Movie theaters ban Google Glass and other camera-toting wearables

Nintendo Could Work On Sleep Measuring Device

nintendo logoI clearly remember how Nintendo received more than their fair share of raised eyebrows when they first revealed the Nintendo Wii with its Wiimote and nunchuk – some folks felt that those were not exactly the prime example of a regular video game controller, but somehow or rather, Nintendo managed to prove their doubters wrong, and did go on to make a killing with the Nintendo Wii – in spite of its “wiggle controls” as some would say. Well, one thing is for sure – Nintendo is not a company that is afraid to try out new things, and here we are with word that Nintendo could eventually deliver a new device that is capable of measuring a user’s fatigue level as well as map their sleep.

According to Nintendo Chief Executive Satoru Iwata, such a device would mark the very first time that the Japanese company has rolled out something from their healthcare division. This upcoming device is said to be developed in conjunction with U.S. firm ResMed Inc., where the latter currently develops products that intend to help to treat sleep disorders. Just when will it be released? Well, it is touted to arrive some time in the financial year ending March 2016. That is still a long time more to go, relatively speaking, and we do hope that Nintendo will continue to experience more bumper quarters like its most recent one.

Xiaomi Could Be 3rd Biggest Smartphone Manufacturer

xiaomi note 4gWhen it comes to the number of smartphone brands that are in the market, there are the traditional heavyweights such as Nokia, Samsung, LG, Apple, BlackBerry and HTC, although you can be sure that nothing ever remains the same, with some of these companies struggling for “corporate form”, so to speak, while others continue to milk a winning formula. However, there are always upstarts in any industry, and the smartphone market is no different. Many companies from China are already starting to sell their wares – and excel while they are at it, with Xiaomi being one of them.

Xiaomi too, has its rivals like Oppo who has recently gained the mantle of having the world’s slimmest smartphone at 4.85mm of thickness, but it seems that Xiaomi, a smartphone and tablet manufacturer, might actually be the third biggest smartphone manufacturer at this point in time.

Strategy Analytics are the ones behind this assumption, citing that the China-based company right now trails only Samsung and Apple. After all, it has seen its shipments tripled in the space of just one year, which makes it now up to 18 million in the third quarter of this year alone, while doubling the amount of its smartphone share.

Official Scorers Give Madison Bumgarner Game 7 Win, Then Take It Away

Madison Bumgarner will have to settle for the longest save in World Series history rather than a Game 7 win.

Bumgarner was originally credited by the official scorers with the win after throwing five innings of shutout relief to close out San Francisco’s 3-2 victory over Kansas City on Wednesday night. After consulting with the Elias Sports Bureau, Bumgarner was credited with the save instead and reliever Jeremy Affeldt got the win for his first career Series decision. The change was announced about 50 minutes following the final out.

Affeldt was in the game when the Giants scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Under rule 10.17, the only way a pitcher does not get the win when he is in the game when the winning run scores is if he is a starter and did not go five innings or was “ineffective in a brief appearance.” Affeldt pitched 2 1-3 scoreless innings in relief of Tim Hudson and therefore earned the win.

That gave Bumgarner the save as the finishing pitcher in the victory. The previous longest save in Series history since it became an official stat in 1969 was a 3 2-3 inning stint by Steve Howe in the Game 6 clincher for the Dodgers against the Yankees in 1981. Lefty Grove would have gotten a 4 1-3 inning save in Game 2 in 1929 for the Philadelphia Athletics against the Chicago Cubs under the current rules.

Bumgarner won two games as a starter, and he joined Rawly Eastwick of the Reds in 1975 as the only pitchers with at least two wins and a save in a single World Series.

Fox News Host Catcalls Woman In Viral Video: 'Damn, Baby, You're A Piece Of Woman'

The hosts of “The Five” on Fox News have joined the debate on catcalling, and they’ve made it pretty clear that they’re not only fans of the practice, they’re also practitioners.

Earlier this week, a video showing actress Shoshana B. Roberts getting 100 catcalls as she walked through New York City for a day went viral. The point of the video was to show what women go through, and how uncomfortable this form of verbal harassment can be.

But the point was lost on “The Five” hosts.

She got 100 catcalls, let me add 101,” said cohost Bob Beckel in video posted online by Mediaite and Media Matters, among others. “Damn, baby, you’re a piece of woman.”

“Look, I’m not going to condone it, but I will tell you nothing was disrespectful there,” said co-host Eric Bolling. “There were a lot of people there saying ‘God bless,’ ‘you look fantastic,’ very complimentary. She may not have wanted it, but I find it hard to find what she called verbal harassment going on.”

