Report: iPhone Anti-Tracking Feature Only Works With Cell Data Off

Back at WWDC in June, Apple told the world that a new iOS 8 feature would stop marketers from spying on users through Wi-Fi . The feature is available now—but it turns out, it only works if you turn off your GPS and disable your cellular connection. Which isn’t quite as comprehensive as we may have thought.

This 3D Underwater Camera Rig Records Renewed Life on a Canadian Reef

Unless samples and specimens are brought up from the seafloor or researchers hop aboard a submersible, a significant portion of underwater exploration is done in 2D, but that could soon change thanks to the recent installation of a revolutionary new scientific camera rig. We’ll never look at the ocean’s depths the same way again.

Where to buy Sony's Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact

It’s a pretty interesting time to be in the market for a new mobile. Over the past month, we’ve seen Samsung’s Galaxy Alpha and Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch, not to mention Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 will join that list in a few weeks. And as if…

Say Ello to the anti-Facebook

Ello seems to have come out of nowhere.

The creators are designers and artists. Its CEO, Paul Budnitz, makes toys. There’s no big marketing push and no obvious ties to Silicon Valley. These are not the typical building blocks of a hot new social…

BlackBerry Hybrid Phone Hinges Work This Way

bb victoriaSlightly more than a week ago, we brought you word that BlackBerry could very well be working on a new hybrid device that is known as either Visa or Victoria (why did they not go with Visa or Master?). It is said that those handsets will be different – very different from the recently released BlackBerry Passport in terms of its hardware specifications and make up, especially since this one features a keyboard that can be partially hidden.

The above image would depict the way the mechanism works whenever you would need to type – and vice versa. Basically, the “Visa” or “Victoria” will both arrive alongside a large touchscreen display as well as a swiveling keypad, and this keypad is special since it can be tucked away when not in use.

This happens to be BlackBerry’s patent #8,830,667, where it has been dated September 9th and described to be a “storable keyboard having a pivoting cover“. Do you think that the BlackBerry Visa/BlackBerry Victoria will be able to make quite an impact on the smartphone scene when it arrives, or is it a case of being a little too late? As with any other good rumor, only time will be able to tell, but at least we now know how the mechanism works!

Flipboard For Windows Phone Available For Download

flipboard wpIn April at the BUILD conference this year, Flipboard for Windows Phone was spotted, although there was nothing official about it. Having said that, it seems that Flipboard has, at long last, ensured that its official first-party application today will be made available at no cost at all to those who happen to spend their time in the Windows Phone store.

Just in case you were wondering what makes Flipboard so interesting, this happens to be a news aggregate app which is capable of actually bringing together your social network feeds alongside specific news topics from different publications throughout the world. As for “flip” bit in its name, this is because you need to perform a flipping motion to go to the next bit of your news feed, just like how you would do with an IKEA BookBook.

Right now the release is not the final build, so do not express any form of surprise whatsoever if you so happen to come across some bugs as this is far from the finished article just yet. This must come across as a sigh of relief to Windows Phone users, considering how Flipboard has already been rocking on other mobile platforms such as iOS and Android for quite some time already. Ah well, better late than never, right?

Sunset Overdrive Runs At 900p, 30fps

sunset overdriveIt has been less than a week since the live action trailer of an upcoming Xbox One title, Sunset Overdrive, was shown off to the masses. If you were not taken away by the gorgeous graphics, then perhaps the technicalities of it all will change your mind. Apparently, Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games claimed that this particular title will be running at 900p resolution and 30 frames-per-second when it is finally released.

Having gleaned this particular information from an interview with IGN, Insomniac Games’ Ted Price did mention that Sunset Overdrive is not exactly the best example when it comes to open world games, especially after it itself has already broken many of the established rules. Not only that, Sunset Overdrive appears to be the largest game that Insomniac Games have ever created.

Price shared, “What happened for developers not using the Kinect is that there was a slight boost in CPU power that we got to take advantage of. This game really does push the limits when it comes to the number of enemies on screen, so it was useful for us to have more CPU juice to help with physics, navigation and AI. We’re running at 900p and 30 fps native. This is a game with a lot on the screen and we made the choice to be at 900 because we wanted to push the level of detail, action, the size of the city and the views you can experience as move around. What’s great about Sunset Overdrive is if you can see it, you can go there.”

Xbox One owners, take note that Sunset Overdrive will be released this coming October 28th.

Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 Up For Sale

titanium wind4Earlier this February, Microsoft did announce their new Windows Phone OEM partners, and Karbonn happened to be one of them. It is nice to note then, that Karbonn has kept good to their word, with the Titanium Wind W4 being the first Windows Phone handset from the manufacturer, and best of all is, it is going to go on sale for less than $100 over in India. This makes me wonder – will it have a negative impact on the entry level market that Google’s Android One intends to fill?

That is a question that has no clear cut answer, since no one is able to predict the future with 100% accuracy. Back to Karbonn Mobiles and the Titanium Wind W4 – this particular handset has gone on sale over in India, and it will arrive in red, white and black shades.

As for the hardware specifications that will accompany the Titanium Wind W4, we are looking at a 4” LCD display at WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory with a microSD memory card slot, a 5MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash, a front-facing camera, 3G support and Dual-SIM capability. Would you pick up the Titanium Wind W4 just for the sake of giving Windows Phone a try?
