The Meta M1 is smart and stylish watch

Meta M1

There are so many smartwatches and activity trackers on the market that it can be a bit overwhelming if you’re thinking about getting one. Almost all of them do the same few tasks, and it comes down to getting the most out of it for the cheapest price, and looking visually pleasing to you. Of course, if you care more about aesthetics, and money isn’t an issue, then you’re likely a tad more picky about what you want showing off on your wrist.

If you like tossing twenties out the window while driving down the landing strip for your private jet, then you probably enjoy purchasing normal items at an extremely high price. The Meta M1 smartwatch doesn’t have a lot to say tech-wise, but it definitely looks beautiful. It has a bit of an industrial look to it, with the brown and gold options looking a bit more steampunk in nature. The LCD display is monochrome, and the face can change should you wish it to be so.

This is slightly water resistant, and has a battery that will last 5-7 days. It uses Bluetooth 4.0 and will work with 100s of apps. The style of strap can be metal, leather, or rubber. As it was stated previously, you’re going to have to own a decent chunk of disposable income, as the basic model of this is $249, and goes up to $449. If you’re wanting functionality, there are hundreds of options out there that will cost less, but aesthetically-speaking this one is pretty snazzy.

PlayStation TV Release Date For Europe Confirmed

playstation tv 640x524

If your console is connected to one TV in the house and you want to extend your gaming experience to another TV, there has to be another way apart from spending a few hundred dollars on a second console. Sony came to the rescue of PlayStation fans with the PlayStation TV. Originally unveiled back in 2013 as the PS Vita TV, this device is capable of extending the game experience on an additional screen.

Sony reintroduced this microconsole as the PlayStation TV back at E3 2014. It lets gamers stream their PlayStation 4 games to another TV in the house. Gamers will be able to enjoy just about every title using the PlayStation TV apart from titles that require PlayStation Camera.

The microconsole also supports Sony’s PlayStation Now game streaming service which will allow them to stream PlayStation 3 games on the PlayStation TV. The service is currently in open beta so if it doesn’t run smoothly, keep an open mind.

Sony confirmed at Gamescom today that PlayStation TV will be released in Europe and across the PAL region on November 14th for for €99. That won’t be all, alongside the microconsole, Sony will also include three titles, OlliOlli, Worms Revolution Extreme and Velocity Ultra.

November 14th is the exact date on which this device was initially released in Japan last year. It took Sony one year to bring the PlayStation TV to Europe, but better late than never.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha LTE-Advanced Variant Rumored

galaxy alpha leak

If you follow technology news regularly then by now you must have heard about the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Its a completely new device that the company is expected to launch in the very near future, possibly even tomorrow. One of its biggest features is that it has a metal frame instead of plastic. A report published today claims that there will be a LTE-Advanced variant of the Galaxy Alpha and its possible that this variant will be released in a select few markets.

Galaxy Alpha model SM-G850F is said to tout LTE-Advanced capabilities. For this to work the device would require a Qualcomm chip and rumor has it that this variant might be powered by the Snapdragon 805.

On the other hand the variants that Samsung is expected to widely distribute are said to be powered by the company’s own Exynos processor. Its also expected to have 2GB RAM, 32GB and 64GB models, 12 megapixel rear camera and a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display.

The reason why the Galaxy Alpha LTE-Advanced variant will be available in limited markets is because there are only a handful of carriers out there that have working LTE-A networks. What use would a LTE-A variant have if its in a market where there’s no compatible network. Most likely South Korea will be the first market to receive the SM-G850F, provided that this report turns out to be true.

Lots of interesting information has come out today from Gamescom. Sony revealed during its event that the PlayStation 4 has sold ten million units around the globe. It also confirmed the release date of PlayStation TV in Europe. There was some talk of Destiny as well, Bungie’s new title bank rolled by Activision to the tune of $500 million. The first Destiny multiplayer expansion pack was shown off today and its release confirmed for this December.

The expansion pack is called The Dark Below and it will be available for Destiny players this December. Bungie has added a new map called Blue Exodus that will only be exclusive to Destiny players on PS4.

Unfortunately Bungie didn’t say what this expansion pack will include and how much will it cost when it finally becomes available after a few months. Since there is considerable time remaining its likely that Bungie will reveal this information in the near future.

However the developer did release a new trailer which shows off the title’s Crucible multiplayer modes that will be playable at launch. Skirmish, Salvage, Rumble, Clash, Control and Combined Arms are the initial multiplayer modes.

