The contract between LA Unified and Apple was nixed earlier this week following revelations that LA’s superintendent and one of his deputies had “close ties” to executives from both education-centric Pearson and Apple. News that the current contract will no longer be used was revealed on Monday. According to the LA Times, superintendent John Deasy said that the decision will, … Continue reading
There has been some developments (read: rumors and leaks) concerning the upcoming Nexus X, but it has been insufficient to whip up frenzy surrounding the upcoming HTC-manufactured Nexus device. While we do know that it is in the pipeline and will eventually roll out one of these days, rumors point to it arriving with an 8.9” display alongside 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution, not to mention sporting a 64-bit Tegra K1 processor.
In one of the more recent CPU-Z reports that was leaked out, it pointed to such a processor that will make its way in the next generation HTC Nexus tablet. CPU-Z reports are virtually impossible to fake, and TKTech, the party behind this leak, has had a pretty accurate track record to date. The Tegra K1 processor was clocked at 2.5GHz, and this heavy hitting SoC would definitely be an ideal match to go alongside the Tegra chip.
Well, we will just have to wait for the official tablet to roll out before having a better idea on what the HTC Nexus tablet is all about, hence playing the patience card is a good idea. What do you think that a next generation tablet ought to arrive with in terms of hardware, and should it bear some sort of waterproof capability?

HTC Desire 510 Announced
Posted in: Today's Chili
When it comes to smartphones, it is always nice to have a flagship device in your pocket all the time, but majority of us would do fine with a mid-range device as long as it functions just right without being inaccessible at the moment when you need it the most. HTC knows this, and this time around they have decided to set their sights on the mid-range market with the introduction of the HTC Desire 510, which will be able to deliver LTE connectivity to the masses without requiring you to break the proverbial bank.
Sporting quad-core LTE performance alongside a generous display, the HTC Desire 510 has been described to be an all-around multimedia powerhouse. Since it is capable of playing nice with the latest category 4 LTE connectivity, your HTC Desire 510 would be able to handle downloads at extremely fast speeds without batting an eyelid.
Other hardware specifications of the HTC Desire 510 include a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, a 4.7” display, support for HTC BlinkFeed that ought to consolidate all of your social network and RSS feeds into an easy to read and access channel at your own whim and fancy. Expect to pick up the HTC Desire 510 in Terra White and Meridian Grey shades, and while there is no unibody aluminum chassis, the polycarbonate chassis will still ooze with class. There is no word on pricing just yet, but we do know that the HTC Desire 510 will arrive in selected regions in Europe and Asia in due time. [Press Release]

Twitch.tv Hit By DDOS Attack
Posted in: Today's ChiliIt looks like the group known as the Lizzard Squad, who were the ones that claimed responsibility for the attack on Sony’s PS4 network which was an effort to raise awareness on how Sony should focus more on security in their services with all the money that the company is making, is back again. This time around, it is not Sony’s recovered PS4 network that falls under the spotlight, but rather, it would be Amazon’s latest purchase that is affected – Twitch.tv. After costing Amazon close to a cool billion dollars, it goes to show that all the money in the world will still be unable to get you a secure online channel or service.
This DDOS attack has sent Twitch.tv offline, where the status page did point out that not only Twitch.tv is affected, but other services as well are undergoing some kind of disruption. Needless to say, this is a major inconvenience to those who intend to sit back and enjoy some bit of gaming.
It remains to be seen (or heard, for that matter) as to when will the Lizzard Squad cease their targeting of Twitch, or even to figure out the reasoning behind such an action. Was it because they wanted to show the world that they could do so, or were they upset by the news that Amazon had bought over Twitch? Only time will tell, but then again, time is also the great healer of DDOS attacks.

Facebook Wants To Fix iOS App Security Issue
Posted in: UncategorizedThere is nothing quite as scary as having your personal details and information stolen and misused by those with less than altruistic intentions. This means that security on software and apps on mobile devices ought to have the security aspect all sewn up right from the very beginning, although there is always a possibility that a loophole might be left open somewhere. Facebook realizes this and the social networking giant has just announced that they will be rolling out an update to the iOS app which will finally patch up a flaw in the app that enables phone calls to be made without the need for the user’s prior permission – or knowledge, for that matter.
It looks like security issues are not only limited to Android apps, as the Facebook iOS app, too, has its fair share of potential security loopholes such as the one mentioned above. Andrei Neculaesei, a developer at Copenhagen-based Airtame, was the one behind the discovery of this iOS bug that could actually land you in some hot soup with your mobile carrier when the next bill comes, especially when long distance phone calls are made without your awareness. While Facebook has already announced that they have developed an update that will fix this security threat; there has been no release date for such a fix just yet. Patience is the name of the game here.
