Fancy A Kill Switch In Your Car?

car killswitchEarlier this month, we did read on how Apple devices are set to include a default kill switch as part of its setup, and if one were to roll back the clock by a few months, then we would have read about a mandatory kill switch bill in California having failed to get through the lawmakers. Having said that, what if your vehicle came with a kill switch? Yup, you read that right – the New York Times reports that there are approximately 2 million cars in the U.S. that do come with kill switches – which will shut down the ride once the owner fails to make the monthly payment.

The system works in a simple manner – the moment it is installed, the starter interrupt will remain where it is, beeping to notify drivers that their payment is about to be due. If the delinquent driver goes beyond a determined period of time, then there will be an account manager out there who decides to hit the button (gleefully, perhaps?) and the kill switch kicks in, with the engine being unable to start, until proper payment has been made.

Do you think that this should be made mandatory – not only in the U.S., but basically everywhere else that does dish out car loans?

Nissan Battles Pollution In London With LEAF

nissan clean upNissan, the Japanese automaker, has brought to the fore London’s fight for better air quality through the use of their 100% electric Nissan LEAF. The Nissan LEAF happens to hold the distinction of being the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in the world, and it is being used to power a striking piece of street art in Waterloo, London, which will show off the Capital’s skyline that has become an icon by itself.

Nissan commissioned Reverse Graffiti artist, Moose, in order to come up with this mass-scale mural which was finally unveiled today. Being different from traditional graffiti, Moose will work with a unique ‘canvas’ – by cleaning dirt off the different surfaces via a jet washer or wire brush, resulting in a striking design that is in the negative on the wall. Since most of the dirt accumulated happens to be the result of particulate matter from vehicle exhausts, these levels tend to exceed the guidelines and limits set in busy areas of London as well as other European cities.

The jet washer that Moose used is powered by the Nissan LEAF thanks to the LEAF to Home equipment, which happens to be a portable device that is capable of converting electricity from the car’s battery in order to deliver up to 2 days’ worth of juice to help a household run in an emergency. Post It Notes Get A Cool App

post it appI suppose you can say that one of the more important inventions for the office would be the ubiquitous Post-it Note – not only does it allow you to leave a short message for someone who is not around, the versatility of it is truly astounding, taking into consideration how you are able to paste it at different places regardless of the time of the day, and it even comes in striking colors so that your eyes will not be able to miss out on it – and the same goes to the intended recipient. Well, to keep up with the times, Post-it Notes will now be able to work in tandem with a new app from 3M on the Apple Store – that is the Post-it Plus app for iOS.

Basically, the Post-it Plus app for iOS is able to capture up to 50 of the squares at any one time using the Apple device’s camera. Once that is done, the app will let you perform a “Sorting Hat” process – by going through various categories and sharing these notes with other collaborators in a brainstorming session. Not only that, one can also opt to export to PowerPoint, Excel, Dropbox and other places as and when the need arises. There will be additional size compatibility coming soon, but for the moment, the app will only be able to recognize all square Post-it Notes.

Oppo N3 Getting A Stainless Steel Version Too

oppo n3 stainless steelIt was earlier this week when rumors of Oppo’s upcoming smartphone, the Oppo N3, was tipped to arrive in due time with some sort of aerospace grade material, and that particular rumor was seemingly confirmed to feature lithium aluminum alloy as one of the main “ingredients”, so to speak, in the creation of its chassis. That sounds expensive, and so it is with a collective sigh of relief that we hear the Oppo N3 will also arrive in a second variant – one that will carry something more down to earth, that is, rigid stainless steel that will help make sure the smartphone does not bend while it is in your pocket.

As at press time, it remains to be seen whether the lithium aluminum alloy or the rigid stainless steel models will come with similar hardware specifications as it is way too early to tell just yet, but one can speculate, yes?

After all, the hardware specifications sheet still remain mysteriously hidden away somewhere, and I am rather surprised that no one has managed to catch a leak of it somewhere – blurry photos or otherwise, not to mention a leaked benchmark result hiding somewhere. Ah well, there is not too much longer to wait, as it is said that the Oppo N3 will be announced next month.
