Woman Attributes Wii U Dancing Game To Saving Her Life

nintendo wii u review 25 640x423We have heard stories of how video games have managed to save lives. For example earlier this year we heard how an 11-year old who played Grand Theft Auto managed to save the life of his grandfather, and now according to a report from the UK’s Daily Mail, it seems that a woman has recently attributed the Nintendo Wii U to saving her life.

According to the woman, 36-year old Emma White, she claims that she was playing a dancing game on the Wii U console when she suddenly lost control of her bladder. Given that this is the first time it has ever happened to her, she went to her doctor who found that she was bleeding from her cervix. Additional tests revealed that White had cervical cancer.

However it seems it seems that after undergoing six weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy that the tumor had gone away. White claims that she started noticing signs that all was not well when she gave birth to her daughter in March 2013, although she did not think that it was anything serious.

“It took until November for me to realise that it had been over six months and my body still wasn’t back to normal. I just kept thinking I was going to get better so delayed going to the doctors.”

Infinity Blade III: Kingdom Come Will Be The Last Update In The Series

When Chair announced the first Infinity Blade game, safe to say that many gamers were amazed with the graphics of the game, especially given the fact that it was designed for mobile phones in mind. With every new release of an Infinity Blade game, the graphics and the gameplay got a little better.

However it looks like the Infinity Blade universe could soon be coming to an end. Chair has recently announced to Pocket Gamer that they will be issuing a new update to Infinity Blade III called Kingdom Come. The update will be arriving on the 4th of September and will introduce a new environment, new items, and so on.

According to Char, “The update delivers a stunning new environment, dozens of new items and weapons, and new enemies to defeat, including a fierce new dragon.” Unfortunately it seems that the Kingdom Come update will be the last update that Chair has planned for Infinity Blade III, thus effectively putting an end to the series.

In some way it is a bit sad to see the franchise come to an end, although we have to wonder what Chair could have planned for mobile games in the future. That being said, to mark the end of the franchise, Chair has put together a video which they believe contains the best moments from the various Infinity Blade titles, so check it out if you have a couple of minutes to spare!

Thinner MacBook Rumored For End 2014/Early 2015 Release

macbook air 2013 3 800x270 640x216The MacBook Air is a pretty thin as far as laptops are concerned, but apparently Apple thinks that they could go even thinner. According to a recent report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors), word on the street has it that Apple could be thinking about creating a new thinner MacBook laptop that could see a release by the end of the year or early next year.

Unfortunately the report did not mention how thin it would be, and if it could be thinner than the current MacBook Air laptops or if they meant that it would be a thinner version of the MacBook Pro lineup. However the report claims that Apple will cease production of the 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro by the end of the year, suggesting that perhaps this new laptop could take its place.

Now we have heard several rumors about Apple’s plans for their MacBook lineup. One of the rumors included a possible 12-inch MacBook Air that would be a happy middle between the 11-inch and 13-inch model. The rumor also claimed that production would kick off in Q3 2014 which seems to line up with DigiTimes’ report.

To corroborate the claims, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also stated earlier in the year that he expects Apple to release a 12-inch new design ultra slim MacBook. The new laptop will apparently sport a new cooling system and a button-less trackpad design. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re in the market for a new laptop, perhaps this could be worth keeping an eye out for.

Microsoft’s Cooks Up Functional Surface Pro 3 Made From Cardboard

surface cardboard 640x360While cardboard might not necessarily be the most hi-tech material available at the moment, it has a lot of use, such as building boxes, and in some instances forming the frame of a virtual reality headset which is what Google debuted a couple of months ago. Perhaps Microsoft is taking a page from Google’s playbook because it seems that over in Australia, Microsoft has started sending out cardboard versions of the Surface Pro 3 in an attempt at marketing the device to various schools in the country.

According to a report from The Verge, it seems that the cardboard version of the Surface Pro 3 is actually functional. Granted it probably won’t let you type up documents, watch movies, or surf the web, but it does come with functional electronic components. For example it has a working display which lights up to highlight some of the hardware specs of the actual Surface Pro 3 tablet.

It even comes with a mini USB port which is used to charge the mini display, thus turning it from an art class project to a novel use of technology. Now this isn’t the first time that companies have used similar marketing tactics to draw attention to themselves. For example Motorola launched an offline Moto Maker in Wired’s magazine, and Entertainment Weekly actually had an Android phone embedded in the pages of their magazine.

Either way it’s a pretty clever marketing stunt by Microsoft and we have to wonder if Microsoft will be taking that idea to other parts of the world, or if this marketing tactic is limited to Australia.

5.7-inch LG Gx2 Announced, Borrows The G3′s Laser Camera

lg gx2It seems that LG is on a roll when it comes to smartphone launches. Earlier this week the South Korean tech company announced the LG G3 Stylus but apparently that’s not all they had up their sleeves. According to a recent announcement by LG (via Engadget), LG has recently taken the wraps off a new handset dubbed the LG Gx2, which should not be confused with the LG G2x.

That being said, the LG Gx2 does not appear to be a high-end smartphone, although it does seem to have borrowed certain features from the LG G3. For starters, the phone will sport a whopping 5.7-inch 720 HD display. It will be powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and will be accompanied by 1.5GB of RAM.

The handset will also come with 8GB of onboard storage, a 3,200mAh battery, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, and an 8MP rear-facing camera that will borrow the LG G3’s laser autofocus system. Unfortunately LG did not mention when the handset will launch or how much it will cost when it is launched.

However given that the press release was made on LG’s Korean website, there is a good chance that the LG Gx2 could be limited to the Korean market, but either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for a possible release stateside or in international markets.

Google Installs Giant Google Maps With Voice Search In Shibuya, Japan

gmaps shibuyaExploring a new city can be a little daunting especially if the city you’re visiting does not speak your language. This means that more often than not you could end up lost. Well the good news for visitors and tourists to Tokyo, Japan is that Google has recently installed a gigantic display outside of the Shibuya station.

The display will measure a whopping 138-inches big and basically displays a huge Google Maps where people can use it to find their way around. It also comes with a small stand, which you can see in the image above, that comes with a microphone attached to it. Using the microphone, users will be able to input voice commands into the map to help them look for locations and places of interest.

The interface provided by Google will be pretty familiar to those who have used Google Maps or Google Now as they appear to be more or less the same, just bigger. However according to the folks at Engadget, it seems that the microphone has a pretty hard time trying to listen to what you’re saying thanks to the huge crowd that typically gathers around Shibuya.

However if you’re in the area and don’t mind taking it for a spin, you should probably go check it out as this is only a temporary installation by Google. Pretty cool, huh?
