Sony Unveils Metallic Slime Edition PlayStation 4 Console

ps4 slimeThere is nothing wrong with the Sony PlayStation 4’s design at the moment. Some might disagree but in general it’s not like it’s a very ugly console to look at. That being said if you were looking for something a little more special, perhaps the Dragon Quest Metallic Slime Edition of the Sony PlayStation 4 could be of interest to you.

To mark the release of Dragon Quest Heroes, Sony has announced that they will be releasing a special edition PS4 to commemorate the launch. As you can see in the image above, the entire console, including its controller, has been given a new coat of metallic silver paint. However what makes it even more unique is the fact that there is a “slime” that appears to be oozing over the edge of the console.

The slime is actually pretty cute and according to Famitsu, it’s basically a USB cover that can be attached and detached from the console itself, but otherwise it lends a pretty unique look to the console. This special edition PS4 unit is expected to go on sale next spring where it will be released alongside the game, but unfortunately pricing has yet to be revealed.

It was also not mentioned if it could be a Japan-only exclusive or if it will see an international launch, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled anyway. In the meantime anyone planning on getting their hands on it?

Nokia Eyeing Return To Consumer Business

nokia z launcher androidWith Nokia’s mobile division having been sold off to Microsoft, what will Nokia do with itself? We’ve heard some rumors that Nokia could be eyeing the consumer market again and could break in with Android devices, something which Microsoft swiftly put an end to, and also wearable devices under their HERE brand.

That being said, Nokia’s CEO Rajeev Suri has recently given an interview with the Economic Times of India in which he revealed the company’s desire to move back to the B-to-C (business to consumer) business, as opposed to merely being a player who remains in the background.

According to Suri, “Maybe, we will do something else that will relate to the B-to-C business.” Suri also goes on to state that they’ve had some success in the consumer market with the Z Launcher, which for those unfamiliar is an Android launcher made by Nokia. Suri stated that so far they have managed to get over 100,000 activations during its beta phase.

“We just launched a Z launcher – a predictive app on Android devices, which got 100,000 activations when it was a beta. That’s (B-2-C) an area where we want to move fast, fail, learn and move forward to new products.” Who knows, perhaps Nokia’s future Android devices could be launched with Z Launcher as the default, but in the meantime are you excited to see Nokia return to the consumer business side of things?

Potential iCloud Hack Sees Compromising Celebrity Photos Leaked

icloud 640x306Whether you follow celebrity gossip or tech news, it seems that both genres have collided paths today in what can only be seen as one of the largest leaks of celebrity nude photos. According to multiple reports, it seems that a hacker has been steadily building up a collection of photos of a variety of celebrities and if you’re wondering what’s this got to do with tech, well it seems that they have managed to access these photos by hacking into Apple’s iCloud storage service.

Apple has yet to comment on the allegations that they have been hacked, but according to the reports, it seems that for the most part they were taken from iCloud, or so they claim. For those who are a little fuzzy about Apple’s iCloud services, it’s basically where users can upload and sync data on their phone with the cloud storage service. Not only can it sync your contacts, your calendars, your messages, your notes, but it can also backup your photos.

The hacker did not disclose how they managed to obtain the photos or how they hacked iCloud. According to actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead who was a victim of the hack, she claims that the photos that were leaked were taken a very long time ago and had long been deleted, suggesting that the photos stolen were from a backup service, such as iCloud or somewhere else.

It is also unclear as to how widespread the hack is. Was the hacker only targeting celebrities or were they targeting all Apple users who might have compromising photos or sensitive information in their iCloud storage? We guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this develops.

Samsung Unveils Curved Soundbar For IFA 2014

samsung soundbar 640x427While there are some users who prefer bookshelf speakers or larger tower-like speakers, sometimes space can be a bit constrained and that’s where soundbars come into the picture. Due to the compact nature, they can typically be fit underneath or on top of your television set and if you had your eye on a new soundbar speaker, you might be interested to learn that Samsung has something for you.

The South Korean tech giant is expected to show off a new soundbar at IFA 2014. However what makes this particular soundbar interesting is the fact that it is curved. It will feature a width of 42mm and a curvature radius of 4,200mm. So if you had your eyes on a curved TV from Samsung or if you already have one, we reckon this soundbar will fit just fine.

The soundbar will sport 8.1 channel support and will sport speaker units on either end of the device, which hopefully will allow a larger soundscape compared to regular soundbars or speaker units. The unit can also be controlled by the Samsung TV remote control and will pair with television sets via the TV SoundConnect technology, assuming that your TV supports it, of course.

Pricing and availability of the curved soundbar from Samsung remains unknown for now, but hopefully more will be revealed at IFA 2014 which will be kicking off this week, so be sure to check back with us later in the week for the details!

Moto X+1 Caught On Video, Several Features Detailed

According to an earlier leak, the alleged Moto X+1 was spotted in the flesh. While photos are great, we guess videos would be even better as they would allow us to see more angles of the device, and if a video was what you were after, the folks at TK Tech News (via Pocket Now) have recently released a video that shows off the handset a bit more.

Now if there is one thing the video points out, it is that the flash unit of the Moto X+1 is apparently around the camera lens itself, which you can check out in the video above and if you were to take a closer look at it. We’re not sure how this will work out and if the flash might interfere with the actual image, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and find out for ourselves.

The Motorola logo below the camera is also apparently the power button to the device, although once again we have to wonder if it might interfere with the operation of the phone as it could be easily pressed due to its placement. The video also shows off what appears to be a metal trim around the phone which we have to admit is a nice touch.

Now there are various sensors that can be seen on the front of the phone. It is unclear what they are for, but some have speculated that perhaps they could be used for the rumored 3D user interface of the phone, which is in line with earlier rumors that suggested that the phone could sport a 3D UI much like Amazon’s Fire Phone.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but with Motorola holding an event on the 4th of September, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out what’s real and what’s not.
