment. The thing is, getting the right name can prove to be rather tricky, and HTC continues to tease us with the “820” moniker as you can tell by the infographic-of-sorts on the right hand side. It points out the different kinds of achievements that HTC has managed to arrive at over the years where smartphones are concerned, and the last of it being a rather prophetic “820”, so to speak.
The HTC Desire 820 happens to be the name that many suspect this particular smartphone will come in, and it will also carry the distinction of being the first 64-bit Android-powered smartphone in the market. Heck, even Qualcomm has more or less acknowledged the fact that this upcoming smartphone will be the first of its kind to make use of Qualcomm’s very own octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC.
The Snapdragon 615 processor happens to come in the form of an upper mid-range CPU which will make use of a quartet of Cortex-A53 cores that have been clocked at 1.8GHz, while another four Cortex-A53 cores will be clocked at 1GHz. We do look forward to IFA 2014 with bated breath, as that is most probably when the HTC Desire 820 will be announced.

Meizu MX4 Spotted In The Wild
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Meizu MX4, a smartphone that is slated to roll out later this September (which is not too far away, really), and having picked up an extremely stunning AnTuTu benchmark score, has been spotted in the wild yet again. This time round, we have a trio of images for your perusal, where you can check out the remaining two right after the jump.
The Meizu MX4 happens to be a rounded looking handset that will arrive with a metal chassis, where a couple of MX4 models are said to be in the pipeline. For starters, there will be a “Pro” model that is touted to feature a 5.5” display with a rather strange resolution count of 1,536 x 2,560 pixels, while there are also whispers of an Exynos 5433 processor accompanied by 3GB RAM, a 20.7MP camera at the back, and an 8MP selfie shooter.
As for the standard model itself, it ought to arrive with a 5” display at Full HD resolution, alongside an Exynos 5430 processor, 3GB RAM, and a price tag of $406. Not exactly the most affordable of all smartphones that are about to be released in the market, but it will have to do for the moment. Perhaps that mentioned asking price happens to be a red herring? Only time will be able to tell.
