The Moduul Is A Classy Dock For The LG G Watch

moduul indiegogo exploded 640x640Given that smartwatches are relatively new, charging methods for the watches are pretty standard and nothing to shout about. However a design firm out of Sydney, Australia by the name of Aerios has decided that perhaps it’s time to jazz things up a bit. They have recently unveiled a smartwatch charging dock dubbed the Moduul that has been designed for the LG G Watch in mind.

The dock will charge your smartwatch but due to the way it has been designed, users will be able to use the dock and their smartwatch as a miniature clock that they can place by their bedside or on their table while it charges. As you can see in the image above, the dock will prop up the watch with the face of the watch angled towards the user.

Aerios will also be giving the dock a somewhat “premium” finish as the dock has been made out of materials such as wood and anodized aluminum, which means that it should look pretty classy and feel pretty sturdy at the same time. For those interested in checking it out, Aerios has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help complete the remaining funding that they need for the dock.

However the good news is that whether the campaign gets funded or not, the dock will still be produced. Its creators claim that the funding raised from Indiegogo will go towards funding the tools used to craft the watch, so if you’d like to give the company a helping hand, then pledging to their campaign could be a good way to go. In the meantime what do you guys think? Any takers for the Moduul smartwatch dock?

LG Hints At Round Smartwatch In New Teaser Image

lg g watch r teaser 512x640A few days ago, we reported that LG had teased that they would be launching a new smartwatch with a round face that would look more like a traditional watch, as opposed to hi-tech piece of gadgetry. We can only assume the hype and excitement around the Moto 360 probably got LG thinking that they needed a new design.

That being said, LG has since released a teaser image on their Google+ page which more or less reveals the design of their upcoming watch. Now as you can see in the image above, the design of the company’s new smartwatch (which has tentatively been dubbed the LG G Watch R) definitely looks a bit more traditional.

Unfortunately apart from the teaser image, LG did not reveal any of the watch’s specs. However as per the teaser image, it seems that LG will be unveiling the device at IFA 2014 which will be kicking off next week, so be sure to check back with us then for the details! In the meantime it seems that LG will not be the only one looking to release a new smartwatch at the event.

ASUS has recently teased a smartwatch of their own making which is also expected to debut at IFA 2014. However ASUS’ design seems to be more square than round, but perhaps it could sport an interesting enough design to capture our attention, but either way tune in during IFA 2014 for more coverage!

Drone Captures Visuals Of Earthquake Damage

The drone might be a misunderstood piece of technology, having been restricted to different areas of testing, all the while not being able to spend the day in the midst of nature just like how you would love to. Well, they are still a great hobbyist’s tool, as this particular Napa man showed the world in the YouTube video above. In other words, Evan Klikus flew his drone around downtown Napa in order to check out just how extensive the damage was due to the earthquake that happened over the weekend.

Using a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ quadrocopter that costs approximately $1,369, this all of the footage has been edited and condensed into a video that is seven minutes long, allowing the viewer to have an up close and personal view of a damaged post office, courthouse and church. Apart from that, you will be able to check out a collapsed garage with crushed cars trapped within in the video. For some musical accompaniment, credit goes to Napa-based musician Bill Scholer.

This just goes to show how drones can be used during an emergency, as it scouts ahead of humans to see whether there is presence of human life amidst the rubble. Of course, it will take a trained eye and perhaps even ear to do so.

Google To Launch First Campus In Asia

google logoThe search giant known as Google has drawn up plans to introduce what it calls its very first campus over here in the continent of Asia. Taking into consideration just how large Asia is, to be more specific, the folks over at Google wants to spice up the startup scene over in Seoul, South Korea. Google exec Bridgette Beam shared, “Korean innovators and entrepreneurs are some of the best in Asia and Korean startups are making headlines around the world, especially in the mobile space.”

Hence, what is it that those over in Seoul are able to look forward to when it comes to Google’s Campus? This particular program already has bases over in the likes of London and Tel Aviv, among others, where the main objective of it would be to allow the local startup ecosystem to tap into the experience, resources and support which Google’s local and global teams are able to offer. Being located in South Korea will ensure that there will be exchanges with other campuses, not to mention a range of programs that are focused on topics such as motherhood and startups, CampusEDU, mentoring with Googlers, the works.

As to whether Campus Seoul will be able to live out its vision of supercharging tech entrepreneurs, while strengthening the startup ecosystem and encouraging additional innovation in South Korea remains to be seen – only time will be able to tell.

LG G3 Will Cross The 10 Million Sales Mark, LG Expresses Their Confidence

lg g3 phone 002 640x426With the release of the LG G3 earlier this year, LG definitely made waves in the Android market as the handset came with an impressive QHD display, something that other OEMs have yet to catch on. Granted other players such as Vivo and Oppo have beaten LG to the punch, but LG could be considered a more mainstream brand, thus making it a bigger deal.

That being said could the LG G3 be LG’s best selling smartphone to date? Well apparently the South Korean company thinks so. According to a report from The Korea Times, LG issued a statement where they basically expressed confidence in the LG G3 and that they believe it will exceed the 10 million sales mark.