Destiny just ended its beta run and the developer confirmed that players won’t be able to carry their progress forward. Its possible to pre-order the title now before it formally launches on September 9th.

I See You There, Judging My Child

I see you there, shaking your head in silent judgment as my son argues with me in public.

I see you there, making a face and rolling your eyes when my son doesn’t behave the way society expects him to behave in public places.

I see you there, telling your son not to play with, or talk to, my son because you think he’s a bad kid, a disrespectful kid, a problem kid.

My son doesn’t notice you, he’s too busy to be concerned by what other people think of him, but I notice you. I see the judgment on your face.

Do you think that I can’t see you?  Do you think that somehow I love my child less than you love yours because God made him special? Do you think that somehow you and your child are better than me and my child because you don’t have the same issues that we do?

Do you know how hard it is for me to remain silent when I see you judging my child? Do you know how badly I want to call you out in front of everyone here and say, “I see you! I see you judging us!”, but unlike my son, I am hesitant to make a scene. More importantly, he hasn’t noticed you yet and I’d prefer he never does. I’d prefer he never realize that some people judge him and find him lacking in some way. He is perfectly happy with who he is, he’s perfectly content in his own skin, he doesn’t think he has any issues at all. I’d prefer to keep it that way for as long as possible.

Every person on this planet has some kind of issue. Perfection is an illusion. It just may be that your flaw is judging other people. It’s definitely a flaw, to be clear, it’s just unclear if that is your only one.

There are a lot of things about my child that you don’t see. You don’t know that he loves me with his whole heart, without reservation and without hesitation. You don’t see that he is fiercely protective of people that he loves and he would be deeply upset to know that you had upset me with your actions. You don’t see that he is an amazing student and gets fantastic grades at school. You don’t see that sometimes he frustrates me beyond belief, but he is my child and I love him just as fiercely as he loves me. You don’t see that he is very funny! That his unique perspective, and view of life, combined with the fact that he has no hesitation to point out anything he notices often makes me laugh until I have tears rolling down my face. You don’t see that he feels things deeper than most people, that includes both joy and hurt.

No, you don’t see any of that because you don’t care. All you care about is that he is talking a little too loudly for your taste. That he is distracted by a piece of fuzz on his shirt when he should be listening. That he is emotional at times, and gets upset easily. Because of these things you’ve decided he’s a bad kid, that he’s unintelligent, and that he’s not worthy of your time or attention.

Guess what? You are not worthy of mine either. I choose him a thousand times over spending two seconds with you. I choose spending time with a thousand people just like him over spending any time at all with one person like you.

Do you know why?

He is honest, he is authentic, and he doesn’t judge other people. He has empathy, he has compassion, and he cares about other people. He is always working to be the best that he can be, and he doesn’t waste his time, his life, on looking down at other people. He’s enjoying his life and he is enjoying everything that crosses his path.

Don’t you wish you could say the same?

Air Disasters Will Not Stop Travelers From Flying

As a travel agency owner at the time, I will never forget lying in bed on Monday morning, Sept 11, 2002, watching the World Trade Center go down in Manhattan. Clearly, it was one of the worse days of my life. As much as air travel was affected by this cowardly act of terrorism, by January, people were again boarding planes and traveling the world.

Recent studies show that 1 out of 10 Americans are afraid of flying. With the most recent disasters in 2014, it is surprising that the number is not higher. On March 8, 2014, a Malaysian Airlines flight left Kuala Lumpur en route to Beijing, and it literally disappeared. To this day, the whereabouts of the aircraft are sketchy at best.

Since, the March 8 incident, one could call 2014, “The year of flying dangerously.” In fact in the last 45 days, there have been enough air mishaps to frighten even the most fearless flyer.

On June 24, 2014: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), A310-300, AP-BGN, flight PK756, from Peshawar, Pakistan. The aircraft was on a scheduled international flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Peshawar, Pakistan, when it was struck by several bullets shortly before landing. Two cabin crew members and one passenger were hit, and the passenger died of her injuries. There were no other injuries among the 10 other crew members nor the 177 other passengers.

On July 17, 2014: Malaysia Airlines, 777-200ER, 9M-MRD, flight MH17, near Grabovo, Ukraine. The aircraft was on a scheduled international flight between Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The aircraft cruised at about 33,000 feet when it experienced a catastrophic in flight breakup. All 283 passengers and 15 crew members were killed.

