For 60 percent of the world’s population, regular internet access is about as common as flying cars. Nearly 5 billion people today lack basic internet access either because they live in remote, rural areas or due to restrictive censorship on the part of the local government.

Did you plunk down $39 for Amazon’s Fire TV Stick as soon as you heard about its promise of low-cost, full-featured streaming? If so, we have good news: as promised, Amazon has started shipping its Chromecast rival to people who ordered early….
We live in an increasingly connected society, so much so that breaking news and the latest happenings needs to be shared right there and then – anything slower than “instant” would be considered anathema. With social networks playing a really huge role in our lives, with most of us having a Twitter and Facebook account, there are various tools out there which will help aid us in broadcasting our life to the virtual world. Since many smartphones these days come with a decent camera – whether at the back or the selfie one, most of us have social network profiles that depict the exotic places of where we have been, hoping to net a few more “Likes” or comments along the way. Snapping good selfies, however, can be quite a challenge – and you might look funny with one of those “selfie sticks”. If only there was a remote control solution in the market. But there is! With the aptly named Weye Feye, this external device will be able to generate its own Wi-Fi network, allowing you to control virtually any compatible DLSR camera from your mobile device using a free app.
Weye Feye will help to do away with the range of complicated buttons and dials that can be found on many DSLRs alongside System Cameras, where images will be relayed in real time, too. Users can now check out the result of the image shot instantly, including making tiny adjustments such as changing the shutter speed, ISO, aperture or white balance without having to come into physical contact with the camera. Apart from that, Weye Feye’s powerful signal would also enable photography enthusiasts to capture, upload and share content on their social networks instantly – regardless of where they are, as long as there is a decent Internet connection in the vicinity, of course.
The Weye Feye app also comes with a Live View function that enables users to have complete control of their camera from a distance. For those who are interested, the Weye Feye can be purchased for $249.99 a pop, where a full battery ought to be able to see it last for up to 8 hours of non-stop usage.

It is always nice to have more than just a single function or purpose when it comes to machines, as that would increase the level of efficiency of a particular machine. For instance, the robotic K-MAX medium lift helicopter has shown itself to be extremely effective in Afghanistan where throughout 33 months of war, the Marines managed to complete close to 2,000 cargo and supply sorties using a mere couple of the unmanned birds.
It seems that the K-MAX medium lift helicopter has a spanking new mission, which would be to fight fires. November 5th sw Kaman and Lockheed Martin test out a robotic version of this helicopter at an airfield in upstate New York. A tiny Indago quadrotor drone made full use of its electro-optical/infrared sensors in order to pick out a rapacious fire that burned in a canister, before relaying such information to a human operator who would be on the ground.
The operator’s job is to send out an unmanned K-MAX helicopter so that it can make short work of the fire. Apart from a pre-programmed flight path, there is virtually no other forms of guidance for the K-MAX, as it carries 3,000 gallons of water to extinguish the flames in a single hour.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Two bodies believed to belong to Miss Honduras 2014 and her sister have been found buried near the spa where they disappeared six days ago, the Honduras National Police director said Wednesday.
Authorities are awaiting confirmation from forensic officials that the bodies are Maria Jose Alvarado, 19, and her sister, Sofia, 23, said Gen. Ramon Sabillon. Sabillon said Sofia’s boyfriend, Plutarco Ruiz, confessed and led authorities to the bodies buried in river bank in a mountainous in Santa Barbara, about 240 miles (400 kilometers) west of Tegucigalpa.
They were found near La Aguagua spa, where they had gone Thursday to celebrate Ruiz’s birthday.
Both women, who grew up in the area, were shot to death and appeared to have been killed the night they disappeared, Sabillon said.
An accomplice, Aris Maldonado, was also being held. The two said they buried the bodies near the river so they would decompose quickly, according to Sabillon.
He said Ruiz allegedly shot his girlfriend, Sofia, because she was dancing with another man. After a fierce argument, he pulled out a pistol and fired at Sofia first, then Miss Honduras as she tried to flee.
Alvarado was crowned Miss Honduras in April and was expected to compete in the Miss World Pageant in London next month. She was supposed to have left for London this week. A pageant representative said Honduras would not compete in the contest this year, given the tragedy.
Honduras, overrun with streets gangs and drug-trafficking, has the highest murder rate in the world for a country not in war, with an estimated 90 to 95 killings per 100,000 people. It is one of Latin America’s poorest countries and earlier this year was the main source of a surge in unaccompanied minors migrating to the United States, many to escape the violence.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A judge has issued the first same-sex marriage licenses in South Carolina, ahead of a planned move by the state’s attorney general to block such unions.
Early Wednesday, the office of Probate Judge Irvin Condon in Charleston said that he had issued six licenses to same-sex couples.
The judge’s attorney, John Nichols, says the way was cleared for issuing the licenses by a decision in a case in Columbia. On Tuesday, the judge in that case ruled that South Carolina must recognize the marriage of a same-sex couple performed in Washington, D.C.
Last month, the South Carolina Supreme Court told probate judges not to issue any marriage licenses until there was a decision in that case. Nichols says Tuesday’s ruling was that decision, so Condon is issuing licenses.
COPD: The Breath Thief
Posted in: Today's ChiliDid you know the third leading cause of death in the U.S. is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)? If this surprises you, then that makes November – National COPD Awareness Month – more important than ever.
Understanding COPD
COPD is a lung disease that, over time, makes it hard to breathe and can eventually lead to death. You may have heard of chronic bronchitis or emphysema, but since many people have features of both conditions, health professionals prefer to call the disease COPD. More than 11 million American adults have been diagnosed with COPD, and it’s estimated that just as many may be suffering from the disease, but have not yet been diagnosed or treated. COPD accounts for more than 134,000 deaths each year in the U.S. – the third leading cause of death. Tragically, the number of people dying from COPD is growing.
The primary cause of COPD is smoking, but it can be caused by other factors, including exposure to air pollution. And for a small number of people, COPD is caused by a genetic condition called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. At this time there is no cure for COPD, but the good news is that COPD is mostly preventable and the symptoms are treatable. COPD is often not found until the disease is very advanced because people do not know the early warning signs. However, COPD can be found early and there is much that can be done to treat the symptoms and help manage the disease.
Once Diagnosed:
- If you’re a smoker – quit now. Stopping smoking has a more positive impact on the disease than any other type of treatment.
- Take any medicine you’re prescribed exactly as instructed. If you are having problems, talk with your health care provider about possible solutions.
- Get your yearly influenza vaccine and discuss the pneumonia vaccine with your physician
- Get active! Keep as physically fit as possible and discuss pulmonary rehabilitation with your physician. Pulmonary rehabilitation can help you rebuild strength and reduce shortness of breath.
- Educate yourself. The Lung Association has a wealth of information and resources to help you better understand your lungs and COPD.
- Get Support. Controlling COPD is easier as a team effort. Ask for and get support from those who love you. The American Lung Association offers a number of COPD support resources, including our Better Breathers Clubs and the online support community Lung Connection. And mobilize your local support system using My Fighting for Air Community, a free caregiving coordination program for help with chores or transportation, which can help ease your stress.
COPD may be a major and growing health threat, but it can be prevented and the symptoms treated. If you want more information about COPD, check out our web resources or call the American Lung Association Lung HelpLine (1-800-LUNGUSA).
Get Involved
Join with the American Lung Association to urge the U.S Food and Drug Administration to make finding better treatments and cures for COPD a priority. The FDA has proposed a list of priority conditions. Because of the enormous burden of COPD, it clearly should be on the top of the FDA’s priority list for action.