Assuming that LG manages to achieve that, it could be the first smartphone from LG that does so. Typically LG plays a second fiddle to their South Korean rival, Samsung, but with the LG G3, it’s starting to look like LG has what it takes to make some noise and generate a ton of sales.

So far LG has managed to ship 14.5 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2014, with the LG G3 probably contributing a fair amount to that. However as we know, shipment numbers does not equal to sales, so for LG to hit the 10 million sales mark with the LG G3 is definitely impressive, but what say you? Are you surprised, or did you expect that the LG G3 would prove to be a hit?

Instagram Explains Why Hyperlapse Isn’t Available On Android For Now

instagram hyperlapseIt was just yesterday that Instagram launched a new video app called Hyperlapse. For those who might have missed out on our coverage from yesterday, Hyperlapse is basically a video app which allows users to create time lapse videos. Given that manually crafting a time lapse video can be quite painstaking, this certainly makes things a lot easier.

Not to mention the app comes with image stabilization, a feature which is currently lacking from the iOS camera, thus making the app more compelling than it already is. Unfortunately the app is iOS-only and if you were wondering when the Android version will be released, you could be in for a wait.

In a statement Instagram released to Wired, they claimed that unless Google makes changes to the camera and gyroscope APIs on Android, Hyperlapse would simply not be able to work on Android devices. However as per Instagram’s statement, it seems like the developers are more than happy to release an Android version, but they’re just waiting on Google to make said changes before they can do so.

Of course it is possible that maybe Instagram will find a workaround, or perhaps there could be an alternative app for Android that does what Hyperlapse does, but until then it looks like iOS users will be monopolizing the Hyperlapse fun.

The Sims 4 Recommended PC Specs Are A Little Higher Than Expected

the sims 4 640x359Given the success of the previous titles in The Sims’ franchise, we’re sure there are plenty of gamers out there who can’t wait to get their hands on The Sims 4. The game has been pegged for a release on the 2nd of September which is next week, but in the meantime does your computer have what it takes to run the game smoothly?

According to The Sims official website, the recommended hardware specifications for the game have been revealed. The developers are recommending that gamers run either Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. They are also recommending an Intel Core i5 or better processor, or an AMD Athlon X4 for those who use AMD’s chipsets. 4GB of RAM is also recommended to run the game smoothly, and with at least 9GB of hard drive space for installation, and an extra 1GB for additional custom content and saved games.

In terms of GPU, the developers are recommended an NVIDIA GTX 650 or better. Interestingly enough it seems that the game has pretty high hardware requirements, at least for a game of its genre, although EA has mentioned in the past that they will be upgrading the technology for The Sims 4 so perhaps that might explain the higher requirements.

So if you have all of those specs, or perhaps even better, then you should have no problems running the game, but if you don’t, you could always try running the game at the bare minimum settings or perhaps it’s time you considered making some upgrades.

Xiaomi Removes Xiaomi Mi 3 From India Market

xiaomi mi3China-based Xiaomi did make use of a similar marketing tactic over in India concerning their Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone, where the company was touted to have sold 95,000 units of the smartphone in a short amount of time. Just how fast did the Xiaomi Mi 3 manage to fly off the store shelves? If their claim were to be believed, we were looking at a block of 15,000 handsets that actually sold out in a matter of just two seconds, how insane is that? Apparently, the sales occurred via India’s top online retailer, Flipkart. Well, it looks like Xiaomi will be pulling out the Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone from the India market now, and instead will switch over to the entry-level Xiaomi Redmi 1S as well as the phablet known as the Xiaomi Redmi Note.

Expect the Xiaomi Redmi 1S to go on sale over in India this coming 2nd of September, where it will carry an equivalent retail price of $99. There will be 40,000 units of that particular smartphone made available to those who are interested, and we do expect it to sell like hot cakes too, if the sales “performance” of its past products were to be an indicator.

Why pull out a top shelf unit and gun for an entry-level model instead? Perhaps it is easier to mass produce the Redmi series, and that would also work out better for Xiaomi in the long run.

Snapchat Valuated At $10 Billion Now

snapchatThere are times when playing with your cards close to your chest works in your favor. Earlier this year, we brought you word on how Snapchat’s CEO turned down Facebook’s offer to purchase the company for $3 billion, which is certainly a whole lot of money at that time (and even now). Those who said that the company should have been sold at that price will probably be interested to know that the Snapchat CEO did the right thing then, as Snapchat is now valuated at a whopping $10 billion – which is more than three times of what Facebook offered just eight months ago.

The main reason behind this valuation spike? Well, there were reports going around that venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers has decided to invest another $20 million in Snapchat, in addition to another strategic investor having given their nod of approval to throw in more money – although that particular amount has not been revealed.

A Snapchat spokeswoman, however, had this to say about the rumors that were flying around, “The valuation of our business and our capital requirements are the least exciting aspects of supporting the Snapchat community. We have no further comment at this time.” Do you think that Snapchat is worth $10 billion at the moment, and how high will it go?
