Blizzard Expects Hearthstone To Be Playable 10 Years From Now

hearthstone 640x359When the World of Warcraft TCG came to an end, we’re sure many wondered if Blizzard would ever come up with another TCG and sure enough they did in the form of Hearthstone. Hearthstone, for those unfamiliar, is Blizzard’s latest game and it is a free-to-play title, although gamers have the option of paying for new packs of cards if they’d rather not grind for it.

That being said, the game has taken off in a huge way and there are many prominent Hearthstone players at the moment, but given that the game started off pretty small, how big are Blizzard’s ambitions for the game? Speaking in an interview with the folks over at IGN, Hearthstone’s producer Yong Yoo revealed that they plan for players to keep playing the game, even 10 years from now.

Speaking about how Blizzard prices Hearthstone’s in-app purchases, Yong was quoted as saying, “We’re not here to make a quick buck. I want to be playing and working on Hearthstone 10 years from now and from that end, instead of focusing on maximising immediate profit, Hearthstone is really about being able to play it how you want to.”

Given that World of Warcraft seems to be winding down in terms of active subscribers and how Blizzard does not seem overly optimistic that World of Warcraft will ever see the same numbers again, could Hearthstove end up being Blizzard’s next cash cow? We guess we’ll have to wait and find out, but in the meantime do you see yourself playing the game maybe 5 or 10 years from today?

More Rumors Suggest That Reversible Lightning Cable Will Not Ship With iPhone 6

apple lightning plugWe have been hearing rumors that Apple has plans for a reversible USB Lightning cable that is expected to make its debut with the iPhone 6. In some ways this doesn’t really come as a surprise given that Apple has patents for such a design in the past, although recent rumors seem to suggest that the accessory might not be making its debut with the iPhone 6.

This is according to a new note from KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo (via AppleInsider) who notes that he doesn’t expect Apple to ship the new cable with the iPhone 6. He claims that the reason for this is apparently due to cost concerns as well as “limited improvements to overall user experience”.

Kuo’s note seems to corroborate with an earlier report that revealed that one of Apple’s manufacturing partners had sent Apple some samples but the Cupertino company had yet to move forward by placing an order. This suggested that Apple could either be rethinking the design or could be delaying it for a later release.

In any case there seems to be third-party reversible USB Lightning cables in the market already and with Apple’s event kicking off next week on the 9th of September, we guess we will find out all the official details then.

Toshiba wants TransferJet to replace NFC

toshiba-transferjet-micro-usb-adapter-700x420Apple may have just joined the NFC game, if rumors are true, but it seems that there’s already a challenger to the technology already in sight. That is, at least, if Toshiba has its way. It wants TransferJet to become the de facto standard technology when it comes to fast, wireless data transfer instead of NFC which, in all honesty, … Continue reading

Possible Sony Xperia Z3 Dimensions Teased

sony dimensions ifaAs we all know, IFA 2014 is around the corner and based on the leaks and rumors, it seems that Sony has a couple of things that they are planning on announcing. For starters we can probably look forward to an announcement of the Sony Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3 Compact, and maybe even the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

However in a recent teaser image uploaded by Sony onto Twitter, it seems that they are teasing the dimensions of one of their mobile devices. As you can see in the image above, they are teasing a device which measures 124mm x 6.4mm. Based on that we can safely rule out a tablet, even if it was a compact one, which means that we can either look forward to the Xperia Z3 or Xperia Z3 Compact.

Then again the Xperia Z3 would be Sony’s flagship device and it would make more sense for them to talk about that, so there is a good chance that the measurements listed above could very well be for the Xperia Z3. Of course there are other products that Sony has planned, such as the QX30 lens-style camera, but for now it seems like a safe bet that it could be the Xperia Z3.

In any case we guess we’ll just have to wait for Sony’s official announcement at IFA 2014, so be sure to check back with us during the week for the details.

Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A Now Available For $749

gs5 lte a 615x640A few months ago, Samsung announced their first QHD smartphone in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A. The device was basically the Galaxy S5 except that it featured a QHD display resolution and also came with support for LTE-A networks. Now the good news is that if you’ve been eyeing the handset but were a bit bummed by its South Korean exclusivity, you might be pleased to learn that it is available from 28mobile.com.

Now the handset will be priced pretty expensive at $749 and given that it is not officially offered by any local carrier, it means that the phone will have to be bought outright as opposed to bought via a contract. For those who enjoy having the freedom of choice, we guess this is a good thing, although that means you’d have to pay a lot of money upfront.

There is also a good chance that the LTE-A functionality will not be applicable in the US due to the different radios so essentially you will be just buying the phone for its display. However we should point out that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has been confirmed to feature a QHD display. Granted its larger display would mean its pixel density is lower, but unless you can actually tell the difference, perhaps waiting for the Galaxy Note 4 could be a better idea.

Microsoft Teases Upcoming Nokia Selfie Phone

Teaser1 featAccording to previous leaks and rumors, word on the street has it that Microsoft has a new Nokia Lumia handset in the works that could be aimed at users who enjoy taking selfies. Recently photos of the Lumia 730 and 735 have leaked and it looks like Microsoft is busy teasing the launch as well.

The Redmond company has recently posted a teaser image on Nokia’s website which clearly shows a trio of people in a photo taking selfies. In fact the website even has a countdown to the event which will be taking place on the 4th of September, so if you’re after a selfie-focused camera then perhaps Microsoft’s upcoming announcement could be for you.

That being said, not much is known about the handsets for now. They are rumored to feature a 5MP front-facing camera and the main difference in the Lumia 730 and Lumia 735 is the former will be a dual SIM version of the phone, while the latter is said to feature LTE connectivity. Both devices are also rumored to feature a 4.7-inch display.

Unfortunately apart from that not much else is known, although with the 4th of September creeping up on us, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see what Microsoft has in store for us.