The following week, on July 23, 2014: TransAsia Airways ATR 72-500, B-22810, flight GE222, near Magong, Taiwan. The aircraft was on a scheduled domestic flight between Kaohsiung and Magong, Taiwan. The airplane crashed into a residential area near the airport while circling following an attempted landing at Magong, Taiwan, which is on Penghu island. Of the four crew members and 54 passengers, at least 48 occupants were killed. At least five people on the ground were also injured. There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the crash.

The next day on July 24, 2014: Air Algérie MD83, EC-LTV, flight AH5017, near Gossi, Mali. The aircraft was on a scheduled international flight from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Algiers, Algeria. The airplane contacted air traffic control about 50 minutes after takeoff, requesting a course change due to weather conditions. The aircraft crashed in the area of Gossi, Mali. All six crew members and 110 passengers were killed.

Truth be told, most air disasters are caused by human error. But in today’s world of modern aviation, you have a better chance of being hit by a car crossing the street than you do of going down on a commercial flight. Your chances of being killed in an air catastrophe is highly unlikely. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, in the event of an air crash, the chances of you surviving, far outnumbers the likelihood of death. The odds are clearly in your favor. Being involved in an aircraft fatality is somewhere around 1 in 11-14 million, depending on which report you believe. The chances of dying in a car accident is 1 in 5,000. The statistics are even higher if you reside in Los Angeles.

Do plane crashes scare people from flying? The definitive answer is no. Barring another 9/11 type catastrophe, whether for business or for pleasure, travelers will continue to travel by air, and flying remains one of the safest ways to travel.

The traveler’s memory is short. How many people remember the worst air disaster of all time? On March 27, 1977, off the coast of Africa in Tenerife, over Spain’s Canary Islands, two Boeing 747’s collided in a heavy fog killing 583 passengers.

Air disasters will always be a part of our world, but aviation technology is constantly improving. This is as it should be, with an improving world economy, air travel is on the rise.

How To Watch The Perseid Meteor Shower Online (LIVE VIDEO)

Prepare for the peak!

The Perseid meteor shower is set to swing into full view in the overnight hours between Aug. 12 and Aug. 13. The sky show was partially obscured by the supermoon earlier this week. But during the peak, well-situated skywatchers should be able to see 30 to 40 meteors per hour, weather permitting.

For the best view of the Perseids, skywatchers should step outside between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., according to NASA, which whipped up a handy map to show where in the world the shooting stars will be visible.

For astronomy buffs who can’t see the show in person, Slooh Space Camera will live stream the Perseid meteor shower starting at 7 p.m. EDT — check it out above. The webcast will feature views of the shower from a telescope in the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa.

NASA will offer its own live stream of the shower, with coverage from the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. The space agency’s webcast, available here, will begin at 9:30 p.m. EDT.

Rand Paul Thinks Civilization Will Fall Apart If Abortion Rights Aren't Curtailed

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who is attempting to walk a delicate line between social conservatives and his more libertarian-minded supporters, has been sending mixed messages of late on the issues of abortion and contraception.

“I think, and I often say in my speeches, that I don’t think a civilization can long endure that doesn’t respect the rights of the unborn,” Paul said in a conversation with the American Liberty Association last month.

Paul’s most recent comments stand in contrast to what he told David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, in an April interview.

“I think where the country is, is somewhere in the middle, and we are not changing any of the laws until the country is persuaded otherwise,” Paul said at the time, explaining that though he believes life begins at conception, public opinion is too polarized for him to try to ban the procedure.

Paul’s actions while in the Senate would seem to indicate where his heart lies on the matter. In March, he introduced the Life at Conception Act, a so-called “personhood” bill, which would grant legal rights to zygotes at fertilization.

Medical experts believe that personhood bills could also ban in vitro fertilization and some forms of birth control, along with abortion.

And yet at an event in Iowa last week, Paul distanced himself from legislative efforts like the personhood measure.

“It’s been this narrative that’s come from the other side … somehow saying we’re some troglodytes who really are against birth control,” he said, according to CNN. “There may be various opinions in here, but there’s probably almost nobody who wants to ban birth control. I haven’t heard any Republican politician who does.”

Paul has been pondering how to make the Republican Party “a bigger tent” and so has been hedging his rhetoric on issues from civil rights to foreign aid, in preparation for a potential bid for president in 2016.
