HTC Smartwatch Release Rumored For September

htc one review m8 labshot 12 640x359

If reports and rumors are to be believed then September is going to be a very good month for gadget lovers. Not only do we have IFA 2014 in the first week, where countless manufacturers like Sony and Samsung are going to unveil new flagships, but in the second week we have Apple with its new iPhones and possibly its wearable as well. A latest rumor suggests that HTC may be looking to take a piece out of this pie as well by launching its own wearable device in the month of September.

The rumor comes from a Twitter account that goes by @upleaks, some claim that it has taken up the baton that was passed on by infamous Twitter leaker @evleaks. According to the rumor HTC is working on a smartwatch that is destined for shelves next month.

There’s no information as yet on the design, specifications or features. The account only claims that it will be called HTC CWZ and that it will be released in September in North America, Brazil, Japan and other markets.

Truth be told we have been looking towards HTC to come up with a wearable device ever since the company’s Chairwoman Cher Wang said back in February that HTC will have a smartwatch ready to ship around the holiday season. This rumor seems to line up with that timeline but it remains to be see exactly how much consumer interest it manages to receive once it finally hits the market.

Cyanogen Reportedly Being Courted By Microsoft

cyanogenmod m6

The Cyanogen team is behind the most popular custom ROMs developed for Android smartphones and tablets. The team also develops software for the OnePlus One smartphone. Its safe to say that they have made quite a name for itself, but have they grown enough to appear on some behemoth’s radar? According to The Information, Microsoft is one of the big companies that is trying to acquire Cyanogen.

The scribe claims that apart from Microsoft, companies like Amazon, Yahoo and even Samsung are interested in purchasing Cyanogen, a company that’s looking to raise a Series C funding round. Microsoft is reportedly in talks with the company.

It is said that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella actually had a sit down with the Cyanogen team, while the above mentioned companies are also keeping an eye on Cyanogen to see if they can ink any sort of partnership or consider it as a viable acquisition target.

One might ask why Microsoft might be interested in a company that makes Android software, the company has already killed Nokia’s Android ambitions after it took over the devices and services business. The fact remains that Microsoft may only be interested in the talent at Cyanogen instead of their Android based software products.

It is too soon to say if a deal is going to take place between any of these companies and Cyanogen, but we’ll certainly keep our eye on any future developments.

FIXD Tells You What Those Dash Lights in Your Car Mean

If you have ever had the check engine light come on in your car, you know how uncomfortable that can be. In part of your brain, you think it’s nothing but a way for the dealer to make some money on service, and you keep driving. Another part of your brain thinks that your car will explode any second.

What you need is a gadget that can decipher those lights and tell you if you need to rush to the dealer or if you can keep on driving safely. FIXD is just such a device and it plugs into the OBDII port of your car to tell you what is wrong.

The device connects wirelessly to iOS or Android devices via Bluetooth. Its companion app will even estimate how much it costs to repair the problems you car has and helps you track when you need service.

FIXD is on Kickstarter right now with the Android version of the hardware and app combo landing later this year and the iOS version coming next year. A pledge of $50 or more will get you either version.

This New 4D Batman Theme Park Ride Looks Like a Giant Nope-Coaster

Growing up outside of St. Louis, there was a Six Flags only a forty-minute drive away. You could look right off the highway and see the sprawling parking lot, the giant Ferris wheel, and the twisted metal of all the roller coasters. The most imposing snake-like construction was Batman: The Ride.

iWatch Price Will Reportedly Be $400

iwatch concept

Earlier in the week we reported that Apple finally sent invites for its September 9th event. Previous rumors suggest that Apple might unveil its much awaited smartwatch alongside the new iPhones. The company itself has not confirmed if a wearable device is on the cards. Rumors and reports about this particular device keep coming in and the latest suggests that the iWatch price might be set by Apple at $400.

Word on the street is that while the iWatch might be unveiled at Apple’s September 9th event it may only start shipping in 2015. In that case Re/code reports that the company hasn’t finalized the $400 price as yet but its under consideration, its unlikely for the price to be confirmed even if the wearable is announced at the event.

it also cites sources which claim that Apple will be shipping multiple versions of its wearable device and that some will have a lower price point. This strategy would help Apple in countering the onslaught of wearable devices from rival manufacturers who are pushing these products for a variety of price points.

A wearable device is believed to be pivotal in Apple’s ambitions of expanding its presence in the home automation and mobile health space. The device is expected to work with Apple’s new Healthkit and HomeKit frameworks, making it stand apart from similar products by other manufacturers.

Even though Apple has said multiple times this year that it plans to enter into new product categories it is yet to explicitly state that the iWatch is one of them. We’ll have to wait until September 9th to find out for sure.

Friday the 13th NES Jason Mask: Memento Horrid

We now know Atlus as one of the last bastions of JRPGs, but it also made one of the worst games of all time: Friday the 13th for NES. Seriously, the only good thing I can say about the game is that it led to one of Angry Video Game Nerd’s funniest episodes. Toymaker NECA tips its hat to one of video gaming’s lowest moments with this glow-in-the-dark replica of series villain Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask.

The mask looks legitimately creepy and you can wear it or hang it on the wall, none of which can be said about the game. NECA says the mask will come in a “unique, game-inspired packaging”, which should make your interaction with the delivery guy less awkward.

More Rumors Point To Apple Turning Your iPhone Into a Digital Wallet

If you would have asked me a month ago what would be some of the most talked about topics surrounding Apple’s upcoming event on Sept. 9th , bigger iPhones, sapphire screens, and a rumored iWatch would definitely be my top three. NFC-powered mobile payments would rank somewhere near last place.
