Time Warner Experiences Major Outage

time warner cable 640x359Is it a case of outage musical chairs that is being played out at the moment? Time Warner is the latest company to fall victim when it comes to its Internet services offered to those living in the U.S., and it certainly looks as though the East Coast has been affected a whole lot more seriously than anywhere else. Needless to say, Time Warner customers who were less than pleased with the outage and had not so kind words to share over social media showed just how short on patience we are these days, and it is to be expected in such a fast paced world, not to mention how we do expect a certain minimum level of service or uptime with the amount of money we fork out for such services.

Time Warner has also used social media as a platform for them to share updates on the situation as well as respond to complaints using Twitter, touting that the company is doing all that are possible to resolve such issues within the shortest time available.

Apparently, this particular outage seems to stretch from the East to West Coasts of the U.S., where majority of the later reports hail from Los Angeles, to New York, to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hybrid Bus Charging Technology Trial Kicks Off In London

london safety shieldA good city is one where it has all of the necessary infrastructure to get it going, and that includes an efficient public transport system to handle the huge number of commuters who go to work and return home to the suburbs in the same day, not to mention having plenty of tourists who would want nothing better than to soak in the entire atmosphere. Having said that, it looks as though the public transport network in London is slowly but surely getting more advanced, with Transport for London (TfL) having deployed 800 hybrid and a bunch of all-electric buses on the capital’s streets already.

However, there is one particular issue that needs to be addressed, and that would be ensuring that these all-electric buses would have an adequate amount of juice to ferry people all over the place, especially when one has to take into consideration the distance of the depot. To make sure that they run as efficiently as possible, TfL has initiated a brand new trial which would feature inductive charging stations being implemented across four east London bus stops, so that the Enviro400H E400 hybrid buses can juice up its exhausted batteries wirelessly as they pick up passengers.

This charging system will be first tested on its electric hybrid buses that ply route 69 from 2015 onward. Apart from that, the trial will give additional insight as to whether wireless charging works for buses that is jam packed with tourists all the time. [Press Release]

Yet Another Nexus X Leak Arrives

nexus x leakIt looks like the Nexus X is not one to shy away from rumors, as yet another leak has hit the news today with French retailer fnac.com showing up a listing for the device – before said page was removed after someone at fnac.com must have spotted the faux pas. In the revealed listing (which thankfully, some fast thinking person managed to grab a screenshot of it in the first place), it pointed out that the Nexus X will arrive with a 5.2” display, running on a Snapdragon 805 processor, carry a 13MP shooter at the back, and of course, Android L as the mobile operating system of choice.

The Nexus X is also touted to sport Motorola hardware, where it will boast of the XT1100 codename. So far, the leak has shown off a couple of versions – 32GB as well as 64GB, and it does not look as though there is a 16GB model in the pipeline somewhere. The listing points to the 32GB Nexus X to carry a €419.99 price tag, which will more or less be $419.99 as an unlocked model over in the U.S., while the 64GB model is said to retail for€449.99 apiece. Ah well, there is nothing else one can do except to sit tight and wait for an official release or announcement!

X Cube is going to be quite the cerebral challenge

xcubeOur brain is somewhat like a muscle, the more often we make use of it, the better and more adept we are, which means that we ought to be able to deal with future problems better when we use the way we solve existing ones as a “base” of sorts. For those of you who have had a long running love affair with puzzle games and toys, I am quite sure one of the more iconic puzzles you have solved before – or at least attempted to, before you rearranged the stickers accordingly, would have been the Rubik’s Cube. Over the years, there have been variants like the Scruble Cube, and here we are with what looks like a “Final Boss” type – the £24.99 X Cube.

It might sound harmless at first, but make no mistake about it – the X Cube is touted to be horrendously difficult to solve. After all, it does come with 52 moving parts, 102 stickers and 125 decillion possible permutations, and for those smug Rubik’s cube solvers, it might just bring down your pride and ego by a notch. Or a few notches, really, as you spend days and perhaps even months trying to get this piece solved. Of course, hats off to you if you managed to actually discover the right “formula” to get this puzzle solved!

Space Grasshopper Is Ready to Take off

Portuguese street artist Bordalo II really wants to get off of this planet and he wants to do it in style. That must be why he created this amazingly strange and cool “Space Grasshopper.”

For this installation he used scrap metal, found objects and other materials, but the thing that really makes it come alive is that vibrant acid green paint job. I assume all that is left to do is climb in and take off into outer space. Too bad it doesn’t really fly. If it did, it would likely need to chew grass for fuel.

To the artist I say, “You have done well, Grasshopper.”

10 Incredibly Dangerous Banned Toys

They say that it’s all fun and games until somebody loses an eye. Technically, the same applies to skull fractures, poisoning, and third-degree burns. Throughout history, toy makers have designed some truly brutal products (lawn darts, anyone?). But with modern-day lawsuits, you’d think we would’ve curbed that problem. Yet, in their fervor to create the next Slinky, Etch A Sketch, or Tickle Me Elmo, toy manufacturers continue to put dangerous product designs on the market.
