Google Fiber Pricing For Austin Revealed

Google has just let the world in on its residential pricing plans in Austin, Texas, where they intend to roll out Gigabit Internet next month. The asking price? Google has set a $70 price tag each month, where local users would then be able to enjoy 100 times faster Web speeds, and theoretically speaking, up to 1,000 Mbps upload and download speeds, in addition to 1TB of Google cloud storage. Not only that, there will be a waiver for the $300 construction fee with a one-year commitment.

If you happen to be on the lookout for the entire Google Fiber experience, there will be a Gigabit-plus-TV service that will cost you $130 for the entire month. Subscribers will be able to enjoy similar perks that have already been mentioned, although there will be another 150-plus channels more and the ability to record up to eight shows – simultaneously, now how about that? This would place it close to be on par with that of Kansas City, which is the first region to enjoy Google’s gigabit service. Residents there would fork out 120 for the Internet-and-TV package in that part of the country. If you are living in Austin, are you looking forward to some Google Fiber goodness in time for Christmas?

Blizzard Shows Off Updated Blood Elf World Of Warcraft Models

female belf 640x412Whenever a new race is introduced to the game, Blizzard has tried to make it look better than the current models in terms of its texture, but with Warlords of Draenor, Blizzard introduced some major updates in a bid to make all of their class models look more modern. So far all the classes have been given the updated treatment, save for the Blood Elves.

Well the good news is that Blizzard has not forgotten the Blood Elves and in a recent blog post, revealed the new models that they are hoping to introduce into the game in the near future. As expected these changes are in line with what Blizzard has done with the previous models which is to make the models look less “blocky” by smoothing out some areas and adding some extra details here and there.

According to senior artist Dusty Nolting, “For the female specifically, something we did often was move things around in small but deliberate increments, to make sure everything was just right. It’s the delicate details like her nose shape or fingertips that represent the most challenging parts of upgrading the female.”

male belf 640x412As for the male Blood Elf model, “The male Blood Elf already has a lot of character with his easily recognizable pose and stylish hair. Our update just gives us a chance to define and focus on that. His anatomy, facial features, and hair will all get an update while still maintaining his iconic look, bringing him to the level of the other new character models.”

As for when we can expect to see these introduced in-game, Blizzard has no ETA to provide at the moment, but they seem to be pretty pleased with their progress so far so hopefully gamers won’t have to wait too long to see these changes. In the meantime anyone pleased with what they’re seeing?

‘Stroke Robot’ Could Help Improve Stroke Patient Treatment

strokeIt is said that each year will see 800,000 Americans admitted to a hospital because of stroke, and speed is of the essence here since each minute that passes by would result in additional brain function that will be lost. With approximately 1,500 stroke experts throughout the US, this means they cannot be everywhere to help at the same time, which is why robotics would come in handy. Dr. Victor Zach, Director of Stroke and Neurocritical care at John C. Lincoln, need not be physically at the bedside for a stroke exam, but rather, will be there virtually thanks to a robot.

Dr. Zach shared, “This is a cutting edge, In Touch Help, tele-robot that we basically can use to immediately bring a stroke doctor into the room within minutes of a stroke alert activation.”

He further explained, “To have a stroke doctor available in every Emergency Department is just physically impossible. So we are all over and scattered. So if a patient is brought into a center and they don’t have a stroke doctor, it becomes a problem.“

Such a robot will allow an on-call doctor to be bedside in just a matter of moments regardless of where they are physically at the moment, although the doctor will need to be within range of a decent Internet connection, and carrying a Wi-Fi hotspot would make sense.

Mikme Is A Small Wireless Microphone For Musicians On The Go

When it comes to home or mobile recording, there are plenty of options available to musicians. Heck, worst comes to worst they can always rely on the default microphone found on their phones or tablets. Well if you’d rather have better quality music recordings, then perhaps the Mikme Kickstarter project might be worth taking a look at.

Mikme is a microphone that is pretty small and wireless and pairs with your mobile device via Bluetooth and works with an accompanying app. All users have to do is press a button and it starts recording, all the while transferring the audio to your mobile device wirelessly. Users will be able to record as many as 8 tracks per song and according to its creators, this will be studio-grade quality recordings.

The device also comes with its own built-in memory of 8GB so users can record as much as they wish without worrying that it could end up eating up all the memory on their phones. If you’d rather not transfer the audio to your mobile device, Mikme also has USB connectivity to allow users to transfer the recordings onto a computer.

For musicians on the go who want something to record their musings and maintaining good quality audio, it certainly seems like Mikme is able to deliver that, at least in theory. If you’d like to learn more check out the video above or head on over to its Kickstarter page to pledge your support.
