Moto X+1 Rumored To Feature Camera With Optical Zoom, 3D UI

MOTO X OLD NEW WHITE 640x311If the rumors are to be believed, there is a good chance the Motorola could be taking the wraps off the Moto X+1 on the 4th of September. So far we have heard some rumors about the handset’s specs, such as its HD display, quad-core processor, and a 13MP rear-facing camera. However thanks to a recent post by Hellomotohk, additional details about the handset have surfaced.

Hellomotohk has had a pretty decent track record for rumors, although their recent claims do seem a little dubious but as is with the case with all rumors, you should probably take it with a grain of salt for now. That being said, Hellomotohk claims that not only will the Moto X+1 feature an optical zoom for its camera, but it is also expected to feature a 3D UI similar to that of the Amazon Fire Phone.

Given that the Moto X featured a UI which was pretty close to stock Android, it does seem weird that Motorola would be jumping the gun and going for something completely new with the Moto X+1. However we suppose at the time of the Moto X’s release, Motorola Mobility was still part of Google.

However with Google selling Motorola Mobility to Lenovo, perhap Motorola Mobility’s new owner has something else in mind. Like we said it’s the claims are a little dubious to approach it with some skepticism, but what do you guys think? Would a 3D UI suit a handset like the Moto X+1?

WhatsApp Boasts 600 Million Active Users

whatsapp logo newWhen it comes to instant messenger services and apps out there, it is safe to say that WhatsApp has to be one of the more popular apps/services around at the moment. After all their success and potential to grow even more is probably one of the reasons why Facebook was interested in acquiring them in the first place, right?

That being said, the last time we checked, WhatsApp had managed to hit the 500 million active user mark, but now thanks to a tweet by WhatsApp’s Jan Koum, it seems that the company has since managed to add an extra 100 million active users from then until now, which we have to admit is a pretty impressive feat.

This brings WhatsApp’s total active users to a whopping 600 million, and at the rate they are growing, we can’t say that we will be surprised when the day comes that they will hit the 1 billion mark, although we reckon that could still take a while. Unfortunately while WhatsApp appears to be in the lead, they are facing some stiff competition.

Earlier this year, China’s Tencent’s WeChat app had managed to boast over 300 million active users, although recent reports have suggested that the number is now at 438 million users, with most of them being from China. However apart from WeChat, it seems that other services don’t come particularly close. Tango has about 70 million active users, while Viber can only boast around 100 million.

Huawei’s Boss Doesn’t Think Tizen Will Be A Success

samsung tizen mwcOne of the reasons why Samsung has started to focus a bit more on its Tizen operating system is because they are trying not to be too dependent on Google for their success. Given that Android is currently one of the more dominating platforms at the moment, with Samsung contributing to that, safe to say that if Google were to suddenly stop supporting Android or start charging a fee to use its software, Samsung could be in big trouble.

Now Samsung’s Tizen phones have yet to become mainstream, although the platform has made its debut in Samsung’s smartwatches like the Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and so on, but is it possible that one day Tizen could become as big as Android or iOS? We’re sure that’s what Samsung is hoping for, but unfortunately not everyone feels that way.

According to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, they interviewed Huawei’s boss, Richard Yu, who expressed that Tizen had no chance of being a success. In fact at one point in time, Huawei was researching Samsung-made software, but Yu claims to have since shut it down.

As for their reliance on Google for their smartphone software, Yu states that he is concerned but apparently they do not have a choice at the moment, and that while a homegrown operating system would be easy to make, it’s the building of an ecosystem around it that makes it a challenge.

Google Play Store Refund Window Reportedly Extended To 2 Hours

google play store 4.4Let’s say you’ve downloaded an app and you realize that you don’t like it for whatever reason – maybe it did not deliver on its promise or maybe you realized that it wasn’t a very smart purchase. With Google, Android users normally get a 15 minute window in which they are able to ask for a refund, however according to Android Police, it seems that Google might have extended that refund window to 2 hours.

We have to admit that 2 hours does sound a lot better since you get to try an app for a longer time, as opposed to 15 minutes where you might not be able to fully appreciate the app in such a short time frame. Android Police tested out their findings by purchasing an app and then finding out that the option to refund the app was still available after 16 minutes. However once it had crossed the 2 hour mark, the refund button was gone.

However Google has not mentioned the 2 hour window in its Play Store support page, suggesting that they have not yet updated the page or if they were simply testing the feature and are still undecided on whether they should make it permanent. When Android Police reached out to Google, they replied with “[We] only advertise a 15-minute refund window, that is the guaranteed window for a user, but [we] do extend the window in some cases to account for download times.”

In any case until Google makes it official, we suggest that perhaps you adhere to the 15 minute refund window, unless you’re feeling a bit adventurous and don’t mind going beyond 15 minutes to see if the 2 hour window is still available.

Man Sends Porn To Police, Gets Arrested

facebook whatsapp icons 1We’re sure that it has happened to us at least once, where we have sent a message to someone we thought was a friend, only to find out that we got the wrong number. Sometimes the contents of the message can be a bit revealing and embarrassing, but usually after a brief bout of embarrassment, we get over it.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for a man in India who had repeatedly sent the Delhi police pornography via WhatsApp. The Delhi police had setup a WhatsApp account earlier this month where local residents could send in messages to help report corruption, along with audio or video clips to support their case.

However one man had decided to send pornography to the WhatsApp account, but here’s the funny thing, after the first message had been sent, the police replied by advising him to not send such messages to the number in the future. Presumably he had the wrong number and that the contents was intended for someone else.

Despite the warning, the man sent two more messages before he was arrested. He claims that his intentions were to alert the police about the porn industry in hopes that they might put a stop to it, which admittedly does make sense. That being said apart from this little hiccup, reports have suggested that the helpline has been a success and has since led to several investigations of corruption.
