Nokia HERE Maps Arrive On Android

here androidIt was just yesterday when we talked about how Samsung’s Gear smartwatch range would be able to take advantage of Nokia’s HERE services, and here we are with another interesting news update that will surely have Samsung smartphone owners sit up and take notice – even if you do not own a Samsung smartwatch from the Gear family. I am referring to the official announcement from Nokia concerning HERE Maps on the Android platform, where it will be exclusively available for the collection of Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Yup, you read that right – Nokia has finally delivered HERE Maps to Android, and it would be the Samsung Galaxy smartphone range that will benefit from this move first. HERE Maps on Android will bring along with it features such as turn-by-turn navigation for pedestrians as well as other functionalities that one would be familiar with if you happened to have used HERE before.

No doubt offline navigation would be one feature that is looked forward to, especially for those who do a whole lot of traveling and do not want to invest in a dedicated GPS navigation device, but rather, to rely on their smartphones and the device’s integrated GPS. Offline maps means you no longer have to settle for expensive data roaming bills on your Google Maps, as it gets you from point A to point B within a selected pre-saved radius for free as not a single byte is downloaded. Just make sure you do your homework beforehand!

It remains to be seen whether HERE Maps for Android will appear on other brands that run on the Android platform. [Press Release]

NVIDIA Shield Gaming Tablet With 4G LTE Arrives On The FCC

shield fccFolks over at the FCC have one pretty interesting aspect about their job – they are able to play with all of the latest devices before it even hits the market, just to make sure that nothing is amiss for the masses. However, when you are faced with a sub-par device, then the job can get rather boring or tedious. Having said that, I am quite sure that they would not have had any issues with the NVIDIA Shield gaming tablet with 4G LTE connectivity, as this particular tablet had just passed through the FCC.

Touted to retail for $399 a pop when it finally hits the market, here are some details on this 4G LTE enabled device – this version of the NVIDIA Shield Tablet will be an 8” Android-powered tablet that sports an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, not to mention placing a strong emphasis on gaming. Apart from that, it will have double the internal storage space compared to the Wi-Fi only model, sporting 32GB of internal memory apart from the aforementioned 4G LTE connectivity. Hopefully it will not have the cracked edges issue that we talked about earlier this week.

Hardware specifications of the NVIDIA Shield gaming tablet with 4G LTE include an 8” display at 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA’s 2.2GHz ARM Cortex-A15 quad-core processor with 192-core Kepler graphics, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, an HDMI output, and support for 4K HD video playback. A microSD memory card slot is there in case you want to boost its storage, while a microSIM card slot would give you the power of picking your own network provider to take advantage of its 4G LTE capability.

Toshiba Chromebook CB30-007 Announced

toshiba chromebook cb30 007When it comes to Chromebooks, these are not exactly computing devices that will actually light up the consumer electronics market, unless you are one who is always on the lookout for a decent computer that does all of the bare basics – surfing the Internet and doing some word processing from time to time, without having to break the bank. Well, here is something from Toshiba that might just fit the bill perfectly – the Toshiba Chromebook CB30-007, which is a 13” Bay Trail laptop.

Needless to say, the Toshiba Chromebook CB30-007 would be the latest Chromebook that hails from this Japanese hardware manufacturer. When you take a first look at it, it is similar to the model that Toshiba released earlier in 2014, but that particular model came with an Intel Celeron 2955 Haswell processor, while this latest bad boy would arrive with a lower-power Celeron N2830 Bay Trail chip.

Appearing in Australia first, it would not surprise anyone if the Toshiba Chromebook CB30-007 were to eventually make its way to the U.S. as well as on the Old Continent. Apart from the dual-core Intel Celeron N2830 processor, it will feature a 13.3” 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB RAM, and 16GB of internal memory. The RAM remains as it is from the day of purchase, so you’re pretty much maxed out there.

This is a bed that would give Ronald McDonald pleasant dreams – just in case his trillions of dollars don’t help him sleep at night.

bed of fries 620x483magnify

It’s called the Supersize Bed. because it is brightly colored to look like a french fry carton. The headboard is in fact a huge carton of french fries. Wait. It gets even better. Those fries in the carton? They are removable cushions that you can sleep and cuddle with, without getting all greasy and salty.

This bizarre bed is a collaboration between set and costume designer Cecilia Carey and “architectural foodsmith” Harry Parr of Bompas & Parr. All it needs is a heat lamp.

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my fries will keep,
If they wilt before I wake,
I pray the Lord my mom will take… me to McDonalds.
