Acer Aspire R 13 And R 14 Series Laptops Announced

Aspire R13 right facing Ezel mood 640x640It seems that Acer is not content with just announcing their new Aspire Switch series because the company has also taken the wraps off their new Aspire R 13 and R 14 laptops. The R 13 laptops are particularly interesting because its display is supported on what Acer is calling an Ezel Aero Hinge.

As you can see in the image above, it allows the display of the laptop to be adjusted at different angles, and according to Acer, it can also be used to help bring the display closer to the user’s face which could come in handy for certain situations. The R 13 laptops will also come in either Full HD or WQHD resolutions, depending on your preference, and will also pack Intel Core i5 or i7, once again depending on your needs.

The laptop will also be able to support SSD storage up to 1TB and 8GB of RAM, although we reckon this could get pretty expensive. The laptops will also come with Dolby Digital Plus Home Theatre audio technology, so for those who are particular about their sound, then this could be a laptop worth checking out. The Aspire R 13 laptops will be available this October where it will be priced starting at $899.99.

Aspire R14 straight on Win 640x450Moving on, we have the Aspire R 14 series which is expected to be available this October as well and will be priced starting from $599.99. The R 14 laptops will sport a 14-inch display with a resolution of 1366×768. It also comes with Zero Air Gap technology which Acer claims will help to eliminate the reflections in sunlight, as well as offer up better contrast and crisper images.

Users will be able to choose between Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 configurations and will also be able to install as much as 12GB of RAM. In terms of storage, there are 500GB or 1TB options and for those looking for some graphics power, there will be some models that supports the NVIDIA GeForce 820M GPU. So, which of these two devices would you be more interested in?

Openmix Lets You Experience What It’s Like To Be A DJ

openmix 640x478There are plenty of apps available at the moment that allow users to mix songs like they would if they were a DJ standing in front of actual consoles. Unfortunately the small-ish screens means that mixing songs can feel a little cramped, so if you’re looking for something a bit bigger but don’t want to spend money on buying actual turntables, perhaps Openmix might be an accessory worth checking out.

As you can see in the image above, Openmix is an accessory that basically connects two audio sources together, and in this case it seems to pair two smartphones together, although we reckon it could work with other devices like tablets. That being said, the accessory will also come with a crossfader that allows users to make smooth transitions when moving in between songs.

In terms of input and output, the Openmix device will feature two 3.5mm male stereo jacks as well as a 3.5mm female stereo socket for audio input, and another 3.5mm female socket for audio output. This means that you could connect the device to multiple sources. One of the examples the creators provided show how you could connect Openmix to a tablet where you could add extra effects to your mix, as well as connecting to a set of speakers or headphones.

Unfortunately Openmix isn’t available yet as it is a Kickstarter project seeking funding. The device was priced at $29 for early birds, but right now it looks like the $34 option is only available, so if you’d like to get in on the funding, head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.

Windows 9 Reportedly Seeded To Microsoft’s Partners For Testing

microsoft logoIs Microsoft working on Windows 9? Well according to recent evidence, it would definitely seem to suggest that is indeed the case, which is why when we heard the rumors that Microsoft could have sent their partners Windows 9 ahead of its official announcement, it did not seem like such a stretch of the imagination.

According to a recent report from Neowin, they have learnt that Microsoft could have seeded Windows 9 to their partners for testing. In fact this would seem to be in line with earlier reports that suggests that Microsoft could be officially taking the wraps off Windows 9 on the 30th of September, which is why seeding the OS to their partners now would make sense.

We can only imagine that many users out there are probably excited to see what Microsoft could bring to the table in Windows 9. While Windows 8 was an interesting experiment to try and create a unified platform for mobile devices like tablets and desktop computers, it seems that the changes were a little too drastic.

Many users had petitioned Microsoft to bring back some old and classic features, like the Start Menu for example. In fact there have been OEMs who openly advertise computers running on Windows 7 instead of Windows 8. Either way we will have to wait and see what Microsoft has planned, but in the meantime are you excited for Windows 9?

Hearthstone’s Next Expansion Will Feature 100+ New Cards

hearthstone legal 640x348It wasn’t too long ago that Blizzard announced and released the Curse of Naxxramas expansion for their Hearthstone card game. The expansion was largely a single-player experience where players would not have to compete against other players in order to complete the expansion and access the new cards.

All of that is expected to change in the next expansion, which according to the folks at Joystiq is already being worked on. With the next expansion, Blizzard is expected to introduce over 100 new cards to the game, which is more than triple that of the Curse of Naxxramas which introduced about 30 new cards.

The new cards will also be delivered in a new type of card pack, although details on that remain scarce for now. Currently players who wish to obtain new cards can get them by either farming for gold to buy card packs, or purchase them using real life money, so it will be interesting to see what this new type of card pack will entail.

Unfortunately there is no word on when the next expansion will be released, but Blizzard expects that with the new cards and the way it is delivered that it will have a much bigger impact on the game. We guess we’ll just have to wait and find out! In the meantime does the idea of 100+ new cards sound good to you?
