Paralyzed Bride's Triumphant Walk Down The Aisle Is A Sight To Behold

Six years ago, a car accident left Gina Giaffoglione paralyzed from the belly button down. But for her wedding earlier this month, the former gymnast was determined to walk down the aisle

“I told her, whether we roll down that aisle or whether we walk down that aisle, we’re gonna do this, whichever way we have to do it — it’s been her dream,” Gina’s father Gary told KETV 7 in Omaha.

Gina’s dream didn’t come easy though; It took months of physical therapy at CHI Health Rehabilitation just to teach her body how to stand up straight again after years in a wheelchair. It then took several more months to teach the bride-to-be how to walk with a custom-designed brace and crutch.

Despite the difficulty, Gina powered through a year and a half of therapy knowing there was a light at the end of the tunnel. “When you can’t feel anything, and you’re doing something you used to do that you used to take for granted — because I did, everybody does — when you’re back up and doing it, especially having dad on my arm, it’s a floating sensation you can’t even explain,” Gina said.

A sensation she got to feel again on September 18 when Gina surprised her wedding guests and walked down the aisle with her father on her arm and a giant smile on her face.

As for her groom, John Springhower, Gina says she’s lucky to have him. “He’s just that wonderful of a guy that he doesn’t see the chair. He just sees me for me and forgets about how I get around.”

The Best Commander-in-Chief of Our Generation?

2014-09-30-presidentobamakroft6014.jpg

Finally, he spoke and, as almost always, he made more sense than both his political opponents and the blind and blatant racists who just refuse to acknowledge the best in a fellow human being, a fellow American, a fellow child of God, a fellow who has been trusted TWICE, by the majority of Americans to lead our nation, America, the most powerful nation, at this time, in this time, for a long time.

This Sunday, September 28, 2014, in front of the cameras of CBS’s 60 Minutes, President Obama answered Steve Kroft’s questions or, rather, gave humanity lessons of profound wisdom (along with his remarks at the UN).

2014-09-30-ObamaatUN2014.jpg

As one of the majority of Americans who voted for him twice, I am happy and proud that our president is this extraordinary, deepest thinking, coolest-headed, and tempered-spirit.

Take, for instance, the continuous and simplistic brass-banging made daily by even “liberal” media that embrace and spew whatever “issues” the Obama-hate GOP and others manufacture and “plant” out there. One issue, as Steve Kroft puts it, is that America is “once again… on ‘war footing'”. In other words, Obama is becoming, a “war president”, taking America to war like his predecessor.

No, he is not a “war president”, and, no, he’s not taking America to war like his predecessor.

Our Thinker-in-Chief explains to us that there are truck-loads and plane-loads-of-troops’ difference between “counter-terrorism and the sort of occupying armies that characterized Iraq and Afghan war.” Put simply, fellow Americans, what the Commander-in-Chief we’ve trusted is leading our very able forces to do now “is very different from us having 150,000 troops in Iraq or 60,000 in Afghanistan.”

Simplistic thinkers and war hawks who want America to have “boots on the ground” for ISIS-ISIL to be defeated are not the Commander-in-Chief, thank God. The territory that ISIS has occupied is not just “desert”, and those people fleeing from ISIS and those being slaughtered by ISIS belong to nations (Iraq, Syria,…) which must put their own boots on the ground, with America’s help in equipment and strategy (in Iraq) and America and its allies’ air-degrading attacks on ISIS (in both).

There’s precedence: After 9/11, the US, using air power without boots on the ground in Afghanistan, had both Al Qaeda and the Taliban on the run and on the brink of total defeat until the US dropped the ball on Afghanistan by starting a war in Iraq – which had nothing to do with 9/11.

On Syria, the simple minded and war hawks declare that if President Obama had either bombed Syria or provided weapons to the opposition, we wouldn’t have ISIS today. Again, thank God they are not our Commander-in-Chief. Their one dimensional evaluations and opinions fail to see deep and understand that, as our president put it, Syria is “a contradiction in a contradictory land and a contradictory circumstance.”

