Marshall delivers the Acton speaker

marshall-actonAction speaks louder than words, but in the case of the aptly named Acton, it will be able to go about its task in an understated manner without “shouting” out its pedigree, so to speak. The Acton is a spanking new speaker that might be small in size, but it is definitely big on performance. This is one prime example of mom’s advice coming in handy – never too judge a book by its cover, and in the case of a speaker, this would mean not to judge a speaker’s performance based on its size alone. The Acton from Marshall will arrive in either black or cream colors, and this compact active stereo speaker does come packed with some serious power within its rather stout looking frame. You will be able to deliver both style as well as sound into even the smallest of spaces, making it the crowning glory of the ultimate setup in your kitchen, bedroom, or office.

Just what makes the Acton so desirable? For instance, this particular pint-sized speaker will boast of a well-balanced audio that features a clear midrange as well as extended highs, offering it an experience which is not only articulate but pronounced as well. With the Acton, your ears will be able to enjoy powerful deep bass that seems to defy the laws of nature despite it coming in such a small form factor. It is precisely these Hi-Fi qualities that are crammed into a classically designed and compact frame which would allow the Acton to stand apart from the rest of the crowd, allowing it to be competitive even among the larger sized competitors. In addition, there will be a trio of custom control analogue knobs which enables you to fine tune it according to the exact sound that you desire.

Being a nimble and versatile workhorse, the Acton is yet another addition to the Marshall family that will deliver a vengeance, bringing along with it a long standing tradition of loud. Not only that, it also has the killer looks to go along with it, not to mention sporting an iconic script logo which remains distinctly Marshall. Those who are interested in picking up the Acton can do so this coming November 3rd where it will retail for $300 a pop.

A-Audio introduces their new Icon wireless over-ear headphones

A-Audio-IconWhen it comes to the world of headphones, there are many different models in which one is able to choose from – and that would include wired and wireless varieties, not to mention the kinds that you wear over-the-ear, as well as in-ear headphones. Some people are more comfortable with having the pair of headphones hanging over their ears, while others prefer it to remain in-ear, so that they get to maximize the amount of audio feedback. A-Audio has stepped up to the plate recently by introducing their spanking new Icon Wireless Over-Ear Headphones, which also happens to be the latest addition to their range of premium headphones.

Specially engineered in order to bring about the qualities of optimal sound quality, aesthetics and comfort, the Icon has been touted by A-Audio to be the ultimate everyday wireless headphone which would enable one to enjoy studio quality sound with a cable – or without, depending on your circumstances and preferences. The A-Audio Icon happens to be the first wireless headphone of its kind that offers up Three-Stage Listening Technology, where it enables listeners to make a choice between Base Enhancer, Active Noise Cancellation and Audio modes. It is pretty much in the same vein as that of how a luxury sports car shifts gears at different speeds, if one were to require some sort of comparison.

In a nutshell, Three-Stage Listening Technology would place one in the driver’s seat so that one is able to select the sound which will best suit you as well as the kind of music that you listen to at the moment. In fact, the A-Audio Icon will continue on the past success of the flagship, award-winning Legacy headphones, where it boasts of the freedom of Bluetooth 4.0 technology, enabling it to hook up sans wires to mobile devices along with A-Audio’s signature aesthetic which will transform functional elements into distinctive design features. It is inspired by classic auto and luxury timepiece craftsmanship, where the Icon will incorporate supple leather alongside diamond-quilted stitching into the headphone band, while your ears continue to be pampered via premium anti-vibration octagonal aluminum bezels that are located on each ear cup. There are also integrated controls on the ear cup so that your music can be controlled right from your fingertips.

It is ideal for travel purposes, thanks to its foldable design and custom tailored carrying case. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers up to a dozen hours of uninterrupted wireless sound, and there is also a 4-foot tangle-free audio cable with 24k gold plated contact just in case you need to maximize battery life. Expect to fork out $379 for the Icon Wireless Over-Ear Headphones as it becomes available from next month onward.

Bicycle with Ice Wheels: Deinventing the Wheel

Clothing company Uniqlo asked the mad engineer Colin Furze to go to a cold place while wearing its thermal shirt. To keep himself busy – and because he’s crazy – in the barren plains, Colin decided to bring a bicycle along. But not just any bicycle – he made one with wheels made of ice.

So what’s a bike with ice wheels like? It’s pretty much what you’d expect:

The far more interesting aspect of this silly project is how Colin made the wheels. Because of time constraints he decided not to make the wheels 100% ice, because those would take too long to freeze. So he made a mold that includes the rims, as well as some wires for reinforcement.

Then he made a lathe for the wheels to smooth them out. He then modified a BMX bike to accommodate the 16″ ice wheels.

Clearly his next project should be to emulate Ghost Rider’s motorcycle. I bet he can do that. Whether or not he’d live to talk about it is another matter altogether.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Ditches Internet Tax Law

viktor orban 640x438About a week ago, we reported that the Hungarian government was thinking about taxing the internet. This meant that internet service providers would be taxed depending on how much data was being transferred, and safe to say no one was happy about it to the point where there were protests regarding the proposal.

Well thankfully such a law did not come into effect. It has been reported that the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban decided to ditch the plan in the face of such huge opposition from his people. Orban confirmed that they would not be going ahead with the proposal on a radio show early Friday morning.

