China Mobile Accepts iPhone 6 Preorders

chinamobileThe iPhone 6 from Apple is not ready to be unveiled until this coming September 9th, but this does not mean that interest has flatlined, but on the contrary, parties such as China Mobile has begun to accept preorders for not one, but both iPhone 6 models – namely the 4.7” and the 5.5” variant. This is more or less an unofficial confirmation that there will indeed be a 5.5” iPhone 6 device that is set to roll out.

China Mobile happens to be the world’s largest carrier due to the sheer population in China, and the company has restricted preorders to its online store. Ever since the company began to accept these preorders, China Mobile managed to ring up over 33,000 reservations – sounds like a whole lot, but it isn’t if you were to take into consideration at just how many people there are in China alone. An anonymous source who claims to be familiar with the timing of the launch touted that the upcoming iPhone 6 will be released in China some time in the middle of September.

For those who are interested in picking an iPhone 6 up, or decide to reserve a spot, it might cost somewhere in the equivalent of $810 to do so over in China – insane! It remains to be seen how Apple’s latest smartphone will sell when it goes up against the like of homegrown champions, so to speak, like Meizu and Xiaomi.

iPad Mini Might Experience Price Cut

ipad mini retina review 1 640x426When it comes to Apple products, most of the time, the device itself is priced at a premium compared to other counterparts that are in the market. The thing is, the slightly higher price point for Apple products has not deterred folks from actually picking up their products, and on the contrary, Apple has grown from strength to strength over the years. In fact, word has it that Apple will lower the price tag for its Wi-Fi-only 16GB iPad mini as an effort to go up against slower iPad sales during this quarter, which means we ought not be subjected to a $299 price point soon.

Digitimes claims that Apple has recently “cooperated” with U.S. retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon in order to reduce the price of the Wi-Fi only 16GB iPad mini. Right now, Best Buy is selling this particular tablet model for $199.99 a pop, where Amazon is carrying a new iPad mini for $230. Despite that, the official price point is still listed at $299 on the company’s website, and there does not seem to be any proof that the official Apple Store would receive a matching price cut in the near future. Would this price cut cause you to actually pick up a new iPad mini anytime soon?

Yerka Project Could Deliver “Unstealable” Bicycle

yerkaBicycles are dime a dozen, and these days, there seems to be more and more electric-powered bicycles in the market that will help you tackle those uphill bits, while letting you pedal to your heart’s content on flat ground as well as when you take a ride downhill. However, some of the more expensive bicycles out there could end up to be a target for thieves, and this is where the Yerka Project comes in, where it is touted to deliver the world’s first “unstealable” bicycle.

The Yerka bicycle will ensure that its own frame is the lock itself, letting you wrap the frame around a tree or lamp post. Despite its rather innovative locking frame, Yerka has managed to retain the style of a typical urban bike. This is the brainchild of a trio of engineering students from Chile who managed to figure out the method to make the lock an integral part of the bike. To break the lock would mean breaking the bicycle, which would not benefit the thief at all. Cutting off the nose to spite the face, so to speak – simply brilliant!

Right now, this is but a prototype, but the students do hope to be able to garner the support of the masses in order to transform this dream into a reality. Sounds like a job for a crowdfunding project, don’t you think so?
