Grand Theft Auto V Pegged For 14th November Release In The UK

gta 5 gem1 1About a week ago, we reported that it was possible that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V for PC and next-gen consoles could be released on the 1st of November. The date might be provisional but now according to Rockstar’s UK retailer, Gem, it seems that they have pegged the game for a release on the 14th of November as you can see in the screenshot above.

However we can’t be 100% sure that this is the correct date, but then again as Gem is Rockstar’s distributor for the UK, we reckon they should know when the games are pegged for a release, right? Also because this is for the UK, it is unclear if the US or other markets will be seeing a similar release date as well, unless of course Rockstar is aiming for a simultaneous release.

Earlier rumors have suggested that the game could be delayed to 2015, however a recent post by Rockstar support has indicated that the game is still on track for a fall release. Rockstar has yet to comment on Gem’s listing so just to be safe, we reckon you guys should probably not hold your breath yet until we hear from the developers officially. In the meantime who else is excited to get their hands on the game for the PC and next-gen consoles?

Sony Teases Water Resistant Products For IFA 2014

2m xperia sony ifa 640x360Earlier today Sony posted a teaser image on Twitter in which they seemed to tease the dimensions for an upcoming device. Based on the dimensions there was a good chance that Sony could be referring to the upcoming Sony Xperia Z3 which would be the company’s second flagship smartphone for 2014.

That being said, Sony has posted a new teaser and this time it seems to hint at how water resistant their devices are going to be. As you can see in the image above, the teaser image suggests that Sony’s products will be water resistant up to 2m in depth. It is unclear if this is a general teaser for Sony’s mobile devices, or if it could be for the Sony Xperia Z3.

We expect that Sony will be announcing the Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact alongside the Xperia Z3, so there is a chance that the image could be in reference to all of Sony’s mobile devices or just their flagship phone. Either way it’s starting to seem that water and dust resistance is becoming a common feature among smartphones these days.

In fact leaked photos of the Xperia Z3 has suggested that Sony could be upping their game but either way do check back with us during IFA, which is kicking off this week, for the details!

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Leaked, Shows Off Multiple Color Options

Xperia Z3 Compact inferiorCome IFA 2014, we expect that Sony will have a bunch of mobile devices they are planning on showing us. One will probably be the company’s second flagship phone for 2014 – the Sony Xperia Z3, and the other is expected to be a smaller version of the handset in the form of the Xperia Z3 Compact.

Thanks to leaked photos obtained by Ausdroid, we now know what the handset is expected to look like. As you can see in the image above, the Xperia Z3 Compact will arrive in a variety of different colors, which based on the photo looks like white, orange, green, and black. The handsets also appear to be slightly different from Sony’s design language of the Xperia Z2 and appears to sport slightly more rounder edges.

Xperia Z3 Compact coloresWe have to admit that the phones look pretty good and if you’re after something affordable and don’t necessarily need to have the best specs, we reckon the Xperia Z3 Compact should do the trick. The phone has yet to be officially announced but based on what we know so far, the handset is expected to feature a 4.5-inch 720p HD display.

It will also be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz with 2GB of RAM, a 20.7MP rear-facing camera, a 2.1MP front-facing camera, and will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It definitely does not sound like a pushover, although its smaller display and lower resolution could help keep prices down.

Either way do check back with us during IFA 2014 later this week for the official details, but in the meantime are you guys liking what you are seeing at the moment?

Apple “Actively Investigating” iCloud Hack

icloud 640x302According to a report earlier today, it seemed that due to an alleged iCloud hack, a variety of celebrity photos were compromised. Many of the photos involved nudity, although some celebrities have claimed that they were fake, but at the same time some did come forward acknowledging the authenticity of them.

That being said, Apple has since issued a statement claiming that they are actively looking into the matter. According to Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris, “We take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report.” It has also been noted that whatever flaw or vulnerability that the hacker found has since been closed.

While Apple has yet to officially mention what it was that allowed the hack into iCloud, some have speculated that it could have been due to a flaw/vulnerability in the Find my iPhone feature that allowed the hacker to gain access to certain iCloud accounts. The Next Web also reports that a software called iBrute allowed the hacker to carry out brute-force attacks against iCloud and gaining access.

