Scientists make an invisibility cloak using off-the-shelf optical lenses

Most invisibility cloaks require fairly exotic technology to work, such as fiber optics or light-altering metamaterials. That’s not very practical, especially since the illusion still tends to break when you move. The University of Rochester may have…

Haven Strong Locker Kicks Off Kickstarter Project

havenGoing away on a long holiday in a faraway land is definitely one of the joys in life, but along the way, one would also have to take into consideration that there needs to be some sort of peace of mind when you travel – knowing that your home is well looked after, not to mention the fact that you should also purchase travel insurance. Having said that, here is a Kickstarter project that might just pique your interest – in the form of the Haven Strong Locker.

The Haven Strong Locker is touted to be a smart and strong locker which offers protection for your doors from thieves. Why is it smart? Well, you are able to control it remotely, where you can lock it through a smartphone app or a web app. Basically, have Internet, will travel, unless you happen to be trekking your way to a place where it is far too remote for there to be a decent signal on your smartphone, let alone a data-capable line.

Right now, the Haven Strong Locker will have apps on Android and iOS platforms, with work being done on a Windows app. Haven will also be able to hook up to other smart home products. If it detects something suspicious in the area, it can toggle your Philips Hue lights to turn itself on, and a full charge offers up to half a year of battery power. The asking price for the Haven Strong Locker? You will need to pledge at least $269, and shipping is set to commence by August 2015 onward.

Microsoft Confirms Future Flagship Store On Fifth Avenue

microsoft logo1There were whispers heard some time this August of Microsoft actually working to open up a new Fifth Avenue store over in New York, and it seems as though those rumored will pan out to be true in due time. In fact, the software giant has already confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that they will open the doors to their new “flagship store” over at 677 Fifth Avenue in New York City.

So far, the software giant, who also does some hardware on the side like its Surface range of tablets, has already opened up over 100 standard and specialty store locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and this particular Fifth Avenue store will be a special one indeed.

David Porter, the corporate vice president for Microsoft’s retail stores, said, “As our first flagship store, it will serve as the centerpiece of our Microsoft Stores experience. This is a goal we’ve had since day one—we were only waiting for the right location. And now we have it.”

It is said that this Fifth Avenue store will feature an “experiential space” for customers, although additional details have yet to be revealed. Are you looking forward to picking up your next Surface tablet or copy of Windows there in the near future?

Assassin’s Kittens Unity Looks Legendary

When it comes to the Internet and cats, you know that there is plenty going on there between the two for some strange reason, so much so that there was even an Internet Cat Festival which was held in the U.K. last year. Well, for those of you out there who happen to be huge fans of the Assassin’s Creed series of games, here is something that will make you laugh – especially when the weekend draws to a close, and a whole brand new work week kicks off from tomorrow onward. I am referring to the Assassin’s Kittens Unity parody video that you see above.

Kittens are extremely adorable, no one can deny that, and in the Assassin’s Kittens Unity, you will see how a few of these super cute felines will actually play the role of your favorite assassins from the flagship game franchise from the folks over at Ubisoft. Of course, they might not be able to actually execute what they are meant to do – that is to live up to their namesake and actually perform an assassination, but if cute looks could kill (like Nermal from the Garfield comic series), then I can safely say that these bunch of kittens would have a 100% success rate – every single time.

Two Far Cry 4 Bundles To Arrive In Europe

fc4 bundleIt looks as though there will be more than one – totaling two, official Sony PS4 bundles for Far Cry 4 when it launches in Europe in the near future. Those who love choice will be pleased to take note of the bundled offer, where both the Far Cry 4 PS4 traditional black as well as brand new crystal white bundles will feature a special edition copy of the game that has been boxed alongside the spanking new, 500GB PlayStation which will in turn be accompanied by a DualShock 4 controller. Do take note, however, that these particular two PS4 bundles will be different in terms of the console as well as controller color schemes.

Of course, for those who are not too stoked about the Far Cry 4 PS4 bundles can always skip getting it, since there is the option of actually picking up the standalone game as it is released on the Sony PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms later this coming November 18th. As for the official pricing details for the bundle deal, those have yet to be determined as at press time, although one can more or less make an educated guess for the price to remain somewhere in the region of £384.99 each thereabouts.

Arduboy Lets You Play Tetris On A Bracelet

What are some of the places where one can play the classic block puzzle game Tetris? Well, some folks do bring their Game Boy with them wherever they went in the past, which means Tetris is playable all over the place, while others have managed to actually enabled a game of Tetris to be played on a building itself – yes sir, you read that right! This time around, here is a unique way of playing Tetris – by doing so on a wearable bracelet which in turn makes one of the most popular puzzle games in the world to be transformed into a fashion statement.

While it would not be right to actually expect this to be an actual full fledged game of Tetris that can be played on your wrist, it is meant to be more of a tech demo which will be able to depict the Ardubracelet’s trio of OLED displays, touch-sensitive circuits, as well as extremely flexible design. There is a multi-screen user interface which makes it does more than just games alone, but who can actually resist the lure and temptation of Tetris in the first place? The Ardubracelet remains as an early prototype right now, but do expect its design to be refined in due time.

The three OLED displays happen to measure 0.66″ in size each, and are located on a flexible circuit board powered by Arduino.

Personhood to Personhood Combat in Fox 31 Interview

In an explosive interview broadcast Sunday, Republican senatorial candidate Cory Gardner told Fox 31 Denver’s Eli Stokols four times that a federal “personhood” bill does not exist, even though Gardner cosponsored such a bill just last year.

But Stokols repeatedly challenged Gardner, first saying, “Cory, the people who wrote that bill, Congressmen Duncan Hunter of California, Paul Broun of Georgia, they say-Personhood USA says-that that is what the Life at Conception Act is.”

Gardner tried to change the topic, but Stokols would have none of it, interrupting Gardner and saying, “The facts are–“

Gardner quickly interrupted Stokols, and said, “No, the facts are, Eli, that there is no federal personhood bill. There is no federal personhood bill. I think what you’re seeing, Eli, is an effort by Sen. Udall to run away from his record on energy, to run away from his failed record on the economy. Here is a man–“

Stokols told Gardner he’d “grill” Udall next week on his show, but for now, he wanted to know about the federal personhood bill, which aims to ban abortion, even for rape, and some forms of birth control.

“The bill that your name is on defines personhood as beginning at the moment of fertilization,” Stokols told Gardner. “Many think it has the potential to ban a number of forms of birth control. Factcheck.org says that you still support a federal bill that would prompt the same concerns over birth control as the state measure that you reject on the same grounds.”

“I do not support legislation that would ban birth control. That’s crazy! I would not support that. I do not support efforts that would ban birth control… Mark Udall is running away from his record and trying to distract the voters with things he would like people believe that simply aren’t true.”

“He’s not the only one who sees the Life at Conception Act as a personhood bill,” Stokols told Gardner. “The sponsors do. Personhood USA does. ..You are sitting here telling me that a bill that everyone says is basically a personhood bill at the federal level, you’re telling me it’s not?”

Sparks flew a while longer, but Gardner got the final utterance before a commercial break.

“There is no federal personhood bill,” Gardner said, never saying what he thinks Life at Conception Act actually is.
