Jibo Robot Wants To Be Part Of Your Family

When it comes to the world of robots, we are more or less familiar with robots in an assembly line at a factory, but home robots? Those are still far away in the distant future, although the Japanese are working on developing home-friendly robots to cater to an aging population. Cynthia Breazeal, the head of the Personal Robots Group at the MIT Media Lab, intends to introduce a crowdfunding campaign which will let you pick up the Jibo family robot if all goes well.

Jibo will retail for $499 a pop, which is pretty affordable for consumers, while developers will have to fork out an additional Benjamin more if they would like one of these puppies. The pricing has placed it to be within range of a high end smartphone, so those who are thinking of upgrading their handsets might want to defer for a while more and pick up Jibo instead, if not for its novelty factor and nothing else.

Jibo intends to be part of the family in due time, and can function as an organizer, an education tool, even help out elderly family members. It supports your human network by bringing people closer together, and in its effort to be more efficient, folks ought to feel all the more connected. In fact, little children have shown to respond well to Jibo’s presence.

Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A In Europe To Carry Full HD Display

galaxy s5 lteaDon’t you just hate it when a smartphone company rolls out the different versions of the same handset in various regions, where certain models would arrive with better hardware specifications than those elsewhere? Take the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A for instance – it was originally meant to be in the South Korea market only, but that seems to have changed, with an European variant with the model number SM-G901 headed across the pond. The thing is, the South Korea version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A will feature a QHD display, while the SM-G901 is said to come with a Full HD display instead.

This is definitely a drop in the total resolution count, but it ought not be too much of an issue actually if you are not too particular. Graphical purists would definitely complain, however, even more so when they find out that the SM-G901 allegedly comes with a display that measures 5.2”, which would make it larger compared to the 5.1” display that currently sees action on the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A as well as the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S5.

Quad HD or not, will you still be picking up the Galaxy S5 LTE-A version when it finally arrives in Europe?

The Boat People

2014-08-01-ship.jpgMy friend, Susan, has a great philosophy of life. On a morning walk, she explained her boat metaphor to me.

Susan waved her hands slightly to imitate a boat moving across a current. Positive people are on a boat that moves forward, despite obstacles, she said. It doesn’t matter how fast they move. Arriving is hardly the point.

What’s key is how engaged people are with their ever-evolving passions, and how happy they are guided by their purpose.

Susan surrounds herself with positive people, fellow sailors of sorts. She has befriended many, acknowledging they are not devoid of problems. Sailors have their fair share. But they know how to keep perspective, and refuse to be daunted by the current.

Positive people only know one direction: onward.

Mahatma Gandhi has this to say for those who want to navigate the current of positivity:

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) intends to make life easier for blind travelers by introducing a new pilot program in 2014 which could assist them in their navigation throughout the terminal, all with the assistance of beacon technology.

The beacons are actually extremely small sensors, where they will see action in Terminal 2, which happens to be one of SFO’s newest terminals. This particular initiative is tipped to kick off later this fall .

SFO will be working alongside Austrian-based indoor positioning and tech company Indoo.rs alongside the Lighthouse for the Blind so that these beacons will be able to be installed throughout Terminal 2. They cost approximately $20 a pop to install, and will run on Bluetooth technology to remain connected, synchronizing with a smartphone app that users will be able to refer to with each step that they take. So far, 300 beacons have been installed, and are tipped to last for a good four years.
