Beats Files Lawsuit Against Steven Lamar For Claiming “Co-Founder” Status

iovine and dreWhile Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine might be the more recognizable faces of Beats, there were others who were also involved with founding the audio company. One of them is Steven Lamar who alleges that he is one of the co-founders of the company. In fact he has used his co-founder status to help promote his own company, ROAM, which made the headphones that you can see above.

However it seems that Beats is not happy with Lamar’s use of his co-founder status and have recently filed a lawsuit against Lamar for apparently placing misleading statements on his website claiming that he was the co-founder of Beats. However according to Lamar, he claims that he was the first to come up with the idea for a headphones brand using cutting edge technology and backed up by a prominent artist at the same time.

He claims to have met up with Jimmy Iovine who then recommended Dr. Dre for the job. According to the lawsuit, “He does not have — nor has he ever had — any ownership interest in the company. Moreover, Jibe Audio was not responsible for the ‘concept, design, manufacturing and distribution’ of Beats’ headphones.”

It is unclear as to how this will be settled, but prior to Beats being acquired by Apple, Lamar had managed to retain a 4% royalty sales on some of the headphones made by the company, although he did file a countersuit earlier this year in which he alleged that the contract had been breached. In any case if you want additional details, you can check out the official complaint that Beats has filed against Lamar.

iPhone 6 Approved For Sale In China, Pre-Orders Begin 10th October

apple store chinaWhile the iPhone 6 might have launched in multiple countries, there were some who were a little concerned about the iPhone’s launch in China. This is because the device had yet to be officially certified, and with China being one of Apple’s newer and larger markets, it is an important one and a timely launch is key to Apple doing well.

In fact some have speculated that the phone could have been delayed, but thankfully it looks like phone has been officially certified and approved for sale in the country. This is according to a report from Reuters which revealed that Apple had cleared regulatory hurdles and has received the necessary licenses to sell the phone in the country.

Apparently Apple had agreed to some conditions laid out by regulators, such as making undisclosed changes to the privacy settings on the device. It seems that one of the concerns was whether Apple staff could access the data on an iPhone user’s device while repairing it. Apple has reassured regulators that they have never installed backdoors on its products or services that will allow access from government agencies.

The regulators’ skepticism is warranted as the Snowden reports have suggested that the US government’s NSA has the ability to spy on user data through backdoors installed on certain products. It has also been revealed that the iPhone 6 pre-orders for China will be kicking off on the 10th of October and will officially be going on sale come 17th of October.

Microsoft Updates Bing Apps For Windows Phone, Rebranded To MSN

bing financeThere have been rumors suggesting that Microsoft could be getting ready to announce a rebranding of some of their products. This includes the rebranding of Windows Phone to just Windows, and their Nokia devices to Microsoft devices. Well it looks like Microsoft’s Bing apps are getting a rebranding of their own.

The company has recently updated their suite of Bing apps on the Windows Phone platform and have since taken out the Bing name and replaced it with MSN in its place. However it seems that apart from the name change, the update has not brought about any new features or improvements to the apps, so it looks like the update will just be to reflect the new branding.

This move was actually announced by Microsoft earlier this month it was only a few days ago that Microsoft updated Bing Finance and changed its name to just Money for Windows Phone, complete with the MSN branding. However we guess today’s update applies the MSN branding across the board so for those who rely on apps like Bing Travel, Bing Finance, Bing Sports, Bing Food & Drink, Bing Health & Fitness, Bing News, and Bing Weather, be prepared for a rebranding so that you won’t get confused if you’re trying to look for the app post-update.

Nokia Lumia 830 Rumored For AT&T Come 7th November

lumia830 chinaEarlier this month, Microsoft had officially announced the Nokia Lumia 830 and according to AT&T, they have plans to launch the device, although no specific dates were mentioned. Well according to the folks at Windows Phone Central, they have heard that it is possible that AT&T could be getting ready to sell the device come 7th of November.

Unfortunately there was no price mentioned, although given that the phone is priced close to $400 for an unlock model via eBay, there is a good chance that the phone might be priced pretty affordably with a new contract, although this is simply speculation on our part and we’ll just have to wait and see what AT&T has in store for us.

The rumored 7th of November launch is also in line with Stephen Elop’s estimation where he predicted that they would be selling the phone before the holidays. However it seems that over in China, they will be getting their hands on the phone before the US as the phone has been pegged for a release on the 13th of October.

For those who might have missed our coverage, the Nokia Lumia 830 will sport a 5-inch HD display and will feature a ClearBlack IPS LCD display with a Gorilla Glass 3 cover. It will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and will come with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. It will also feature a 10MP PureVIew camera with ZEISS optics, a 0.9MP front-facing camera, and NFC and Bluetooth connectivity.

Windows 9 Could Come With Real-Time Telemetry System

microsoft logoIf the reports are to be believed, later today we could be given a preview of Microsoft’s next-generation Windows operating system, which at the moment could either be known as Windows 9 or Windows Threshold, depending on which rumor you buy into. That being said, it is understandable that many are curious as to what the next-generation Windows could bring to the table.

Well according to the folks at ZDNet, one of the new features of Windows 9 is a feature that has been given the codename “Asimov”. Originally designed by the Xbox team, Asimov is said to be a backend system that will allow the Windows operating system team to see what is going on in a person’s PC in almost real-time.

We’re not sure how this will work specifically, but the goal here is to see what is going on in a user’s machine to better identify problems that need fixing and to also be able to issue updates to these problems in a more timely manner. This is apparently a real-time telemetry system which admittedly sounds a tad invasive, but hopefully Microsoft will be able to explain it better.

ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley also suggests that Asimov can be used by Microsoft to see how successful the different features they are rolling out to their customers are. In any case we only have a few hours until more details are hopefully revealed, so do check back with us later in the day for more official information.

Windows TH Moniker Spotted On Microsoft Landing Page

windows technical preview th leak 100462630 largeLater today we can expect Microsoft to make some kind of Windows-related announcement, which many have speculated could be about the next-generation Windows. At the moment some are calling it Windows 9 due to the natural progression after Windows 8, but at the same time the name “Windows Threshold” has been tossed around a fair bit as well, so which is it?

Well according to several sightings over the weekend by The Verge and Neowin, the name Windows TH has been spotted on a landing page of its own at the TechNet website, which for those unfamiliar is Microsoft’s information portal for IT professionals. According to the landing page, it also had a headline which read, “Windows Technical Preview for Enterprise” and also referred to Windows TH as the next version of the Windows platform.

The page has since been removed, unsurprisingly, but the Windows TH name does leave little to the imagination as we can only speculate that “TH” stands for “Threshold”. Or so we hope. However it does seem a little odd for a name as Threshold does seem more like a codename Microsoft would use internally as opposed to a name they would try and market.

After all we’ve have Windows 7, Windows 8, so Windows 9 would not be that much of a stretch. In any case like we said, later today Microsoft should be sharing some additional details about their next Windows build, so do check back with us then for the details.
