EE tries to upstage its rivals with improved pay-as-you-go tariffs

When you’re the biggest 4G player in the UK, logic dictates that you don’t let your rivals hog the limelight for too long. EE’s well aware of this, so just a few days after Vodafone finally joined the 4G pay-as-you-go party, it’s decided to improve…

OS X Yosemite’s Pre-launch Adoption Is 33 Times Higher Than Mavericks

yosemiteadoptionratesApple’s OS X platform has more or less retained the same look over the past few years. Sure, Apple’s made some tweaks here and there, some visual changes, but it’s safe to say that OS X Yosemite could be the biggest visual overhaul to date. That and the fact that it comes with even tighter integration with iOS certainly makes it an exciting platform to look forward to.

This is why it hardly comes as a surprise to learn that according to Net Applications (via MacRumors), Yosemite’s pre-launch adoption is a whopping 33 times higher than its predecessor, Mavericks. Net Applications claims that Yosemite was installed on 3.3% of all Macs as of August.

Assuming that Yosemite will be able to maintain its current projectory, we can only imagine that its numbers will be higher than Mavericks upon its official and public release. As it stands it is currently in beta and doing pretty well, so a public release would not doubt see a huge jump in adoption as well.

Last year when Mavericks was released, it managed to nab 6-8% in adoption within its first 24 hours of release. Like we said, with Yosemite sitting at 3.3% now, we reckon that it should outperform Mavericks, although we can’t say by how much, but do check back with us then for the details. In the meantime are you looking forward to the Yosemite upgrade too?

Windows Phone Developers Spend The Most Time On Design [Survey]

fb designs 640x359When it comes to creating an app, there needs to be a good balance in terms of its design as well as the code underneath it. After all a badly designed app won’t sit well with users, and a good looking app with bad coding and a ton of bugs will probably see a lot of negative reviews thrown its way as well.

Recently the folks at Evans Data (via WMPowerUser) conducted a survey of their own to find out how much time a developer spends on design, coding, testing, and etc. on their app. It might surprise you to learn that in terms of design, Windows Phone developers actually take the cake.

They found that Windows Phone developers spend 30.2% of their time designing the app. This is followed by 21.3% from iOS developers, and 19.1% from Android developers. However in terms of time spent coding, iOS developers lead at 30.7%, although when it comes to debugging and testing their apps, Android developers spend the most time at 36.1%, with Windows Phone coming in third at 19.8%.

While it might seem like a good thing that Android developers spend a lot of time debugging and testing their app, Janel Garvin, the CEO of Evans Data suggested that it was due to fragmentation. “The other side of it is that the market has become fragmented and developers must test with numerous devices to assure quality.”

Interesting stats, but what do you guys think? Any developers out there want to weigh in on these numbers?

Opera Mini For Windows Phone Enters Into Public Beta

opera mini 640x335When it comes to mobile browsers, there are plenty that users can choose from. They can choose to use the default browsers installed on their phones, or they can go with third-party alternatives if they feel that it can get the job done better or if there are features in these browsers that they can’t live without.

The good news for Windows Phone users, who might have been a little jealous of their iOS and Android friends, is that if you were looking forward to getting your hands on Opera Mini, you will soon be able to. In fact Opera has announced that they are currently looking for beta testers to take part in the beta of the software.

For those who are interested in taking part in the beta, all you will need to do is head on over to the Opera website and leave your email address, after which you should receive instructions on how to proceed. It looks like the beta is a public beta so you should be able to get in just fine.

If you’re waiting for a more stable and final release, unfortunately Opera did not mention when the app is expected to go out of beta, but hopefully it won’t take too long. In any case if you’re a Windows Phone user looking for a new browser experience, why not take Opera Mini for a spin?
