Haier Unveils HaierPad W81 Windows-based Tablet

haier w81 900 80 640x359When it comes to tablets, brands such as Apple and Samsung probably come to mind, so we guess you can’t be blamed if you didn’t not exactly think of Haier when it comes to tablets. That being said, it seems that the company has recently taken the wraps off a new Windows-based tablet in the form of the HaierPad W81.

As its name seems to suggest, this will be a Windows-based tablet that seems to run on Windows 8.1. However it will not be of the ARM variety. Instead it will be powered by a quad-core Intel Atom processor, so for those worried about app availability, you should be able to use the same Windows apps on your computer on the tablet.

The HaierPad W81 will also be accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It will also pack an 8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800 and will feature WiFi, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. The tablet will be priced at around $280 and is expected to make its way to Europe later this year, although no word on its US availability just yet.

Will Haier be able to succeed where others have failed? Well it’s somewhat low price point should prove to be attractive to some customers, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime is anyone considering the device for themselves?

Nokia Lumia 830 Leaked Photos Shows Off Removable Battery

WPDang Lumia 830 4The Nokia Lumia 830 is an upcoming handset from Microsoft which is expected to make its debut later this week. We’ve seen a photo of the handset not too long ago and now thanks to newly leaked photos from WPDang, additional photos of the device have surfaced, which at the same time comes with “confirmation” of some of the phone’s specs.

For starters the report seems to corroborate an earlier rumor that the phone will pack a 10MP rear-facing camera. This contradicts an earlier rumor that hinted that the Lumia 830 could feature a 20MP rear-facing camera, but then again megapixels aren’t everything and if this is truly a PureView handset, we reckon a 10MP camera should be more than capable of getting the job done.

WPDang Lumia 830 7It also suggests that the phone will feature a Xenon flash and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The photos of the device also reveal that the backplate of the Lumia 830 is removable. What this means is that there is a good chance that interchangeable backplates are one of its features, along with the addition of wireless charging.

The battery also seems to be removable so for those who like the idea of being able to swap out batteries down the road, then perhaps the Lumia 830 could be worth checking out. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will find out more shortly, so do check back with us then for the details.

Apple’s Suppliers Ramping Up Production For Thinner, Faster iPad Air 2 [Rumor]

ipad mini retina review 2 640x426We guess it hardly comes as a surprise to learn that Apple could be planning on launching new iPads later this year. After all the Cupertino company has released new iPads on an annual basis like clockwork, so why should it be any different this year, right? That being said, it seems this year’s iPad Air 2 could be even thinner and faster than its predecessor.

According to a report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors), they claim that their sources have revealed to them that Apple’s supply chain partners have begun to ramp up production for some of the components that are expected to make its way into the iPad Air 2 later this year. They go on to claim that while the overall design and size of the iPad Air 2 will remain the same, it is expected to sport a thinner profile and a faster processor.

They also go on to state that Touch ID will be making an appearance on the tablet, which seems to be in line with earlier rumors. The report claims that Apple has asked touch panel suppliers TPK and GIS to manufacture full-lamination units for the device ahead of its launch this fall.

Now some of these claims are pretty obvious – after all why would Apple release an iPad with the same specs? While we did not expect Apple to make any design changes, we guess going thinner does seem to be in line with Apple’s MO, but either way take it with a grain of salt for now but check back with us at a later date for additional details.

This robot bird of prey is designed to scare real birds

robird-1Unless you look really close, this robot peregrine falcon would almost look like the real thing from a distance, especially while flapping its wings high above the sky.
