Friction welding spins so fast and burns so hot that it looks like the excess orange metal is something that’s not meant for this world. The metal pipes forge together so colorfully (and almost unnaturally) that I never get bored of watching the process.

We’ve seen some pretty nifty uses for virtual reality since the Oculus Rift hit the scene (bird-simulator, anyone?), but nothing quite like Tilt Brush. At its core, the app is a 3D painting program. Boiling it down to that is a little disingenuous,…
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Mo’ne Davis’ performance in the Little League World Series has earned her a place in baseball’s Hall of Fame.
The 13-year-old Davis plans to donate the jersey she wore last month when she pitched a two-hit shutout, becoming the first girl to win a game at the LLWS. She will visit the Hall on Thursday with her Little League teammates from Philadelphia’s Taney Dragons and the Anderson Monarchs, her longtime travel team. Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, one of three women to play in the Negro Leagues, also plans to attend.
Davis and her teammates are scheduled to play the Catskill Mountain Cougars under-12 team from Stamford, New York, in an exhibition game Sunday at Doubleday Field.
Louisiana Teen Fatally Shot During Altercation With Police Deputy, Authorities Say
Posted in: Today's ChiliNEW ORLEANS, Sept 23 (Reuters) – A 14-year-old boy was shot dead during an altercation with a police officer who was investigating reports of armed males entering an abandoned house in a small city near New Orleans, Louisiana state police said on Tuesday.
The altercation between the Terrebonne Parish deputy and the alleged intruders was inside a home in a heavily residential area of Houma, about 57 miles southwest of New Orleans, Louisiana State Police spokesman Evan Harrell said.
A weapon was found “in close proximity” to the victim’s body, Harrell said, adding a fifth person was being sought by police after escaping from the home.
Deputies were responding to 911 emergency calls of armed individuals entering the house, he said.
The shooting was being investigated by state police at the request of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, Harrell said.
Two juveniles and a 18-year-old were arrested, but police were not releasing their identities, Harrell said. The three suspects are facing possible criminal trespassing charges.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two newly released photos of Phil Spector show the toll of age and prison on the once flamboyant music legend.
The most recent photo shows a bald, somber-looking 73-year-old Spector staring straight into the camera on Oct. 28, 2013.
An earlier photo of a smiling Spector is dated July 24, 2013.
California Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said Tuesday that the October photo was taken when Spector was moved to the prison system’s huge California Heath Care Facility in Stockton. The facility provides medical and mental health care to the state’s sickest inmates, including those with chronic conditions.
Thornton said she couldn’t reveal details of Spector’s health because of state medical privacy regulations. He is serving 19 years to life for the 2003 killing of actress Lana Clarkson.
The legendary music producer revolutionized rock music with his “Wall of Sound” before his genius was eclipsed by decades of bizarre behavior that culminated in his conviction for murder. He claimed he was innocent and his defense team argued that Clarkson, despondent over a fading acting career, killed herself at his castle-like home.
His appearance in bizarre wigs at his trials and testimony about violent behavior tarnished his reputation as a musical genius who created the “Wall of Sound” that merged beautiful vocal harmonies with lavish orchestral arrangements to produce such pop hits as “Da Doo Ron Ron,” ”Be My Baby” and “He’s a Rebel.” His production of the Righteous Brothers’ version of “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling” remains a classic.
His first jury deadlocked, but a second one found him guilty of second-degree murder in 2009 six years after Clarkson’s death. By then, he had married his much-younger wife, Rachelle, who was at his side throughout the trials and continues to live at the mansion and visits him in prison.
When iRobot released the first Roomba, the world was excited. But that excitement didn’t last too long, when people find out that it was more of a status symbol than an actual effective cleaning machine. Dyson tries to change this with their all new 360 Eye. It’s the first robotic vacuum cleaner with tank tracks and 360-degree vision. It can surpass all household terrains, and it snaps about 30 images per second to map your room for speedy and thorough cleaning.
Dyson plans to release the first 360 Eye in Japan sometime in 2015, targeting the country’s small apartments and its adaptability to revolutionary technological advancements. It will retail for about £700 but that’s a fair price considering its £28 million development costs, which spans over 16 years of research.
The 360 Eye holds a 0.4 liter container and can operate for 20 to 30 minutes straight before auto-docking for a recharge. It also comes with an iOS and Android app to setup the bot and assign cleaning schedules.
Though the new iPhone is called the iPhone 6, we’re actually on the 8th generation of iPhone that has existed. But who cares about that. Let’s just see how much the camera—maybe the most important feature on the iPhone after messaging—has improved over those 8 generations. Hint: a lot.
India just cemented its place as a space power, and put NASA’s billions to shame, with the news that its $74 million space probe just entered Mars orbit.