Instead, he has decided to hold a nationwide public consultation regarding internet regulation at the start of next year. Speaking on Radio Kossuth, “This tax in its current form cannot be introduced because the government wanted to extend a telecommunications tax, but the people see an internet tax. If the people not only dislike something but also consider it unreasonable then it should not be done.”

He also added, “We really should see somehow where the huge profits generated online go, and whether there is a way to keep some of it in Hungary.” Well hopefully whatever it is that the Hungarian government figures out, that it will be accepted by its people.

Google Inbox Updated With “Highlights” Feature

highlights inboxWhen we receive a new email, it will tell us who it’s from, the subject, and maybe a little snippet. This is great for regular conversations between you and your friends, family, or co-workers, but what if it is regarding a hotel booking or a flight that you are scheduled to take? Well Google’s Inbox has recently been updated and with the update, it will allow developers to make their emails stand out from the crowd.

This new feature is called Highlights and it basically shows the user at a glance the information that the sender believes is important. For example if you have an upcoming flight, airline companies who send out the email will be able to make it so that the “Check in” action is available at a glance, as well as the live flight status information.

This saves users from having to open the whole email to scan for flight times or look for links on the internet if they wish to check-in online. This can also be applied to hotel reservations, purchases, tickets that you have bought for events, and so on. Sounds pretty good, right? For end users, hopefully more developers will take advantage of this feature for the future.

Google’s Inbox was launched last week and as it stands, it is only open to those who have received an invite. Users can request for invites by emailing inbox@google.com, or alternatively they can get a friend who has already been invited to send them an invite. Google is also sending out invites on a more frequent basis now, so hopefully you should get yours soon!

Sony Has Shipped 3.3 Million PlayStation 4 Units In The Past 3 Months

ps4 hrdware large18 640x334It is no secret that Sony’s PlayStation 4 is doing well for itself. In fact earlier this year about half a year since its release, the Sony had managed to sell over 7 million PlayStation 4 units, so what about recently? Well according to Sony’s recent financials, it has been revealed that the company had managed to ship 3.3 million PlayStation 4 units from July to September.

Sony also noted that they had managed to ship 800,000 PlayStation 3 units during that same time period, although given that amount, it is safe to say that demand for the PlayStation 3 console is starting to dwindle, despite its larger library of games and more affordable price tag, but we suppose all good things must come to an end, right?

That being said, shipping numbers don’t necessarily translate into sales. If anything they are more of a reflection of the demand for a particular product, so with 3.3 million PlayStation 4 units shipped, it certainly looks like there is a sizable demand for Sony’s latest console. Now as far as Sony’s other gaming products are concerned, about 700,000 PS Vitas, PSPs, and PlayStation TV units were shipped.

However Sony did not break those down so it is unclear as to how many units of each product was shipped. In total, Sony’s Game and Network services made 309.5 billion yen in revenue and also made a tidy profit of 21.8 billion yen, an increase over last year’s 4.2 billion yen operating loss.

Nintendo President Explains Delay Of New 3DS For US And European Markets

nintendo new 3ds 2014 11 640x413A few months ago, Nintendo announced new Nintendo 3DS & 3DS XL handheld consoles. With the slightly upgraded specs and with the addition of a new control, it certainly looks like Nintendo has made the console a little more desirable, especially for those who were still on the fence regarding the console.

That being said if you were thinking about getting your hands on it, you will be disappointed to learn that Nintendo has delayed the release of the new consoles for both the US and European markets. The console was released in Japan this month and according to Nintendo, they have since managed to sell 234,000 units so far.

However it seems that the delay of the console for the US and European markets is due to the lack of popularity. According to Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata, “To the contrary, neither of the cumulative sales figures of Nintendo 3DS in the U.S. nor Europe is more than that in Japan. Based on these observations, some might wonder if, apart from the domestic market, the sales of Nintendo 3DS will really be able to gain momentum in the overseas markets.”

Interestingly enough it seems that Nintendo has chosen to launch the new 3DS in Australia later this year, so we guess if you absolutely have to have it and you want an English version of the console, perhaps getting one imported from Australia should do the trick. That or you could always wait until next year.

Olympus Stylus 1s Camera Announced For Japan

stylus1s 350x271 640x480Around this time last year, Olympus announced the Stylus 1 camera, which is why we can’t say we’re too surprised to learn that Olympus has refreshed the camera by announcing the Olympus Stylus 1s. Unfortunately for photographers, it looks like the Stylus 1s will be exclusive to the Japanese market for now, but perhaps Olympus could bring it to international markets in the future, who knows?

That being said, the Stylus 1s is not a huge upgrade over its predecessor from last year. In fact most of its specs will be kept the same, which means that users can look forward to a 12MP CMOS sensor, a 28-300mm f/2.8 lens, 7fps continuous shooting mode, and an ISO range of 100-12800. Its 3-inch 1.04 million dot touchscreen display will also remain part of the camera.

olympus3 640x480So what’s new then? Well for starters the Stylus 1s will feature a new step-zoom function. It will also sport a smaller auto focus target, focus peaking, and interval shooting functionality. It will also come with a BLS-50 battery which is apparently good for 450 shots, at least that’s according to the CIPA standards.

olympus4 640x480Like we said it doesn’t seem to be a particularly huge upgrade, but if the new features are to your liking, the Olympus Stylus 1s will be going on sale in Japan starting next month, although pricing of the camera has yet to be confirmed.
