Square’s Apple Pay Support Registers Arriving In 2015

Square POS 130220 640x367There are several different payment methods available at the moment, such as Square which many thought would be competing against Apple Pay. However as you might recall, Square decided to embrace Apple Pay and announced that they were planning on building registers to support Apple’s mobile payments solution.

Well according to Square’s founder Jack Dorsey, it has been announced that Square’s registers that will support Apple Pay are expected to roll out in 2015. No specific dates were mentioned but Apple Pay customers can look forward to it come next year.

According to Dorsey who spoke in an interview with CNN, he was quoted as saying, “We’re not building a credit card. We’re not building a payment device. We’re building a [cash] register, and this register accepts all these forms of payments.” This pretty much echoes what he had said back in September when Square’s plans were first mentioned.

There had been some rumors earlier this year that Apple had planned to acquire Square for a whopping $3 billion, but if the rumors are to be believed, it seems that Square had turned down Apple’s offer. In fact Square’s rejection was supposed to be based on the fact that the company had been valued at $6 billion, and Apple’s offer of $3 billion was simply not enough.

OS X 10.10 Safari Users Complaining Of YouTube Incompatibility

os x yosemiteIt seems that whoever does the quality control over at Apple in the software department really needs to do their job better. Not only have users been plagued with buggy iOS 8 updates, it looks like OS X is no exception to the rule. In fact you might recall that it wasn’t too long ago that OS X 10.10 users were complaining of WiFi issues.

Apple had issued an update that was supposed to fix it only that it didn’t work that way for some users, and now according to reports it looks like there could be Safari-related issues as well. The reports are claiming that they are experiencing a sudden incompatibility with YouTube while trying to view it from the Safari browser.

The problems include advertisements on YouTube failing to load or play, which then prevents users from moving forward to the actual video. There have also been complaints about a discordant sound being played without any video, and in the most extreme cases, it has been known to cause Safari to crash.

These users report that when switching to an alternative browser like Chrome or Firefox, there are no issues. This was tested using developer tools to change Safari’s identification to that of a different browser and found that when this was done, YouTube on Safari worked. It has been speculated that a recent security patch issued by Apple is to blame for this.

While we’re still waiting for Apple to finally issue an update to address this issue, in the meantime anyone else having a problem with Safari on their OS X 10.10 computers as well?

Samsung Asks ITC To Block NVIDIA’s Products From The US Market

samsung logo 640x480While in the past the headlines would be about Samsung versus Apple in a patent dispute legal battle, things are changing as it now seems to focus on Samsung versus NVIDIA. You might recall that earlier this year NVIDIA filed a lawsuit against Samsung claiming patent infringements, but then Samsung sued them back claiming falsified benchmarks of NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 chipset.

The ITC was expected to get involved and look into Samsung but now it looks like the tables have turned because according to reports, Samsung themselves have filed a complaint with the US ITC and are requesting that the body block the importation of NVIDIA’s GeForce and Tegra chipsets into the US market.

Samsung is claiming that NVIDIA has not only falsified their claims about the performance of the Tegra K1 chipset, which outperformed Samsung’s Exynos chipset, but they are also claiming patent infringement. If you might recall, Samsung’s lawsuit has also extended to OEMs who have built and sold GPUs based on NVIDIA’s designs.

Of course it remains to be seen if the ITC will rule in Samsung’s favor and end up blocking NVIDIA’s products and products based on NVIDIA’s technology from being imported and sold in the US, so until then we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for more information.