All the critics see is “if we attack ISIS in Syria we help Assad.” Thank heavens our president looks at all facets of the contradiction that is Syria, with its civil war (Sunni-Shiite) that is made more contradictory with the myriads of extremist and even terrorist groups, big and small, on both the Sunni side and the Shiite side, and our president has the sophisticated intellect and vision necessary to navigate America where we do not get bogged down in a quagmire, even when confronted with ISIS in Syria. As President puts it to Steve Kroft, “… there’s a more immediate concern that has to be dealt with.” America has to balance between Syria’s internal contradictions with the “immediate threats to the United States (whereby) ISIL, Khorasan group, those folks (who) could kill Americans.” Therefore, for our president, protecting American lives is priority number ONE. Thus, attacking ISIS and the Khorasan group in Syria is this priority.

On the president’s low public opinion polls in America:

Two reasons why a president who has accomplished more than any of his recent predecessors has low approval poll numbers: one, the republicans’ 6 years’ outright distortions, lies, and total negative campaigns spewing total untruths about the state of America and the accomplishments of President Obama.

And two, my Democratic Party is inept in media campaign or in public opinion wars. If a republican president had accomplished 25% of what President Obama has accomplished, Republicans would win these upcoming midterm elections hands down. But Democrats don’t fight back or don’t fight hard, or else, they don’t campaign to tout long and hard the great accomplishments that have been achieved under President Obama.

A rare exception, Rachel Maddow of MSNBC has spent some quality time of her show documenting the accomplishments of this president. Unfortunately, she does not run the DNC.

President Obama to 60 Minutes: “When I came into office, our economy was in crisis. We had unemployment up at 10 percent. It’s now down to 6.1. We’ve had the longest run of uninterrupted private sector job growth in our history. We have seen deficits cut by more than half. Corporate balance sheets are probably the best they’ve been in the last several decades. We are producing more energy than we had before. We are producing more clean energy than we ever had before. I can put my record against any leader around the world in terms of digging ourselves out of a terrible, almost unprecedented financial crisis. Ronald Reagan used to ask the question, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” In this case, are you better off than you were in six? And the answer is, the country is definitely better off than we were when I came into office…”

But then comes the destroyer’s destructive negating of a positive: “the people don’t feel it”… In other words, Americans are constantly being bombarded with the campaign of lies that tells them that “the reality of Obama’s accomplishments is not real for you.” Hence, the low opinion polls for President Obama.

The lesson: the accomplishments cannot speak for themselves when the opposition has sworn, from the get-go, to deny anything you accomplish and to make you a failed leader even when you have achieved so much. You must fight a negative with 2 positives. You must destroy the lies with a more powerful and sustained attack with the truth, otherwise, lies will win: ask Dukakis and ask one of my heroes, John Kerry…

Paul Ryan Says: I Won't Run For President In 2016 If Mitt Romney Runs Again

Paul Ryan is hesitant to discuss whether he’ll make a run for the White House in 2016, but he told HuffPost Live he definitely won’t mount a campaign if his former running mate Mitt Romney decides to give it another try.

“I wouldn’t if he were. I would support Mitt. If he were to run, I would not,” Ryan said Tuesday. “But I don’t even know if I’m going to either myself. That’s something I’m going to decide in 2015.”

Romney recently added fuel to the speculation that he may not be done chasing the presidency during an interview with The New York Times. Asked if there’s a chance he may run again in 2016, Romney said, “We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race. We’ll see what happens.”

Ryan told HuffPost Live that the country should “take Mitt at his word” that he is not planning another campaign.

“He thinks his time has come and gone. He wants other people to get into the race,” Ryan said. “I think a lot of people, especially on our side of the aisle — I am one of those, by the way — think he would be a fantastic candidate. I would like to see him run again, but I think he’s pretty clear that it’s definitely not his intention. He’s not trying to start this buzz, he’s not trying to mount another comeback.”

Ryan joined HuffPost Live to talk with host Marc Lamont Hill about his new book, The Way Forward: Renewing The American Idea.

