Reuters has brought word that the upcoming flagship smartphone from Sony, which will continue in the tradition of the Xperia Z series, is aptly called the Sony Xperia Z3, and this particular smartphone looks set to be made available over on Sprint later this year. Apparently, this is going to be made possible as Sony and Softbank Corp, where the latter happens to be the Japan-based owner of Sprint, have managed to arrive at an agreement. Should this particular rumor turn out to be true, then it would certainly mark the first time that Sprint will offer a Sony-branded device, especially since it used to be T-Mobile that had such exclusivity in the past.
Did the departure of the previous Sprint CEO, Dan Hesse, have anything to do with such a potential change? Who knows? The new CEO Marcelo Claure, had already mentioned that Sprint will have to take the painful measures of retrenchment and price cuts if it were to be able to maintain a presence in the mobile carrier industry as well as maintain Sprint’s current market position. To enhance their collection of smartphones available to the masses might be a step in the right direction, what more with a reputable name like Sony that delivers premium waterproof devices.

If at first you do not succeed, try again. I suppose it is in that spirit of adventure and perseverance that has led Google to be the company that it is today. While there has been plenty of hits with Google and its services/products before, this does not mean that there are no misses at all. In fact, yet another particular Google service known as Google Authorship has bitten the dust – having been around for a mere three years.
When it first launched, Google Authorship showed the face of the person (if a profile picture was uploaded earlier on, that is) beside whatever they have written on a website that was tied to said person’s Google+ account. Earlier this June, there was no more showing off of the author’s profile picture because Mountain View wanted to bring together both mobile and desktop experiences. Efforts to see this intention to be realized eventually discovered that having Authorship snippets took up too much space on a smartphone’s screen, which was why that was dispensed way with.
However, Google Authorship is officially pushing up daisies now as Google Webmaster Trends Analyst John Mueller has more or less made mention of its passing. Apparently, this particular feature failed to work as Google intended among its users, which means Google Reader would have some company now in the digital afterlife. Except for one thing – I found Google Reader to be infinitely more helpful than Google Authorship, how about you?

Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC looks all set to make an announcement over at IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany, for their upcoming 64-bit-capable smartphone, which has been given the nickname Desire 820 by many quarters. Of course, with an impending announcement next week, it goes without saying that there will be plenty of rumors and speculation going about concerning the device, and the latest one would hail from@upleaks that touted how the HTC Desire 820 will arrive with an MSM-8916 chipset, which is actually the quad-core Snapdragon 410, being a 64-bit processor.
Apart from that, it was also revealed by @upleaks that the HTC Desire 820 will also arrive with a 5.5” display at 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, an 8MP front-facing camera that ought to shoot razor sharp selfies, a 13MP camera at the back, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and a 2,600 mAh battery to keep it running the entire day. Taken with a pinch of salt, the final hardware specifications might still differ, but assuming all of the mentioned turns out to be true, then the HTC Desire 820 is certainly not too far ahead of the HTC Desire 816. If my memory serves me right, the HTC Desire 816 managed to pick up a fair number of positive vibes from users, and hopefully the HTC Desire 820 will be able to follow suit.

The X-Men is a hugely successful comic book franchise, and one of the beloved characters would be Wolverine. Sporting a nigh indestructible adamantium skeleton and a healing factor that is the envy of many, will we humans ever be able to obtain such a healing factor somewhere down the line? Perhaps, as DARPA has just received close to $80 million of funding in order to research the possibility of enhancing the body’s natural self healing and immunity system. In other words, augmented humans that will be healthier and are able to ward off viruses and bacteria from causing havoc in their bodies at a far more successful rate than the average Joe on the street.
Apart from that, such an implant would also come in handy to treat mental health complaints, including the likes of post traumatic stress disorder. DARPA intends for this implant to be very small – so much so that it should not be thicker than a nerve fiber, making the implant process extremely convenience. The moment the implant is in one’s body, it will kick in, keeping track of your nervous system, organs and overall health, and counteracting anything which would upset the balance by triggering the right responses via electrical impulses. I don’t mind being a next generation human, actually. How about you? [Press Release]

Like Amazon, it appears Google has been mulling the use of drones to deliver goods. The company recently unveiled its Project Wing, a system that uses drones with the goal of delivering goods within two minutes after an order is placed. That’s a beam saber to the heart of courier companies.
According to The Atlantic, Google has been working on Project Wing for two years now. Its current drone prototype is a small tail-sitter – an aircraft that takes off and lands on its tail, similar to rocket spacecraft. Unlike Amazon’s drone, which drops almost to the ground to deliver its payload, Project Wing’s drone uses a winch to lower its cargo. Google resorted to this method as a safety precaution, but it also presents its own set of problems, such as the winch being stuck or tangled. To counter these problems, Google added an “egg” at the end of the winch that “detects that it has reached the ground, releases the delivery, and signals that it should be cranked back up.”
Have your browser deliver you to The Atlantic for the full story of Project Wing. It’s still very early days for the project and for mass mobilization of drones in general, even if you just consider the legal hoops that such a system would have to go through. Google still has time to develop Project Wing Zero and Project Wing Zero Custom.
