Given that technology has advanced significantly over the past few years we have seen considerable changes in many sectors. Mobile devices like tablets have infiltrated the education sector and developers have come up with applications that are meant to help students in their quest for knowledge. Cloud storage companies have targeted students as well and Google raised the bar today with Drive for Education. Supporting individual files up to 5TB Google Drive for Education brings unlimited cloud storage for students.

Google Drive has been available for a little over two years. Google says that it is now used as a sharing solution by more than 190 million people around the world with as many as 30 million students and teachers using Google Apps for Education.

After launching a premium version of Google Apps for Work the company is now bringing the same idea over to students. Drive for Education will be available for all Google Apps for Education users at no additional cost and will bring unlimited cloud storage, enhanced auditing tools as well as an API for seeing activity of a file, and Google Apps Vault which is a search and discovery solution for compliance needs, it will be available by the end of this year.

Google reiterates the security features and points out that all files uploaded to Drive are encrypted not only between device and services but also when they’re at rest on Google servers.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime

galaxy grand primeWe did hear about a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime that was leaked some time in the middle of this month, and it seems that whatever rumors that surrounded this particular smartphone will be put to bed as the handset has officially rolled out over in India, carrying the model number SM-G530H alongside it. This is a new and affordable Android-powered device which was first seen in Vietnam not too long ago.

Just what kind of confirmed hardware specifications will the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime come with? For starters, there is a 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera which is perfect for selfies – as well as capturing photos of folks in a large group. Right at the back, you will also be able to stash away memories in 8MP resolution for posterity, and the rear camera can also handle 1080p video recording, too.

Android 4.4 KitKat is the mobile operating system of choice, where it will be accompanied by a 5” display at 540 x 960 pixels resolution, 3G connectivity, a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of internal memory. Out later this week in India, the world’s second most populous country, do expect it to retail somewhere in the region of $250 after conversion – and to have it appear in other countries in due time, too.

Samsung Speaks Out Regarding Galaxy Note 4 Design Flaw

galaxy note 4 issues

Samsung was pretty quick to jump on the #bendgate bandwagon, an issue that caused certain iPhone 6 Plus units to bend when they were carried around in a particularly tight pocket. Earlier this week a potential design flaw with its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 4, was reported as well. Early adopters found that there was a gap between the display and the frame in which one could easy fit a business card. Samsung has now spoken out regarding this potential flaw.

In a statement provided to Trusted Reviews, Samsung says that this reported issue does not “impact the functionality or quality of the Galaxy Note 4.” Adding that it assures customers that all of its Galaxy Note 4 units meet “strict manufacturing and quality control standards.”

A previous report claimed that Samsung was aware of this issue and is presumably working to fix it before the units start shipping next month. You wouldn’t be wrong to chalk its latest statement up as pure PR talk, the gap is there on some units, and it remains to be seen if it really is that widespread and we will only be able to find that out once the release takes place in October.

Samsung has already released the Galaxy Note 4 down in South Korea. Currently pre-orders are being taken in the U.S. as well as several countries across Europe.

Ostrich Pillow Mini Hopes To Be A Kickstarter Success

ostrich pillow miniThe Ostrich Pillow started life off as an idea, and thanks to the crowdfunding platform that is known as Kickstarter, it became reality – and a hit, to say the least. Having said that, every hit deserves a sequel as long as there is more money to milk from the masses, which is why the Ostrich Pillow Mini has surfaced – also appealing to the masses over at Kickstarter in order to raise the necessary amount of funds to turn it from a dream into reality.

The Ostrich Pillow Mini has been described to be a “handy, personal power nap pillow”, where you can carry it with you, letting it fit into your busy lifestyle. Basically, you are able to use the Ostrich Pillow Mini on your hand, arm or elbow, allowing your head to get some much needed shuteye at the desired resting point.

This is definitely one way to catch up on your sleep without having to make compromises in terms of comfort and time, but it would not work too well if you are a light sleeper. The Ostrich Pillow Mini is a design evolution that opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to getting some rest while you are being mobile.

Windows 10 Is Next Microsoft Windows Version Name

windows10Forget everything that you have heard about Windows 9 – that is not going to be the next version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, as it looks as though Microsoft has decided to skip a number and go straight for Windows 10. Could they be looking at working with even numbers only? Who knows? One thing is for sure though, there will be no Windows 9 or “Threshold”.

Windows 10 looks set to be a single operating system that will not differentiate between the likes of smartphones, tablets, desktops, and laptops – I suppose you can say that this is an all-in-one operating system that will bring a slew of devices together.

Right now, Microsoft does offer software specific to certain platforms, and it looks as though with the advent of Windows 10, we will be able to see a culmination in the effort to bring about the Windows Phone, Windows RT, Windows, and the Xbox operating system closer together. Windows 10 will also see a solitary Windows Store made available to the masses, where it sports apps which will run on all Windows 10-powered hardware – regardless of whether they are mobile or stationary.

Needless to say, Windows 10 will feature different looks when it is on a desktop compared to a tablet to increase functionality, and for many, they will most probably be happy to hear that the Charms Menu is not going to survive the cull. A full launch of Windows 10 is tipped to happen some time next year.

Basis Peak Health Watch Powered By Intel

intel basis peakEarlier this year, we managed to catch a glimpse of the Basis B1 wearable device that featured advanced sleep analysis – and it might seem to be a pretty difficult act to follow up. However, that is not quite the case, as here we are with the Basis Peak health watch that is a whole lot more aesthetically pleasing compared to its predecessor, it is also set to arrive later this November, carrying an asking price of $199 a pop.

Intel did pick up Basis earlier this year, as Intel used this opportunity to take a peek into the world of wearable devices. After all, it makes perfect sense, and imagine the kind of collaboration that Intel would end up with if they could come up with a chip worthy of a place in small and connected devices. Why not start off with your own hardware to get the ball rolling, right?

The Basis Peak might not be an Apple Watch or Moto 360, but it is still a whole lot better looking compared to its predecessor, where it now sports a metal case, a design that is far more svelte, and a touchscreen that will replace what physical buttons ought to do. There is also an improved optical sensor that does a better job at tracking your heart rate. Any takers?

Eye Contact Can Make The Most Mundane Things Seem Creepy

Eating a banana? Typing? Washing your hands? Putting on Chapstick?

It doesn’t matter, because the moment you lock eyes with someone while you’re doing whatever it is you’re doing, you’ll automatically become creepy.

Observe:

Yup, there’s no two ways about it. Eye contact makes everything unnecessarily intense.