Some have criticized Apple and claimed that this was a straightforward attack that could have been easily avoided. According to Darien Kindlund, the director of threat research at FireEye, he claims that if there had been a two-factor authentication system, the problem could have been avoided. He adds, “In general Apple has been a little late to the game in offering this kind of protection, and doesn’t advertise it. You have to dig through the support articles to find it.”

Internet Explorer 11′s Market Share Is On The Rise

Stats browser August 2014 640x325A lot of people give Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser a lot of grief, and in all fairness earlier builds of Internet Explorer left a lot to be desired, thus giving alternative browsers such as Firefox and Chrome room to grow. That being said, Microsoft has made strides with Internet Explorer and thanks to the latest numbers from Net Applications, it shows that IE11’s market share has grown.

As it stands, IE8 continues to dominate the market as it is the default browser on Windows 7, an operating system which still commands the lion’s share of the market. However its market share of 21.4% is actually a slight dip from 21.56% from last month. As for IE11, it has jumped from 16.78% last month to 17.45% this month, although overall it seems that Internet Explorer’s market share has dipped from 58.38% to 57.69%.

Google’s Chrome browser comes in third at 11.05% followed by Mozilla’s Firefox browser at 10.51%. Other browsers command 20.75% and are probably a mix of different browsers out there, such as Opera and Safari for example. Interestingly enough IE6 is still barely hanging on at 3.33%, but given that IE6 was the default browser for Windows XP, this hardly comes as a surprise.

We have to wonder if Microsoft will make a new version of Internet Explorer with the upcoming Windows 9, and if they did, would it be adopted faster than IE11? We guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

iPhone 6 Pre-Order Date Pegged For 19th September By Dutch Carrier

apple logoWhile Apple has confirmed that they will be hosting an event on the 9th of September where presumably the iPhone 6 will be launched, we guess the question that remains is when will Apple release the phone? Previously it had been rumored that it would be released on the 19th of September and now thanks to a report from Dutch website iPhonez.nl (via Cult of Mac), they have “confirmed” that the 19th of September could be a possible date as well.

They claim that one Dutch carrier (it was not named) would begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone 6 starting from the 19th of September. This seems to be in line with Apple’s release schedule which is usually a couple of weeks after the iPhone has been officially announced. For example in 2013, Apple announced their new iPhones on the 10th of September but officially released them on the 20th of September.

That being said, the report notes that the carrier’s backend system does not list two types of iPhone models. This seems to corroborate earlier rumors that suggested that Apple might have some production issues with the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 that would cause it to be launched at a later date. It is unclear if the 5.5-inch model will be announced first and released later, or if it would skip the 9th of September announcement entirely.

Either way take it with a grain of salt for now because for all we know, the Dutch carrier could simply be following the rumors and have marked the 19th of September as a placeholder date, but do check back with us on the 9th of September for all the official details!

YouTube’s Donation Feature Is Now Live In Four Countries

youtube donateWhen it comes to making money from YouTube, there are ads in which a portion of it will be given to the video’s creators. However unless you’re in that top 5% of YouTube video creators, there is a good chance that whatever you make from those ads are barely enough to survive.

However a few months ago, Google announced that they would be introducing new tools to YouTube creators that would allow them to solicit donations from their videos. This would allow another source of income for these video creators. Android Police are reporting that the feature is now live and are detailing how it works.

Basically video creators will now be able to enable the donations option. When it is, hovering your mouse over the video will display an icon in the top left corner. Clicking it will reveal another window in which users can then proceed to decide just how much they plan on donating to the YouTuber, which you can see in the screenshot above.

Interestingly enough it seems that the donate feature has extend to the mobile YouTube app as well, so video watchers will be able to donate from their phones or their computers. Unsurprisingly YouTube will be taking a cut of the donation in the form of 5% plus 21 cents, although the latter amount will differ from country to country. For example in Japan it is ¥22 which roughly works out to 21 cents.

As it stands the feature is only live in the US, Japan, Australia, and Mexico, although Google is expected to enable the feature for other markets down the road.

You Won't Have a Long Face If You Watch BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman, the latest Netflix original series, is a good show. Unlike Netflix breakouts like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, it’s not getting a ton of attention… but it deserves a wide viewership, or at least as wide a viewership a droll adult animated comedy can get. The cast is dynamite. Will Arnett plays the titular jaded, anthropomorphized steed, while Allison Brie, Aaron Paul, and perfect human Amy Sedaris all contribute stellar turns as Bojack’s biographer, friend, and agent.
