Savioke’s SaviOne Is A Hotel Delivery Robot

Savioke OneWhen it comes to robots helping out mankind in the hospitality department, we have seen the likes of Botlr the robotic bellhop slightly more than a couple of months ago, and this time around, it would be the SaviOne service robot from Savioke. Savioke is a Silicon Valley startup that hopes to see more of their SaviOne robots to make their way through various hotels in the Aloft hotel’s chain, not to mention in other hotels.

As we mentioned in the first paragraph, service robots are not exactly the newest thing in town, since they have also served in the healthcare industry as well. However, hotels happen to be a potentially booming market , and it might lead to robot companies springing up like mushrooms as they attempt to meet the market’s growing needs. Other service-based businesses being targeted by the likes of Savioke include restaurants and elder care facilities.

The SaviOne might be a distant cousin of Star War’s fictional R2-D2, where it is smart enough to navigate through hotels, and is also able to operate the elevator. If you are a hotel staffer, commanding the SaviOne is a snap – just key in a room number and as the SaviOne arrives at the intended room, it will phone the guest. Right on top of the robot would be a small hatch, where guests can retrieve the towel or toothbrush ordered.

HP Stream 11 Being Promoted By Microsoft

While the HP Stream 11 went on sale at the end of last month, this does not mean that this little notebook that could does not deserve a little bit of advertising on its part, or promotion. After all, the overall cost of picking up a Windows-powered device in recent times has dropped, where one can spend a Benjamin to pick up a Windows 8.1 tablet while receiving a fair amount of change in return, the HP Stream 11 too, will be able to deliver a decent mobile computing experience without breaking the bank at just $199 a pop.

The HP Stream 11 is currently being promoted by Microsoft, where it is accompanied by a one-year Office 365 Personal subscription, and it will now feature unlimited OneDrive online storage. Don’t worry too much about the ad that points to just 1TB of online storage, since that is contradictory to Microsoft’s recent announcement.

Just to refresh our memories, the HP Stream 11 will be powered by a dual-core Intel Celeron N2840 processor, sport an 11.6” display with HD resolution, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory, an HDMI port, and up to 8 hours of battery life. Any takers so far with Microsoft’s latest promotional push for the HP Stream 11 this coming holiday season?

Facebook Intends To Work With Avanti To Deliver Free Internet In Africa

facebook logoWithout the Internet, Facebook would be pretty much limited to just local networks – which more or less defeats the entire purpose of such a social network. Having said that, Facebook has had attempts in the past to deliver Internet to various places, including high schools. Now, we have received word that Facebook intends to sign a deal with satellite company Avanti, where this agreement will allegedly deliver free Internet access across Africa – or at the very least, to the best of their ability.

This does not come across as a surprise since Facebook also happens to be a founding member of the Internet.org initiative. It is then more or less a given that this particular partnership with Avanti would happen through such an initiative that eventually rests on the hope of delivering the Internet to the two thirds of the world’s population who do not yet have access to it.

Since Avanti is a satellite operator, it does happen to operate its very own space gear that will eventually be used to deliver broadband connectivity to the continent of Africa, especially deep into the inner regions. Right now, Avanti has just a couple of satellites, although it does have plans to send up another two in three years’ time.

Alleged Meizu MX4 Pro Processor Spotted On GFXBench

mx4 pro gfxbIt has been said that the Meizu MX4 Pro could very well be released officially in a couple of days’ time – that is, on November 19th itself. This rumored mid-week release would be an interesting one, as we are curious to see whether the recent leaked photos of the alleged Meizu MX4 Pro is actually the real deal or not. Apparently, there is more than meets the eye where the Meizu MX4 Pro is concerned, as a purported GFXBench performance testing suite result has pointed to an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor, which would be the very same chip that is found inside the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

Other rumored hardware specifications of the Meizu MX4 Pro point to a more generous 5.5” display that boasts of QHD resolution (1536 x 2560 pixels or 543 ppi), and it will also be accompanied by the likes of a fingerprint scanner that has been embedded within a new physical home button as well as 3GB RAM. Apart from that, it does look as though other seemingly confirmed hardware specifications include a 20.7-megapixel Sony rear sensor with 4K UHD video capture capability, a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, and 16GB of internal memory. Are you as excited as many others out there concerning the release of this upcoming flagship?