Elon Musk Wants To Put A Million People On Mars. Here's Why

No one has been to Mars yet, and Elon Musk wants to change that in a big way. The SpaceX CEO says we need to put a million people on the Red Planet just to make sure human civilization survives.

“I think there is a strong humanitarian argument for making life multi-planetary… in order to safeguard the existence of humanity in the event that something catastrophic were to happen,” Musk said in a recent interview with the digital magazine Aeon.

Musk’s comment sounds ominous but may not be off the mark, given the threats of climate change and space rocks.

Just what would it take to move so many people to Mars?

“Excluding organic growth, if you could take 100 people at a time, you would need 10,000 trips to get to a million people,” Musk told Aeon. “But you would also need a lot of cargo to support those people. In fact, your cargo to person ratio is going to be quite high. It would probably be 10 cargo trips for every human trip, so more like 100,000 trips. And we’re talking 100,000 trips of a giant spaceship.”

This isn’t the first time Musk has made a pitch for colonizing Mars. At the AllThingsD’s 2013 conference last year, Musk said, “Either we spread Earth to other planets, or we risk going extinct… An extinction event is inevitable and we’re increasingly doing ourselves in.”

Got it.

"Drag Race" Superstars Team Up For 'American Apparel Ad Girls' (VIDEO)

Talk about a triple threat: “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stars Willam, Courtney Act and Alaska recently teamed up for a collaboration with American Apparel and now the fearsome threesome has released a new single and video to accompany it.

The song, “American Apparel Ad Girls,” is a parody of Capital Cities’ “Farrah Fawcett Hair” and the video for the single, above, hit YouTube this morning.

“Every little boy dreams of being on a baseball card — other than the ones that dream Linda Evangelista-esque dreams of modeling like this,” Willam told The Huffington Post. “American Apparel has continually supported artists and I love that we can bring attention from our campaign for them to some of our favorite causes — ourselves AND the ethical manufacturing of these super cool t shirts.”

Courtney Act loves that, “American Apparel supports artists and I love that they chose we three drag artists to co-lab with on this project. It feels so legitimizing to be supported by such a huge global brand,” adding that the in-store signing the queens did when the shirts debuted “was absolutely massive… there was a line around the store and down the block and it was the most I had felt like a Spice Girl in my entire life and my childhood goal was to be a Spice Girl.”

Alaska added, “I love American Apparel’s clothes because of the chic simplicity of design and their beautiful array of colors. Plus they’re all made right here in downtown LA using ethical manufacturing practices. Who could ask for anything more? Buy our t-shirts, because who doesn’t love a good-looking top?”

Good point, right?

The limited edition line of t-shirts bearing an original image of each artist is available online and in American Apparel stores now. “American Apparel Ad Girls” is available for download on iTunes.

The MeTime Eye and Temple Massager soothes tired eyes

The MeTime Eye and Temple massager

Working long hours and not getting enough sleep will do a number on your body. Usually that lifestyle coincides with not eating correctly or drinking enough water as well, leaving you tired, cranky, and feeling awful a lot of the time. While stress manifests itself most often in facial breakouts and muscle tension, it can also give you headaches, which makes doing anything a challenge. Of course, when it comes to your head hurting, the tiniest things can annoy you almost immediately since the pain is harder to ignore.

If you happen to be plagued with these frequently, then you’ve likely gone through a multitude of ways to deal with them. Drinking teas, trying to gulp down more water, or just resting your eyes for a while are solid ideas, but sometimes that’s not enough. The MeTime Eye and Temple Massager uses vibration, pressure point massage, and heat compression to relax the muscles around your temples, forehead, and eyes. It targets 11 different acupuncture points that will hopefully give your noggin a little bit of relief.

You can choose what combination of heat, compression, and music you get for the 15 minute cycle. This will cost you around $202, and will hopefully be worth the money you’d have to put into it. This will either help your headache or make it much worse, but that remains to be seen. The only thing you’ll need to keep in mind is that you need to charge this prior to use.

Available for purchase on Unikia