However, the video shows one man getting angry after not being acknowledged by Roberts.

“Somebody’s acknowledging you for being beautiful,” he said. “You should say thank you more.”

In other instances, men walked alongside her for minutes at a time. One man walked silently while another tried repeatedly to get her to respond to his unwanted advances.

“You don’t wanna talk? Because I’m ugly?” he said. “We can’t be friends, nothing? You don’t speak?”

On “The Five,” cohost Greg Gutfield called women who oppose catcalls “classist,” saying men meet women in bars using similar lines.

“She is finding fault with men in the street saying hello to her which may in fact be their only way of contacting women,” Gutfield said. “It’s their bar, and she’s walking through it.”

“If these guys were in a bar or a supermarket, she probably wouldn’t feel the same way,” he added.

Some of the women on Fox News made headlines over the summer when they also suggested that catcalls were complimentary.

Last month, both Bolling and Gutfield came under fire after cracking sexist jokes about a female fighter pilot leading the assault on ISIS. Bolling later apologized.

College Student Who's Never Played Basketball Sinks 4 Great Shots In A Row, Wins $10,000

He shoots, he scores — and scores, and scores and scores!

On Monday, Gustavo Angel Tamayo, a 23-year-old student at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., wowed the crowd gathered in the school’s gymnasium when he scored a lay-up, a free throw, a 3-pointer and a half-court shot in quick succession to win $10,000 in tuition money. He had to score all four shots in under 30 seconds to win the prize.

four-shots

Tamayo told NBC News this week that he’d “never played basketball in [his] life.” And, Tamayo added, he had scored the winning shots with a broken finger, which he’d shattered while playing soccer.

“I’m not sure there’s a tougher contest,” Don Rekoske, basketball coach at Bryan College, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press of Tamayo’s impressive four-shot feat. “He had to go four for four, and you have to be hurried to make it within 30 seconds. It’s a very tough contest to win, but when you win, you get paid for it. He won $10,000; some will probably go toward his school bill and some in his pocket.”

Tamayo, a college senior who grew up in England, told NBC News that his parents were thrilled when he told them about his big win.

“My mom started crying, Dad was overwhelmed,” Tamayo said. “Right now it’s a great blessing.”

iPhone 6 Plus Has High Resale Value

iphone 6 plus shipping 640x429Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus, despite the #bendgate issue, continues to do very well as this marks the first time that Cupertino has taken the step to enter into phablet territory. After all, bigger is better when it comes to displays, don’t you think so? Apart from that, it comes with a 5.5” display that is sure to please the masses – at least for those who would want a large screen iPhone after waiting all this while. As Apple continues to find it difficult to keep up with the demand for the iPhone 6 Plus, this has led to a high resale value for the device on websites such as eBay and Taobao. Piper Jaffrey analyst Gene Munster alongside his team has kept tabs on the last 50 auctions for each iPhone 6 Plus sold to get a better grasp of the situation.

Munster saw that 42 days after launch, the Apple iPhone 6 Plus was being purchased at approximately 124% of the smartphone’s retail price on average, now how about that? This is markedly higher compared to the resale price for the Apple iPhone 5s at a similar time juncture in the previous year. As for the iPhone 6 that has not been affected by supply concerns so far, it is sold at 94% of its retail price.

Motorola Droid Turbo Could Be The Moto Maxx In Brazil

droid turbo moto maxxMotorola has certainly done its part to work on smartphones that have longer lasting battery life, and more often than not, these tend to come with the suffix “Maxx” in the product name. However, their latest device, the Motorola Droid Turbo, does boast of exceptional battery life and performance, clearly making this a prime candidate for being one of the best smartphones from Motorola. Since the Motorola Droid Turbo happens to be an exclusive device on Verizon Wireless, you will be unable to pick this up from other US carriers. As for the rest of the world, the global variant of this particular smartphone looks set to be known as the Motorola Moto Maxx – at least in Brazil.

A website known as Tecnoblog has received an invitation to a Motorola event which is set to happen later this November 5th. There has been no confirmation on what will be unveiled during the event, but through the invitation itself, one is able to check out the rear end of a Motorola Droid Turbo alongside one of its LED flashes. In other words, the invitation itself will make use of an image that is clearly placed on Motorola’s US website already.

Moto Maxx is a viable option actually, especially when one takes into consideration how Motorola’s application for a trademark on this name was approved earlier this year. A rose by any other name, would smell just as sweet – and in this case, the name might be different, but you will still be able to find a 5.2″ display alongside 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution, a 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, a 20.7MP camera at the back, 3GB RAM, 32GB or 6GB of internal memory, and a 3,900 mAh battery.
